Chapter 35 - Chapter 34: The First Challenge – The Den of the Sand Gods

In the endless desert, where golden sands stretched as far as the eye could see and skeletal remains hinted at a horrifying history, a mysterious voice echoed from above, announcing the start of the first challenge:

"The first challenge: Escape the Pyramid of the Sand Gods."

The trio exchanged uneasy glances, uncertain of what the voice truly meant. There was no sign of a pyramid in the vast expanse—just an endless desert filled with unseen dangers.

"I don't see any pyramid here. Is this another trick?" Isaac grumbled in frustration.

Before anyone could respond, the ground beneath their feet began to tremble violently, as if something massive was stirring below. Suddenly, the earth split open, and colossal black scorpions emerged, their exoskeletons reinforced with glowing blue technological armor.

"They're not ordinary creatures..." Rosemary muttered, stepping back cautiously.

"They're war beasts," Morpheus stated calmly, his eyes fixed on the scorpions as they moved with menacing precision, their metallic shells gleaming in the sunlight.

"Whatever they are, we need to take them down and find that cursed pyramid!" Isaac yelled, summoning a massive inferno that engulfed two of the scorpions, tearing through their armor.

But more scorpions kept appearing, quickly surrounding them.

The Desert Chase

After a fierce battle, the group realized they couldn't defeat the endless swarm.

"We can't kill them all! We have to run!" Rosemary shouted as her vines grew desperately to block the advancing creatures.

"Run where?!" Isaac barked, unleashing another wave of flames to clear a path.

"Anywhere away from these things!" Morpheus commanded, using his shadows to carve an escape route through the sands.

The trio began running, the scorching desert sand burning their feet as they fled. They crossed towering dunes and passed countless skeletal remains, their breath ragged and their bodies drenched in sweat.

After nearly ten miles of relentless sprinting, they finally stopped to catch their breath.

"Is it over?" Isaac panted, glancing behind them to ensure the scorpions weren't in pursuit.

But Rosemary wasn't at ease. Her wide eyes were fixed on the sand, as if sensing something invisible to the others.

The Revelation

Closing her eyes briefly, Rosemary suddenly reopened them with a glowing golden light. Her hair began to shimmer like an angel's halo, and her voice trembled with fear:

"I know where the pyramid is... We're inside it."

Morpheus and Isaac froze, staring at her in disbelief.

"What do you mean we're inside the pyramid?" Morpheus asked, his gaze darting between Rosemary and the endless desert around them.

"This desert, everything we're seeing... it's all within the Pyramid of the Sand Gods. It's not just a structure—it's an entire dimension hidden inside."

A heavy silence fell over them before she added, her voice quivering:

"We need to get out. Now."

But before they could act, the ground shook with an intensity far greater than before. This time, it felt like an earthquake.

"What now?!" Isaac shouted, his flames ready to strike.

The Colossal Beast

The sands began to flow like waterfalls as the earth itself seemed to breathe. Then, from beneath the dunes, an enormous creature emerged—a wormlike monstrosity, the size of a skyscraper. Its golden, scaled skin glistened under the sun, and its circular, razor-sharp mouth spun like a deadly vortex. It was a creature of legend, its sheer size dwarfing everything around it.

"Oh my god..." Rosemary whispered, paralyzed by its horrifying presence.

"What is that thing?!" Isaac yelled, struggling to maintain his balance as the tremors grew stronger.

"It's the guardian of the pyramid," Morpheus said coldly, his tone laced with resignation.

The worm let out a deafening roar, a sound so powerful it made the sands tremble even more violently. It began moving toward them with an alarming speed that belied its massive size.

"RUN! NOW!" Rosemary screamed, her vines lashing out to slow the creature's advance.

The three sprinted with all their strength, knowing the beast was far too powerful to confront. Every step was a battle against exhaustion, and every moment was a desperate fight for survival.

The first challenge had revealed itself—and it was far more terrifying than they had ever imagined.

The Truth Unveiled

As the colossal worm closed in, a translucent shield suddenly materialized around them, glowing with a violet hue and forming a triangular barrier.

"What now?!" Isaac snapped, watching as the worm circled the barrier, searching for a way to penetrate it.

Rosemary, still unsettled by the discovery of their location, sensed an unfamiliar energy in the air.

"This isn't just a shield... Something else is happening," she murmured, her voice shaking.

Without warning, the shield vanished, plunging the world into complete darkness. For a brief moment, it felt as though reality itself had shattered.

Then, as though a veil had been lifted, the truth was laid bare before their eyes.

The light returned, but the desert was gone. Instead, they found themselves in a massive arena, its sheer size overwhelming. Towering stands stretched endlessly into the horizon, packed with beings unlike anything they had ever seen.

The creatures had sandy-yellow skin and slender, elongated forms. They wore desert-like garments fused with advanced technology, glowing with vibrant blue and purple lights.

The crowd roared with an otherworldly language, incomprehensible but filled with energy. Their voices combined into a deafening cacophony, like a crowd cheering for the start of a grand event.

"What is this place? And who are they?" Isaac asked, his voice trembling as he took in the alien spectacle.

Morpheus, observing the scene intently, spoke in a calm but grave tone:

"Now I understand what the voice meant when it said, 'Escape the Pyramid of the Sand Gods.'"

Rosemary and Isaac turned to him, confused and anxious.

"What do you mean?" Rosemary asked, still trying to process their surroundings.

"The skeletons we saw... this arena... and that crowd. We're not in a desert—we're in a gladiatorial arena. These beings are watching us like we're part of some twisted show. The skeletons we found earlier were the remains of those who failed this challenge."

The realization hit them like a hammer. They weren't participants in a simple test; they were prey in a deadly game designed for the amusement of these alien spectators.

"That's why the voice said 'escape.' It wasn't just talking about the scorpions or the worm. It meant escaping this arena, this fate," Morpheus concluded, his voice cold and somber.

The Crowd's Roar

At that moment, the roar of the alien crowd intensified, their chants growing louder and more frenzied. Rosemary glanced back at the colossal worm, still lurking just beyond the arena, and felt an overwhelming sense of dread.

"Whatever's coming next, we need to find a way out of here. Now!" she urged, looking at Morpheus and Isaac.

Before they could respond, a deep, commanding voice echoed above the crowd, speaking in the same incomprehensible language. It was announcing something, and though they couldn't understand the words, they could feel its weight.

"What's it saying?" Isaac asked, trying to decipher the tone.

"It doesn't matter," Morpheus replied, his eyes narrowing. "Whatever it is, it's definitely not in our favor."

They knew the first challenge had only just begun—and the true horrors of the Pyramid of the Sand Gods were yet to be revealed.
