A man was sat in a pitch black room, or it would have been if not for the single monitor beaming its splendid light throughout the room. The man dexterously moved his mouse and clacked on his keyboard with a speed that almost didn't seem human.
Before long the light changed from bright white to a dark screen with red letters reading "You Died". Shortly after he took his VR headset off and half threw it to the ground.
"Haha, well if that strategy didn't work than I guess ill try idea number 25."
He started to click through multiple applications before stopping on a chatting application. At the top the chat was labeled 'Echoed Vows Tester Discussion'. To the left there was a box that showed that the amount of members in the group chat was 6. Five testers and one moderation account from the developers.
Quickly the sound of his inhuman typing speed took over the room and messages were constantly flowing in the group chat. Every one of it's members was actively typing at first they were asking questions about the boss that the man had tried and failed to beat 24 times.
[Aster: I haven't even been able to get it's health bar a 1/10th of the way down but you are already getting to it's second phase.]
[Sorrel: I've gotten pretty close to half health, none of us even knew it had a second phase before your 18th attempt.]
[Iris: It's attack patterns are simple, but it's AOE effects of all of it's attacks that make it difficult.]
[Rose: It's not bad. Just does a lot of damage.]
Every one of the testers in the group chat were the best of the best. Although nicknames were used to hide the identities of the testers, they were of the knowledge that each of them had a skill of similar level.
Each of the testers agreed to try separate classes. Aster was playing as the Berserker class, Sorrel was playing as a Gunslinger, Iris was a Priest, Rose was a Mage, and Calix, the man in the room, was using the Solider class.Â
[Calix: All of his patterns are readable, but require reaction time that maybe only the 5 of us have. Focus on dodging and reading attacks instead of just doing damage.]
This was easier said than done considering Calix was recorded with the fastest reaction time in history with it on average taking him 95 milliseconds for him to react. With his class of solider allowing him to chose a spear or a sword he made use of his quick reactions to poke at his enemies with a spear.
[Calix: Alright, I'm going to try the boss on last time for tonight and head to sleep.]
Without looking at the responses and put his VR headset back on an tabbed back to the game. When he respawned he was right outside of the door that lead to the boss.
"One more try."
He walked through the door that put him through hell 24 times and gazed upon the foul creature in front of him.Â
[Ronrik, the Profaned Prince of Etrell, his body had become grotesque after failing to defend his city that he ruled. The story of Ronrik is one of sadness and despair, who was royalty to the last city stronghold of defiers to the blasphemous vows that overran the once peaceful continent of Eros.Â
His father, the king, tasked him to hold the wave of Vows and monsters that were attacking the city from entering. Ronrik took 1000 men and stationed himself on the bridge outside of once pristine bridge that served as the only entrance or exit into Etrell. As the human forces and evil clashed it was quickly clear that it was impossible for the prince to hold off the nefarious group of invaders.
He fired an arrow that was ablaze into the air, it was the signal to destroy the bridge as soon as possible. Soon after the signal was sent, Ronrik who was on the edge of death decided to give into the Chaos and allow it to almost fully consume him. Giving him power that was unthinkable, but at the cost of losing his humanity and he would never be able to recover.
His body grew fifteen times the size that he had been and his humanistic features slowly dissolved into a mixture of body parts and tangible Chaos.
The black liquid flowed freely and Ronrik with the little control he still had used it as weapon to shred apart the armies of the 7 great Vows. Using the Chaos as whip he quickly demolished any of the weaklings that stood on the bridge and severely wounding any minor Vows that were apart of the wave.
Before the humans that were inside the city could destroy the bridge a massive bolt from an equally enormous ballista was fired from a mountain top barely visible from the top of Etrell.
It didn't take long for that same ballista to fire again and pierce the vital organs of the prince that was consumed by Chaos. Without a collapsed bridge it took no time for the forces of the great Vows to flood into the capital city of Etrell.]
The game describes him as grotesque, but there is truly no way to describe an abomination like the minor Vow, Ronrik. It made Calix wonder just how the developers were able to even think of the design.
The moment he entered the boss fight there was a powerful breathing that overtook the constant sound of rubble and fire that are constant within the fallen capital city of Etrell.Â
Within a second all the hairs on his body stood up at the sound of the hoarse breathing, even after 24 attempts he was unable to subjugate his own primal fear. The abomination quickly formed a black rope out of the Chaos and flung it all around. Calix, already familiar with the patterns, ran straight into the attack with the strangely disturbing whip flailing all around him. Eventually when he the bosses attacks slowed a singular point of a whip shot out inches away from his heart.
