Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

On the other hand, I also need to sell my car. Although this car has good performance and is a joy to drive, having been with me for years, it's quite reluctant to part with, but in the apocalypse, it was somewhat of a liability because its chassis is too low to handle long journeys.

I must prepare a vehicle suitable for long trips since I'll definitely need to drive to the base once I settle down. But if I sell the car, my mother would certainly find out, and I'd have to come up with a bunch of excuses to explain, so I plan to wait until after I've visited to sell it, and then rent a high-performance, high-clearance Humvee from a rental company. Unfortunately, I'm not certain if the apocalypse will happen here, so I dare not take this car to modify directly.

However, considering the current situation, this is the best option; it requires less investment, leaving me with more money for other preparations. In the end, I will definitely go to the farmers' market to buy more seeds and meat for storage, but given my wood-based abilities, even without meat, as long as I have seeds, I never went hungry in the apocalypse, though meat was a rare treat, at least I wouldn't starve.

Nevertheless, I should still stockpile some seeds, because in the early stages of the apocalypse, these seeds are hard to come by. Most people took food with them when fleeing, not thinking to bring seeds. If it weren't for the emergence of edible mutant plants later on, people might have had no vegetables at all.

So, I plan to stock up on seeds since they are less likely to attract attention compared to food, and they are safer to carry around. It would be nice if I had a space ability.

Speaking of space, Park Su remembered something else. He recalled that after the apocalypse in China, some reclusive ancient sects and Daoist priests with genuine abilities began to emerge. Some of them used their skills to craft space rings and the like. However, compared to space abilities, these items have very limited capacity, usually only three to five cubic meters, and their effectiveness diminishes over time as the ring wears out and the formations on them are damaged. Moreover, while space abilities are exclusive to the user, space rings can be accessed by others, and only those with true skills can create them, making them scarce and expensive.

Despite these drawbacks, these magical items are still in high demand in the apocalypse. Sometimes, being able to carry an extra three cubic meters of items or weapons during escape or combat can be very practical and could even save one's life. After all, there are very few people with space abilities in the apocalypse; Park Su had only encountered less than two in his six years in the apocalypse, and they were highly valued in the bases.

As a wood ability user, whether I have a space ability or not, I can't hoard too much because hoarding too much would only lead to waste. However, this doesn't stop me from seeking out these space rings that only appear in the apocalypse. If I could buy one or two within this month, at least I could store more meat and save myself from living off grass every day in the future.

It was to prevent myself from ending up eating grass like in my last life that while collecting seeds, he didn't forget to indulge in lavish meals daily, savoring these last gourmet experiences. Deep down, he still hoped the apocalypse wouldn't come, allowing him to continue being Park's illegitimate son, living without worries, indulging in a life of luxury. Having gone through the apocalypse, he must admit, he now cherished the comfort and peace of the current life, as the apocalypse was filled with schemes, the darkness of human nature, and the struggle for power, which was truly distressing.

However, it was precisely because he had been eating and drinking so much that when he went to pick up his mother, she looked at her son in surprise and said, "Darling, have you gained a lot of weight recently? I heard you sold your house and asked for a sum of money, and I was worried something had happened to you, so I transferred to your place right after landing, but it looks like I worried for nothing."

Upon hearing this, Park Su felt a bit embarrassed. He had indeed been eating quite a lot lately. He sheepishly brought his mother to his new residence, and sure enough, she frowned upon seeing where he lived. He quickly explained that he heard this area was going to be demolished and wanted to make an investment, and he also mentioned that he had given up pursuing Sun Muyang, which made living there awkward. He knew his mother wasn't particularly fond of Sun Muyang, tolerating him only because of Park Su's affection for him. Thinking about how he had always been so persistent with Sun Muyang, it was no wonder she was intrigued by his sudden change!

However, explaining that he no longer liked Sun Muyang was difficult, given how he had relentlessly pursued him, never giving up even when he knew it disappointed his mother and the other person. He had even caused quite a few disturbances with his mother over this man, presenting an image of someone who would never give up. Now saying he had broken up so suddenly, wasn't it bound to make people suspicious?

When his mother immediately asked about this, he couldn't explain how in the apocalypse, this man had directly betrayed him to death, so he just muttered, "Since he doesn't like me, why should I cling to him so desperately? Your son likes men, so others should be chasing after me, right? After all, I'm quite likable, aren't I?"

Although Mrs. Park didn't interact with her son often, having raised him, she could tell from his expression that what Park Su said wasn't the whole truth. But seeing her son's unhappy face, she could guess that the scoundrel must have done something to hurt him. Regardless of how long her son's decision to break up would last, she wholeheartedly supported it.

It would be best if this time he could make it look real, and they would never contact each other again. To prevent herself from mentioning him too much and reigniting her son's longing for that man, Mrs. Park changed the subject, directly looking at the house that had been refurbished, "It's quite nice inside, but was it really necessary to move so far out into the suburbs?"

"Isn't this to help me make up my mind? Since I graduated, I've been working from home, taking orders without ever joining a big company. If I stayed in that apartment close to his company, with my weak willpower, I might end up going after him again, so I gave myself a strong dose of medicine. Don't worry, mom, once I've completely forgotten about that man, I'll move back into the city." Although what Park Su said was entirely fabricated, it did sound plausible, especially since Mrs. Park had always hoped he would give up on Sun Muyang. Hearing him use this as an excuse, she let it go. The house was nice, and it was a rare investment opportunity for her son, plus it kept him further away from that man, so it was a win-win situation. She didn't ask further, turning instead to unpack the gifts she had brought.

But he hadn't expected his mother to bring back so many good knives from Country D, and there were even daggers. Truly, she lived up to her reputation as a shopaholic mom, not sparing any expense for him. The quality was far superior to what he currently used. Seeing these knives, he knew he had the first batch of combat gear for the apocalypse, which eased his mind considerably.

Regardless of how tight time seemed to Park Su, since his mother was here, he would definitely spend more time with her. He had already made up his mind that he would let her return to his father's side first.

At least during the early stages when he didn't have enough ability to protect her, staying there was a form of protection. He knew she wouldn't live happily in the Park household, given the complex family dynamics, but it was still better than following him and living off the land, facing zombies every day. Moreover, he wanted to use the initial chaos of the apocalypse to grow stronger, so he wouldn't have much time to look after his mother. It was better for her to stay with his father until he had the ability to take her away.
