Chapter 25 - 25 The forbidden Truth

The room was eerily silent, the oppressive weight of what had just transpired lingering in the air. The shadows, though gone, still clung to the edges of my vision, like remnants of a nightmare that hadn't quite released its grip on reality. I stood there, my body trembling with the aftershock of the power I had just unleashed, the raw, primal force that had been buried inside me for so long.

But there was no time to question it. Not yet.

Elias stood beside me, his gaze unwavering, his posture tense as though he, too, was trying to come to terms with what had just happened. The fear in his eyes had been replaced with something else—something darker, more knowing. His wings, though tattered and incomplete, fluttered faintly behind him, a reminder of the price he had paid for the fall from grace.

"Elias…" My voice was raw, like I had to force the words through the tightness in my throat. I wasn't sure if I was asking him for answers, or if I was simply trying to anchor myself in this whirlwind of revelation.

He turned to face me, his expression softening, though I could still see the weight of his own turmoil in the deep lines around his eyes.

"Do you remember?" I asked, stepping closer, my heartbeat echoing in my chest. "When you said you were a fallen angel... is that part of it? Is that why I have this power?"

His eyes darkened, and for the first time, I saw a flicker of vulnerability there. He looked away, his gaze drifting to the empty space around us, as though the walls themselves were closing in on him.

"You're right," he said quietly, his voice tinged with regret. "I didn't tell you everything. And I should have. You deserve the truth, especially now."

I waited, barely able to breathe, as the silence stretched between us. What had I just stepped into? What had I truly become?

"There was a time," Elias began, his voice low, "before my fall, when I was part of the celestial order. I was... something of a guardian, a protector of the balance between the realms of light and shadow. But I grew restless, disillusioned with the rigid rules of our world. I believed we were meant to do more than just watch over humanity."

My mind raced. The pieces were starting to fit together in a way I didn't want them to. I could see it now—the restless soul in Elias, the hunger for something deeper, something more.

"I sought power," he continued, his tone bitter. "Power over the realms, over the very fabric of existence. But it was a dangerous thing, and I underestimated it. I was... punished for my arrogance. Cast down, stripped of my wings, and bound to a vessel that could never be my own. The doll. My punishment was to remain in that cursed form until the day I could redeem myself."

I didn't speak. I couldn't. His words echoed in my mind, like ripples in a pond that were just beginning to touch the shore. The doll—that was the vessel he had been trapped in. The one he had used to communicate with me, to reach out, to guide me. But that wasn't the full story.

"You... Elias," I whispered, the horror and realization slowly sinking in. "The shadows, the darkness, it's all connected. It's all part of your fall, isn't it?"

He nodded, his expression unreadable, the weight of his past hanging over him like a shroud.

"I didn't just fall from grace," he said, his eyes flickering with something dangerous. "I brought darkness into the world. My actions, my rebellion... they created a rift. The shadows you're feeling—they're not just a consequence of my fall. They're part of the power I sought to control. And now, they are drawn to you, because you are the key."

"The key?" I repeated, my throat dry, as I struggled to process his words. The air felt heavier with each passing moment. "What do you mean?"

He stepped closer, his voice urgent now, almost pleading. "You, my love, are part of the very fabric of that darkness. You are a hybrid, a being born of light and shadow. A creature that exists between the realms. I didn't just find you by chance. You were chosen. You were created for this moment, to stand at the crossroads of everything I once sought to control."

My heart raced, my thoughts spiraling as his words crashed over me like a tidal wave. Everything I had thought I knew about myself, about my purpose, was crumbling before me. I was not just a person. I was a being crafted by powers far beyond what I had ever imagined. And I could feel it—the darkness stirring inside me, just beneath the surface, a part of me that I had never fully acknowledged.

"I... don't understand," I whispered, my voice shaky, my claws instinctively curling at my sides. "How can this be? How can I—we—be tied to something so dangerous?"

Elias's eyes softened, his hand reaching out to touch my face. "Because, in you, there is a power that no one can control—not even the shadows themselves. You are the balance they fear. You are the one who can tip the scales between light and dark."

His touch was like fire, a warmth that felt too real against the growing coldness of the room. But it wasn't enough to ease the storm raging inside me. Every fiber of my being was shaking, torn between the pull of the shadows and the light that had always guided me.

"I don't know if I can do this," I said, my voice barely more than a breath. "I don't know if I can carry this burden."

Elias took a deep breath, his gaze steady. "You don't have to do it alone. I'll be with you. Every step of the way."

But his words weren't enough to calm the chaos inside me. The darkness was too close now. I could feel it, clawing at the edges of my mind, just waiting for the right moment to consume me. And I had to wonder, deep down, if Elias's promises were enough to protect me from it.

The room suddenly felt even colder, and the shadows in the corners of the room stirred, as if sensing my inner turmoil.

And then I heard it—a whisper in the dark, faint but unmistakable.

"You belong to us. You were always meant to fall."

My breath caught, the words sinking into my very soul.

I turned to Elias, panic rising in my chest. "It's here. The darkness—it's coming for me, for us."

Elias's face hardened, his hands shaking at his sides. "I won't let it take you. Not again. Not after everything I've done."

But I knew. I knew that the darkness would never truly leave. It would always be with me. And whether I liked it or not, I was bound to it.

The battle had only just begun.

And I didn't know if I was strong enough to win.
