Chapter 42 - Chapter 42

As for the bodies of the zombies being knocked away, potentially causing trouble for those following behind, Park Su didn't give it much thought. If they wanted to take advantage, they had to bear some risks, didn't they?

Park Su naturally didn't choose the highway. Once on the highway, it would be hard to get off. Highways in China were often built in desolate areas with steep slopes, and if blocked, there would be no room to maneuver.

If zombies attacked from both sides, they would be trapped in a zombie-infested area, and without enough strength to break through, they would be stuck there waiting to die. He was also aware that the highways were likely congested now.

He wasn't going to tempt fate like that. He knew the location where the S base was being established, and although they had to pass through two cities to reach it, it was still safer than being stuck on a highway. If the car couldn't move, and they had people following them, would they have to reveal the spatial jade pendant and act as their bodyguard?

Xu Nuo had no reaction to Park Su's choice; it wasn't something he needed to worry about. So, he continued to rest with his eyes closed, effectively ignoring Park Su's question.

Seeing Xu Nuo enjoying his peace, Park Su just shrugged and took the national road. Scattered along the way were vehicles without owners, haphazardly strewn across the road. Fortunately, the national road was wide enough, making it rough but not impossible to navigate.

As for the scattered zombies wandering on the national road, Park Su didn't bother with them unless they decided to throw themselves at his car.

However, the people in the cars behind didn't notice the peculiarities of Park Su's vehicle. All they saw was Park Su driving without hesitation into the zombies, leaving a trail of bones, completely unconcerned about the damage to his car.

These bones made driving difficult for vehicles with lower ground clearance. Neither the widow, her child, nor the young men complained, as they were already benefiting from having their path cleared without having to sacrifice their own vehicles to hit zombies.

Meng Qiang, watching the invincible pickup ahead, then looked at his own small car, which was constantly swerving to avoid the corpses, and cursed under his breath, regretting not having the courage to go downstairs that night to get one of the pickups for himself.

What irritated him even more was that he had seen four vehicles left by those people initially, but now there was only one left. He didn't know if the others had been traded away or what. Driving this car was really frustrating with its low clearance, especially among the many corpses and abandoned vehicles.

Perhaps he shouldn't have turned his nose up at the dilapidated Hummer in Park Su's yard. It might have been old, but at least it wouldn't have made driving this difficult. Soon, they were at the back of the convoy.

Supermarkets along the national road were scarce, let alone large ones. The small supermarkets they passed by, Park Su thought about stopping at, but before he could, Xu Nuo coldly said "Keep going" from beside him. Park Su could only purse his lips, step on the gas, and continue driving without stopping.

It wasn't that he didn't have any ideas; firstly, their supplies were still sufficient, so there was no urgent need to stop for more. Secondly, the scale of these supermarkets was small, and from a quick glance, they looked chaotic, likely already raided, so the supplies wouldn't be abundant. Thirdly, he remembered how Xu Nuo could accurately assess the urgency of each household when they were out saving people, so he wondered if Xu Nuo had some special method to determine whether the supplies in those supermarkets were worth the risk of stopping.

Alright, he didn't want to admit that he now had a blind admiration for Xu Nuo, where he subconsciously believed any decision Xu Nuo made was correct.

Each time they passed a supermarket without stopping, the people in the vehicles behind would show different reactions. The middle-aged man would always consult the woman, and upon her command to follow, he would accelerate without hesitation, immediately tailing Park Su and Xu Nuo.

The widow would glance back at each supermarket they passed, knowing their supplies were scant. However, she was also aware that if she didn't keep up, she would be left behind, and she wasn't sure if there would be another strong individual she could follow to clear the way. So, although she bit her lip in envy, she didn't hesitate much before stepping on the gas to follow.

Meng Qiang's family would hesitate a bit more each time they reached a supermarket, but the desire to preserve their lives ultimately prevailed, so despite their frequent pauses, they still followed Park Su and Xu Nuo, not forgetting to curse under their breath to vent their frustration.

After passing two or three supermarkets consecutively without stopping, Park Su himself felt a bit of a stir when they reached the fourth one. This supermarket was different from the previous small ones; it was clearly a large, two-story supermarket. If Xu Nuo hadn't said, "There's a gas station not far ahead. If you don't want them to take all the advantage, why don't we refuel first?" Park Su would have immediately wanted to stop and see if there were any good supplies to gather.

Seeing the certainty in Xu Nuo's expression, Park Su couldn't help but ask, "Are you so familiar with this area because you've been here before?"

Xu Nuo gave him a half-smile, "I thought I had made it quite clear."

Park Su had meant it as a probe, but he hadn't expected such a straightforward answer from Xu Nuo. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he lowered his voice, "So, do you really have a way to see the situation around us?"

Since Xu Nuo was prepared to reveal this in front of Park Su, he didn't hide it, "It's an ability I gained after cultivating my Taoist skills to a certain level, but the range isn't that wide. At my current level, I can only see about six hundred meters around us and the interior of all buildings within two hundred meters."

"Six hundred meters!" Although Park Su had prepared himself, hearing Xu Nuo's words still left him murmuring in awe.

At the same time, he felt that he could now accept any news Xu Nuo gave him with calmness. This man was truly heaven's favorite, his abilities were like cheats; no wonder he could take on a hundred enemies alone.

Being able to see six hundred meters was already incredible, akin to having a telescope, and yet, Xu Nuo could also see inside buildings. He was the perfect scout for gathering intelligence, not to mention the Taoist techniques and the manipulation ability he had already demonstrated in front of Park Su. Which one of these abilities wouldn't be envied by others? And Xu Nuo had them all.

Moreover, these were only the abilities Park Su knew about; who knew what other strengths Xu Nuo was hiding? Park Su increasingly felt that the "big thigh" beside him was incredibly solid. No wonder Xu Nuo was so sought after later in the apocalypse, and he dared to travel alone, weaving through hordes of zombies with ease. After all, who could be certain that having someone by his side wouldn't be a liability? At least Park Su already felt like he was a burden.

Seeing the look on Park Su's face after his revelation, Xu Nuo found it amusing and patted him on the back of the head, "Stop overthinking things? Focus on driving."

The pat from Xu Nuo brought Park Su back to reality. He stopped overthinking and drove directly to the gas station Xu Nuo had mentioned.

After Park Su drove past the supermarket, Xu Nuo glanced back and, as expected, saw that only the mother and child had resisted the temptation this time.

Xu Nuo knew very well that the mother and child weren't necessarily resisting the temptation; they were just clear-headed. Having witnessed Xu Nuo's prowess and knowing Park Su's capabilities, they understood that sticking with them might keep them alive.

However, if they blindly ventured into those supermarkets, not to mention whether they could even get the supplies, even if they did, it would be surprising if a lone mother and child could hold onto those resources. They might just end up being targeted by others, so between the sesame seeds and the watermelon, they naturally chose the latter.

Given their clear-headedness, Xu Nuo didn't mind helping them out when he could, as long as it didn't become a burden. He was quite content with his current life and had no desire to complicate things between him and Park Su with others.

He hoped they would stay smart. With that thought, he closed his eyes once more, no longer paying attention to them.

The mother and child following Park Su and Xu Nuo were disappointed that they couldn't stop to gather some food to avoid going a day with just one meal. However, to save their lives, she had no other choice. But she hadn't expected that by following them and bypassing the large supermarket, they would encounter a gas station!

She had actually been worried about whether they would have enough fuel for the journey, having only filled up the day before the apocalypse.

She didn't know the destination of Park Su and Xu Nuo, just that staying there wasn't safe anymore, and she didn't know when or if the child's father would return. Staying would have meant waiting to die, but following them offered a sliver of hope for survival.
