Shadows of Deception
The moon hung high above the dense forest, casting pale silver light over the towering trees. Shadows stretched long across the forest floor as Maya moved swiftly along the narrow pathway, her every step fueled by the fire of anger burning beneath her skin. The stillness of the night did nothing to soothe her rising fury.
She had been watching Kian for a while now, sensing that something about him was off. Ever since he had arrived at the pack, there had been something in him that unsettled her … his careful choice of words, and awareness of his surroundings that went beyond simple caution. He claimed to be seeking refuge, but Maya had never been one to trust that easily.
And tonight, her instincts had been proven right.
She had seen it with her own eyes.
