Power awakened
The pack's training grounds buzzed with the sounds of sparring wood swords and the clanging of weapons. The calm morning air was filled with the scent of damp earth and the occasional bark of instruction from the trainers. Maya stood on the edge of the field, stretching her muscles as she tried to get rid of the growing tension that had been building within her since the mission with Liam.
The memory of his words haunted her, making her more restless. She couldn't afford to let it weigh her down, not here. Sparring was her escape—a way to forget whatever thought going on inside her head. She needed whatever distraction she could.
Caleb stood across the field, rolling his shoulders and grinning at her. "You sure you're ready for this?" he asked, his voice teasing but confident.
Maya smiled, moving closer to him to spar.
"Don't go easy on me, Caleb. I'm not in the mood to play nice."
He chuckled, getting ready to spar with her, now putting on a serious gaze. "You know I always go all in ."
As they squared off, the other wolves began to gather around, eager to watch the two spar. Maya was known for her exceptional skill and strength , and sparring with Caleb—one of the pack's strongest warriors—always drew a crowd.
The session started light, a careful exchange of blows as they tested each other's limits. Caleb's movements were swift, his strikes calculated. Maya countered with equal agility, her instincts sharp. But as the session progressed, something unexpected occurred.
Caleb lunged, aiming for her side, and Maya deflected the blow with more force than necessary. Her frustration was released into her strikes, and each clash of their weapons echoed louder than the last.
"Easy, Maya," Caleb said, stepping back slightly, his eyes narrowing. "You're fighting like you've got something to prove."
Maya didn't respond. She tightened her grip, her breathing became heavy, her emotions stirred like a storm inside her, and she couldn't suppress the rising heat running through her veins.
Caleb lunged again, this time faster, aiming to disarm her. Maya reacted rather rash, twisting to avoid his attack and countering with a powerful strike. The moment their weapons met, a surge of energy exploded from within her.
A beaming light flashed, and a force rippled afterwards , hitting and flipping Caleb backwards like a rag doll. He hit the ground hard, sliding only to stop several feet away.
The training ground became as silent as a graveyard.
Maya stood frozen and shocked, her chest beating fast as she stared at her hands. Her weapon dropped from her hands and laying at her feet, forgotten, as a faint glow lingered around her fingers.
"Maya!" someone shouted, rushing to Caleb's side to help him up. He groaned, as he was helped up slowly, but the blood trickling from a cut on his right arm was enough to bring maya back to herself with guilt crashing over her.
"I didn't mean to—" Maya started, but she couldn't complete her statement as she noticed the way everyone was looking at her .
Afraid.
Whispers spread through the crowd like wildfire.
"What was that?"
"Did you see the glow around her?"
"She's not normal… it's the ancient bloodline."
The words cut deeper than any weapon could. Maya took a step back, feeling dejected, her eyes dashing through the murmuring wolves. The awe and fear in their expressions were like a knife piercing her chest.
Alpha Marcus marched elegantly into the clearing, with a stern expression . He looked at Caleb, then at Maya. "What happened here?"
"I don't know," Maya said, her voice trembling. "It just… happened."
Caleb, still groaning in pain, waved off the wolves helping him. "It wasn't her fault," he said, though his voice was weak, but he could still be heard.
"Something… I don't know what it was, but it wasn't intentional."
Alpha Marcus studied Maya for a long moment before speaking. "Everyone, return to your training. Now."
The crowd reluctantly dispersed, their whispers fading as they moved away.
Maya felt exposed, like a spotlight had been turned on her. She met Alpha Marcus's gaze, but instead of his reprimanding eyes, there was something else in his eyes—something she couldn't quite decipher.
"Come with me," he said, in a fairly commanding tone leaving no room for argument.

Here In Alpha Marcus's private office, Maya paced back and forth, her mind was filled with worry. Caleb getting injured by her, the wolves whispers about her, the power that had surged from her—it was all too much. She couldn't quite place it all.
"You're not in trouble," Marcus said, leaning against his desk. "But we need to talk about what happened out there."
"I don't even know what happened," Maya said, her voice rising. "One second, I was sparring, and the next… it was like something inside me just exploded ."
Alpha Marcus nodded slowly. "This isn't the first time we've seen signs of this kind potential,
Maya. But today… today was different. That energy—That light it's not something any ordinary wolf possesses."
Her heart became heavy. "You think this is because of my bloodline, don't you?
Marcus hesitated, then nodded. "Your family's history is… unique. We've always known you had the potential to be extraordinary, but this power… it's something we need to understand, nurture and control."
Maya fell into a chair, burying her face in her hands. "They're all going to look at me differently and keep their distance now aren't they?" She asked in a worrisome tone.
Marcus's expression softened. "Perhaps. But you're stronger than you think, Maya. Don't let their whispers define you. What matters is how you handle this moving forward."
---
Later that night, as Maya sat alone in her room, her mind replayed the day's events over and over. She clenched her fists, feeling the faint hum of energy beneath her skin. The power was still there, waiting patiently to unleash.
A soft knock on her door startled her. She opened it to find Caleb standing there, a bandage on his right arm and a sheepish smile on his face.
"Mind if I come in?" he asked.
She hesitated, then stepped aside.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry," he said, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"For what?"
"For pushing you too hard out there. I should've noticed something wasn't right ."
Maya shook her head. "It wasn't your fault, I should be the one apologizing for striking too hard ,I don't even know what's happening to me."He looked at her, his expression serious. "Whatever it is, you're not alone in this, Maya. We'll figure it out together."
Before she could respond, a loud howl echoed through the night, chilling her to the bone.
Maya and Caleb exchanged a tense glance.
"What's that ?" she whispered.
The howl came again, this time closer, and filled with an otherworldly menace.
Maya's wolf stirred, a low growl rumbling in her chest. Whatever it is out there, it isn't friendly.
And it is heading straight for them.
