"So, it's official: I'm now trapped in the middle of some ancient curse, performing a ritual that's probably going to end with me being frozen solid or worse. But hey, it's just another day in the life of Akira Tanaka, professional disaster magnet."

---

The darkness is absolute. I can't see a thing, and the cold is unbearable, like the very air has turned into ice, clinging to my skin, seeping into my bones.

I hear Blobby's frantic whispers beside me. "Boss, Boss! I can't feel my appendages!"

"Just… just hold on!" I yell, though I can barely hear my own voice over the heavy silence pressing down on us. The orb's whispers are gone, replaced by an eerie, suffocating stillness.

Kira's voice cuts through the dark. "Akira! Get a grip!"

Her voice echoes, distant and hollow. I try to focus on it, but everything feels so unreal, as if we're caught between worlds.

And then, a crack of thunder shatters the quiet.

"Of course. Because what else could break the silence but the sound of impending doom?"

---

The darkness flickers for a moment, and a shadow looms in front of us. It's tall, towering, a massive figure that seems to pulse with a life of its own, its shape shifting and warping in the flickering darkness.

Then the light comes back—flickering, weak at first, but growing stronger.

And there it is. A towering, armored figure, its body encased in ice, standing before us like a guardian of the temple.

"W-what is that?" Blobby stammers, its usual bounce gone, replaced by genuine fear.

"That," Kira says in a low, shocked voice, "is the Temple's Guardian."

"Well, isn't this a lovely surprise. A giant, frozen warrior that probably wants to kill us? Just what I needed to round out my day."

---

The Guardian steps forward, its heavy, icy steps shaking the ground beneath us. The temperature plummets even further, and I feel the icy air seeping into my skin, chilling me to the core.

I force myself to stand, though my knees feel weak.

"We didn't wake you up, did we?" I ask, even though I know the answer.

Kira doesn't respond, her eyes locked on the massive figure before us.

Kael draws his sword with a swift motion, his stance defensive but poised, ready for whatever comes next.

The Guardian doesn't move at first. It simply stands there, its eyes—if you could call them that—glowing faintly with an unnatural, frosty light.

I glance over at Kira. "How do we stop this thing?"

She doesn't look at me, her focus solely on the Guardian. "We don't. Not easily, anyway."

I feel my heart race. "Great. So we just get to freeze to death while this thing looks at us?"

She doesn't answer, her fingers twitching as if preparing for something.

The Guardian moves then, its movements slow but deliberate. It raises its arm, and with a hiss of freezing wind, a spear of solid ice materializes in its hand.

I step back instinctively, my hand on the hilt of my sword. "I think it's time we ran."

But Kael doesn't move. He's still standing there, his gaze unwavering.

"You can run, Akira. But I'm not going anywhere."

"What are you talking about?" I demand. "Are you crazy? That thing's going to freeze us solid!"

He glances at me, his expression unreadable. "If we fight it, we can destroy it. And if we don't fight it, we die. Simple choice."

Blobby, trembling beside me, chimes in, "Boss, don't let him do anything stupid! We're going to be frozen into popsicles!"

Kira looks over at us now, her expression steely. "Kael's right. We don't have a choice."

"Great. So now it's down to me to figure out how to survive a battle with an ice-cold warrior that's probably older than my entire family lineage combined."

---

The Guardian steps closer, its spear raised, ready to strike.

Kira pulls out a small vial from her pouch. "Stand back," she warns.

I don't wait for her to say it twice. I take a few steps back, bringing Blobby with me.

Kira uncorks the vial, and a bright, blinding light bursts from it, shining directly at the Guardian. The light engulfs the frozen figure, but instead of disintegrating, it only seems to cause the Guardian to stiffen.

For a moment, I think it's working.

Then the Guardian lets out a low, guttural growl, and the light shatters.

The Guardian's form shifts, and its spear hurls toward us with the speed of a lightning strike.

"MOVE!" Kael yells.

"Nothing like a giant ice spear to spice up the day. At this point, I'm pretty sure the universe has it out for me."

---

I dive to the side, narrowly avoiding the spear as it embeds itself in the stone wall with a deafening crash. The sheer force of the strike sends a wave of cold air rushing toward me, freezing the floor beneath my feet.

Blobby lets out a panicked squeal, but I grab it just in time, pulling it away from the freezing blast.

"Boss!" Blobby cries. "We're gonna die!"

Kira steps forward, her hand raised. She starts chanting, a rhythm to her words that makes the air vibrate.

The Guardian's eyes glow brighter, its posture stiffening in reaction. It takes a step forward, the ice around its feet cracking with every movement.

"Get ready!" Kira calls out.

I glance over at Kael, who nods, signaling that he's ready to attack.

The Guardian lunges, its spear raised again, and this time, we're all prepared.

"So, here we are, about to face down a frozen warrior from ancient times, surrounded by icy blasts and an orb that's probably not doing us any favors. If we survive this, I'll be shocked."
