On the 20th of January of the Year 2141 loud screams could be heard escaping into the corridor from the pale grey sterile room with large windows allowing cool fresh air to enter signposted for Maria Brandon. Nurses surrounded the brunet woman with streaks of blonde hair lying on the bed, giving words of encouragement, and preparing towels or the soon to be arrival. Next to Maria a man with dirty blonde hair, short stocky build and a full moustache was holding the woman's hand. Marias love, her husband Robert.
"Push my dear, you are almost there. Our little boy is almost here." he whispered gently into the woman ear.
With one last cry and push from the woman the baby was freed from its confines. The Nurses leapt into action, one cleaning and rapping up the newborn, the others tended to the exhausted woman still laying on the bed.
"Oh Maria my love you've done it." He lovingly spoke to her as her grip loosened on the man's arm. Finally allowing herself to relax slightly from the exhausting experience.
He turned to the nurse carrying the tightly wrapped newborn. "Please, show us our son." he asked, eager to hold his new family. The nurse holding the baby turned to the couple with a large smile upon her face as she lowered herself down to the level of the bed and carefully handed over the baby to Maria. Smiling with pure joy she turned to Robert.
"Robert our son, he's here." She squeaked out.
"Yes, my dear. He is here. All thanks to you." He spoke with a large grin spanning his face under his moustache.
He glanced down at Maria, the grin spreading across his face deepened. "What shall we name him dear?"
"I was thinking we could name him Diego. Diego 'Robert' 'Ferdinand' Brandon. After my grandfather, you, and your grandfather. What do you think Robert?"
Gently placing a kiss on her forehead, he replied. "It's perfect."
Weeks later both parents could be seen sitting inside a small but cosy stone farmhouse, with a shallow sloping slate roof and a chimney billowing smoke from the stack. Both parents worked as farmhands at a large animal farm owned by the Joestar cooperation from overseas in America. One of the largest farming, food, and animal businesses in all of America and the United Kingdom. They had been hired to work on this farm due to Maria's quirk, Minor Healing. It worked via her hands. Glowing and emitting a soothing, healing light that effected all she touched. It was incredibly useful for helping the animals on the farm if they ever got injured. The main farm animals were Thoroughbred horses. On this farm the horses from racing backgrounds came to live out the rest of their lives after retirement and to breed the next generation of racing beasts and Marias quirk helped to soothe these creatures as they became older.
The weeks old Diego lay in between his parents on a soft rug on the opposite side of the fireplace and mantle. He lay giggling as he watched his father make silly faces then hide them behind his hands. Tuffs of golden blond hair could be seen beginning to grow upon his head and his eyes were vibrant cyan with darker blue streaks in the iris' almost appearing as if they made up letters.
"Now, now Robert I must feed Diego now. He will be terribly hungry, and we don't want him to cry again." She spoke calmly. "Afterwards when he finally gets some sleep, we can watch that new program you were so excited for. The one titled 'best heroes of Japan' with All Might on the front.
"Of course, my dear. I will go and make some dinner for us in the meantime." He said with a wide grin upon his face. Then he leaned over to his wife and son and gave them both a kiss on the forehead. In response Diego began to cry at the tough bristles from his father's moustache.
"Oh… I think I'll just go now." Robert responded to his wife while turning to run away to the modest kitchen beside the living room.
"Robert!" a sharp toned voice called out after him.
5 Years later.
It was a warm early summers day in rural England. Schools had just finished for the summer holidays and children were released into the world once more from the horrible place known as school.
A small blond boy swinging his legs as he sat on the fence bedside the field where all the horses roamed up and down the grassy hillside, in the distance a large castle manor could be seen poking out from the trees. He turned to where the newest rescue horse stood staring down the boy. Barney. Diego didn't like Barney. But the feeling between them was mutual.
"Come over here stupid horse." He exclaimed exasperatedly. All he got was a neigh and snort in reply. All he wanted to do was to give the horse a good scratch and a pet behind its ears, but it was being stubborn for no reason at all. He had already ridden every other horse with his dad bar this one. His dad says it was a scared horse, rescued from somewhere he had never heard of, he thought it was just an annoying horse.
"Diego Robert Brandon!" he heard from behind. "What did I tell you about being near the horses without me or your father around! You know what happened last year with that grumpy old rescue. He clipped your head and almost seriously hurt your eye when you got close to him and spooked him!" His mother bellowed at him from downhill on the track towards the house.
"Sorry Mum" he replied sheepishly as she caught up to where he jumped off the fence to face her.
"Sigh... Whatever will I do with you huh?" as she approached him and scooped him up into her arms and planted a kiss on his dusty face. "Mwahh…My little troublemaker"
"Muuummm I'm already five. I'm too big for hugs and kisses!"
"Never." Came the instant reply.
"Anyways Diego, come along home. Dad has some super exciting news to share about this summer. So, let's go home and see him." She said giddily as she set down the boy to her left, holding his hand as they began to walk down the hill towards the cottage.
"Okie!" Came a chipper response.
As they entered and turned left unto a wider dirt track lined with hedge rows either side, and the horses' field on the left of them. Diego still holding his mother's hand curiously asked. "Mum, do you think I can get my quirk this summer?" His eyes sparkling as he looked at her. "Because everyone else in school already got theirs. And I want mine for when I go back to school, so I can play with everyone too. He continued, voicing his words with a slight whine at the end.
"I am sure you will receive a quirk any day now Diego. But you must be patient." She replied with slight concern lacing her voice. "I didn't get mine until I was 5 and a half."
"Yay! That's only 2 months away!" Holding up 2 fingers to emphasise his point.
"Right... now run along Diego, your dad will be waiting for us in the house." She said as she let go of his hand to allow him to run the remainder of the path to the house on the right of the road. No traffic ever came down this way apart from scheduled visits whenever a new rescue or retired horse would arrive.
'Though that might change soon enough' she thought with a small smile gracing her face.
"DAAD!!" Diego yelled as he burst through the front door. "DAaaadd where are you? Mum said you have to tell us something super cool."
His father in the living room sat on the worn sofa beside the unlit fireplace. A holographic tablet displaying the news was put down onto the table at his left as he got up to greet his son, who ran into his arms winding him slightly.
"Oouf. Afternoon Diego, there's my big boy." He grinned, as he picked up Diego and lifted him into the air. "Did your Mum tell you about the news?"
"Nooo, she said that you would tell me." Diego giggled as his father gently let him back down onto solid earth.
"Well then." He paused thinking on where to start. "You know how Mummy and Daddy both work for the rescue branch of the Joestar Cooperatio-"
"Yeah! with the horses." Diego interrupted.
"Yes, with the horses." Robert sighed "Well we received some news that the Big Boss of the farm, Mr & Mrs Joestar wanted to travel abroad this summer with their wee boy. And they wanted to travel somewhere with lots of open land so that their boy could learn to ride horses. So, they phoned across to here and arranged to stay in the nice big manor up the road from us is and decided to stay there." He paused once more to see Diego's reaction.
"So… it's just your friend staying in the big house." He said dejectedly. "That's not super exciting."
"No son you are right that isn't super exciting. But what will be is the horse racing track that is being built around the estate. You always wanted to learn to ride the horses, and now with a little bit of your dads convincing, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to let you learn at the same time as their son." He finished, big smile plastered on his face.
"Reaallly??!" Diego exclaimed. "I can ride the horses?!"
"Well..." he looked at his sons beaming smile "Yep. You can, I'll make sure of it. But you must be on your best behaviour around the Joestars." He will figure it out when the day came.
3 weeks later
Diego could be seen eagerly standing atop the stone wall around the outside of the house, peering over at the remainder of the construction happening around the outside of the manor on the estate grounds. He could barely believe how fast the track had been created, he had seen his dad repairing fences and that took him all day. New buildings and popped up, although he didn't know what they were going to be used for.
"Diego!" his mother shouted from the kitchen window. "Come inside and get a bath before we go over to the manor."
Today was the day the Joestars had invited the Brando family over for proper introductions and a meal. Both of his parents were dressed in their best clothes, Maria had bought a new floral dress just for this occasion. Whereas Robert was once again wearing his wedding suit. 'If it still fits, I won't be getting a new one' he had said to Maria the week before. Diego was dressed in his Sunday clothes, he didn't like his Sunday clothing, not because of the outfit itself but the dress shoes he wore upon his feet. He would always complain to his mother that they looked silly and felt like wooden logs.
Once Diego had been scrubbed down in the bath and assisted in putting on his smart clothes by his mother. She then positioned him to wait at the front door ready to leave while his mum picked up a small woven gift basket with flowers, chocolates and a fancy looking bottle of wine from the kitchen counter.
"Robert we must leave now if we want to be early to the manor!" she called back into their bedroom, where Robert had just emerged, dressed in his full suit and tie.
"Yes Dear, I'll be with you in just a moment." At that Robert strode down the stairs with an exaggerated stagger and a smirk on his face. "How do I look my dear?"
"Robert you are lookin-"
"Fatter!" Diego giggled out before his mum could finish her sentence. At that his fathers smirk dropped and his mother burst into laughter as she moved towards him with Diego to her back.
"Robert, you are looking dashing" she managed to get out in between giggles, as she moved to give him a hug.
"As do you my dear." As they embraced Robert looked down at Diego with a knowing smirk, one that promised lots of chores later in the week.
"Right, let us be off then." Robert exclaimed, pulling the door and allowing Maria and Diego to pass by before stepping out himself. Turning to lock the door, then putting his keys in his pocket. Holding Maria's arm in his left and Diego's in his right as they begun the walk along the worn track towards the manor to meet their summer neighbours.
