Seriously, why does Helena stay with that boyfriend of hers?
He was a complete good-for-nothing and, to top it off, a womanizer. Really? Had she fallen in love with such a guy?
Helena was very beautiful, but she had never had any luck with men. She always ended up falling in love with horrible guys, and her brother Max always ended up seeing her cry because of them.
"Enough already, Max." Stop saying that, you've repeated it to me hundreds of times, and I'm not in a good mood right now —Helena replied, annoyed.
—I've already told you, I won't make the same mistake of falling in love with another man like that, hmph!
Max laughed sarcastically.
—Ah, yes, of course, and I'm a genie that grants wishes. Come on, Helena, you know very well that you've made that promise at least 66 times. I've counted how many boyfriends you've left, and with this last one, it's already 67.
—Really, you're so annoying, brother!
Helena was too sensitive, thought Max. It seemed she had decided to lock herself in her room.
sigh
Lately, Max had been having strange dreams... A dream where he was a hero who defeated the Demon King. After defeating him, he married the saintly Rosaire, with whom he lived for 10 years of happiness. But from one day to the next, Rosaire, pregnant, fell gravely ill.
In the dream, his other self—more adult than him—desperate and sad at seeing his wife suffer and fearing the loss of his son, used the last gift he had received from the goddess: a wish. But, the greater the desire, the greater the sacrifice. And so, his other version exchanged his life for his wife's happiness.
Max could feel everything that "other self" had felt upon seeing his wife suffer. He too would have wanted to change his life to save that woman... and then, the dream would end.
The strange thing was that her sister Helena looked like Rosaire. I hadn't thought much about it, but lately, I felt strange every time I saw her with a new boyfriend.
Before that dream, perhaps he would have congratulated her or simply said nothing. He no longer cared who Helena was dating. However, with this new boyfriend, something about him felt uncomfortable. It bothered her.
Would he be boyfriend number 68? Max sighed. Deep down, he thought it would all end as usual: Helena crying over that guy and him, her dear younger brother, comforting her as always. The idea made him smile maniacally, almost with happiness.
Six months later...
Helena was still with that man.
"Calm down, Max, calm down," he told himself. Everything would end like the times before, right? Her sister had no luck with men; in the end, he would be her only support as the best little brother in the world.
However, something was different this time. Helena seemed very happy with that guy Kevin. Max couldn't stand it. Helena smiled too much when she was with him. That smile shouldn't be for Kevin. That smile belonged to him.
—Max, why do you have that face? Did someone bother you?
Helena looked at her brother with concern. Lately, Max seemed upset for no reason at all. Or at least, that happened every time she brought Kevin home. I didn't understand the reason, but it seemed obvious.
His sister came over to hug him.
"Her fragrance...", thought Max as he inhaled deeply. It was addictive.
"It's nothing, sister, it's just... I'm just upset because you haven't spent time with me," he replied, blushing as he realized he had been enjoying her scent for too long.
—Oh, I'm sorry, Max. I have been busy with my boyfriend and haven't paid attention to you. But don't worry, today I'll spend the whole day with you.
Max smiled upon hearing that. They spent the entire night playing video games on the console. With Helena, Max felt happy... but it wasn't enough.
"I want my sister to stay with me forever," he thought. "Yes, Helena, I want you to be by my side for all eternity."
