Chapter 21 - The Attack Under the Moon

That night, the moon hung high in the sky like a vigilant eye, observing a world tense with threats and danger. Rai sat near the dimming campfire, his nameless sword resting by his side. The soft glow of moonlight reflected off the blade's surface, imbuing it with an air of unrelenting mystery.

In the distance, Kellan stood atop a large rock, his sharp eyes scanning the surrounding forest. His bow was gripped tightly, an arrow already nocked and ready to be unleashed. Meanwhile, Tenzai and Kaida whispered to each other, discussing plans for their journey ahead.

"Do you feel calm?" Kellan suddenly asked, his voice soft but carrying weight.

Rai turned to him, nodding slightly. "Calm is a luxury we rarely have."

Kellan gave a faint smile. "Maybe, but I always believe calm is the best time to prepare for a storm."

The words felt like a forewarning. Before Rai could reply, a strange cold wind swept through the trees, carrying the scent of iron and blood. Tenzai immediately stood, gripping the hilt of his sword that rested against a tree.

"Do you feel that?" he asked, glancing at Rai.

Rai nodded. "They're coming."

The Abyss Forces Arrive

From the darkness of the forest, crimson eyes began to emerge one by one, like tiny torches lighting up the shadows. Heavy footsteps mixed with a low rumbling sound, creating a deadly atmosphere.

"Abyss forces," Kaida whispered. Her crystal began to emit a soft glow, forming a protective barrier around their group.

From atop the rock, Kellan released his first arrow. The projectile struck one of the leading creatures a werewolf with mangy fur and a jaw stained with blood. The beast fell, but two others immediately took its place.

"There's too many!" Kellan called out.

"Fall back to higher ground!" Tenzai ordered, moving swiftly while shielding Kaida, who was focused on maintaining the barrier.

But before they could retreat far, a massive figure leapt from the darkness. This was no ordinary werewolf. It was a strange hybrid a werewolf with a body clad in dark armor. Its claws gleamed like sharpened steel, and its glowing eyes were filled with malice.

"This is bad," Rai muttered, raising his sword.

The Battle Under the Moonlight

The hybrid charged with impossible speed for a creature of its size. Tenzai raised his sword, blocking its razor-sharp claws. Sparks flew into the air, accompanied by a deafening clang.

"It's stronger than it looks!" Tenzai shouted, pushed back by the impact.

Rai seized the moment to attack from the side. The nameless sword in his hand glowed faintly, as if responding to the danger before them. He unleashed a quick slash aimed at the creature's legs, but the hybrid leapt back with unsettling agility.

Kaida raised her hands, directing her crystal toward the advancing Abyss forces. A wave of light shot out, striking the ranks of creatures and destroying several of them. However, the energy from the crystal wasn't enough to hold them all back.

"We can't hold them off much longer!" Kaida yelled, her voice strained.

"Then we take down their leader!" Rai replied, his eyes locked on the armored hybrid.

The Heart of the Battle

Rai and Tenzai launched a coordinated attack on the creature. Rai struck from the left with a series of rapid slashes, while Tenzai attempted a thrust from the right. The hybrid, however, seemed to anticipate their every move. It deflected Rai's sword with its metallic claws, then spun around to counter Tenzai's strike.

From a distance, Kellan fired arrows one after another, trying to find a weak spot in the creature's armor. After several failed attempts, he aimed for the back of the creature's neck the only area left unprotected.

"Rai, distract it a bit longer!" Kellan shouted.

Rai didn't respond, but he leapt forward, forcing the creature's attention on him. With swift movements, he pivoted and swung his sword toward the creature's midsection.

As the creature raised its claws to block, Kellan released his arrow. The projectile flew true, striking the back of the creature's neck. The hybrid let out an earth-shaking roar, its body staggering forward.

"Now, Rai!" Kaida screamed, using the last of her strength to reinforce her barrier.

Rai jumped, gripping his sword with both hands. With a powerful swing, he brought the blade down on the creature's neck, severing it cleanly.

A Hard-Fought Victory

The hybrid collapsed to the ground with a heavy thud, leaving the remaining Abyss forces hesitant. With their leader slain, the creatures began to retreat into the shadows, leaving the forest silent once more.

Rai stood in place, his breathing heavy. The moonlight illuminated his sweat-covered face as the nameless sword in his hand continued to glimmer faintly, as if satisfied with the battle.

Kellan descended from the rock, his expression serious. "That wasn't an ordinary force. The Abyss is deploying creatures far stronger than before."

Kaida, almost collapsing from exhaustion, sat on the ground clutching her crystal. "They know we're getting closer to their weakness."

Tenzai nodded. "But now we know one thing: they can be fought."

Rai looked at his sword, then at his companions. "They'll come back, and next time they'll bring something worse. But we'll be ready."

With those words, the group began moving again
