"Ezra, what does all this mean? Take me back to the kingdom right now," Jennifer demanded, her voice firm as she tried to mask the quiver of fear beneath. Her heart pounded violently in her chest as she met Ezra's sinister gaze. Never before in her life had she been so terrified of him. He looked like a stranger. malicious and untethered.
Ezra chuckled darkly, a sound that sent chills down her spine. "Ha! Very funny, Luna. Do you honestly think I went through all this trouble just to let you go?" His voice dripped with mockery. "Think, Zara. I thought you were smarter than this."
He pulled off his cloak, tossing it aside, and Jennifer's breath hitched. His once-familiar figure transformed before her eyes. The accessories he wore fell away as one of the shadowy figures handed him a large, ominous sword. Ezra accepted it with a sigh, gripping the hilt as though reuniting with a long-lost lover.
