Chereads / Geal and the White Crystal / Chapter 25 - I'm Going To Finish the Story!

Chapter 25 - I'm Going To Finish the Story!

The great hero has arrived! With Magnius on the battlefield, victory is almost assured. Dubh struggles to his feet, leaving behind the dust and shards of metal scattered from his crash. Without hesitation, he leaps toward Magnius. The two engage in a fierce exchange of blows, each demonstrating incredible skill, until their battle escalates into a contest of sheer strength.

Geal and the others watch in awe. They are witnessing a level of combat unlike anything they've ever seen.

"Guys, get out of here! From now on, I'll handle this," Magnius commands.

"Right!"

Seizing the opportunity, the group escapes to the surface, riding on Uruta. Meanwhile, the clash between Magnius and Dubh rages on.

"So, none of those attacks on the capital were accidents, were they?" Magnius says, his anger rising. "There was a time I trusted you… but now I see the kind of garbage person you really are."

"It's embarrassing how long it took you to realize that, Chosen One," Dubh replies arrogantly. "Now that my plans are almost complete, I don't need you anymore. You're just an obstacle to the world I want to create. Today, you'll die."

The two men collide again, their powers clashing violently.

"I'm going to create an era where arrogant dreamers like you have no place! I'll eliminate all the Crystals in this world, and with them, the dreams they inspire! You represent everything I despise. Yes, you plant impossible fantasies in people's minds—only to send them off to suffer!" Dubh shouts, his voice filled with fury.

To counter him, Magnius lands a powerful strike that sends Dubh flying. The CEO tumbles across the ground, battered and bruised. Magnius' superiority is undeniable.

"That won't happen. Because I'm going to stop you here and now," Magnius declares, his tone unwavering.

Dubh struggles to get back on his feet, but Magnius remains steady, pointing his sword at the villain. Confident in his victory, Magnius presses the blade of his Excalibur to the CEO's neck, the sword glowing with a golden aura.

"You're wrong, Dubh. The world you want to create doesn't make sense. Even if Crystals ceased to exist, people would still dream. We need dreams—not because they're realistic or practical, but because they give us strength and hope for the future. And as long as I'm here, no dream will die," Magnius says with conviction.

As Magnius corners him, Dubh begins to laugh—a low, sinister chuckle that crescendos into maniacal laughter. Blood drips from his mouth, but he can't stop.

Moments later, Dubh reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small device with a red button. It's minimalist in design but ominous in intent.

"No dream will die? Sure... I'm the only one who can make things different. A world where people don't need to dream to be happy or have hope… One where everyone obeys me!"

"Your heart is filled with hatred, Dubh. That's the problem. A world under your rule would never work," Magnius asserts firmly.

Dubh shakes his head, still laughing.

"Well… in that case, all I need to do is purge the world and rebuild it. I'll destroy the capital and take your dream with it!" Dubh screams, his face contorted with madness.

Without further ado, Dubh presses the button.

This triggers a massive mechanical sphere in outer space to light up. It resembles an artificial iron star, its lights flickering in a spectrum of colors. Accompanied by the deafening roar of its engines, the sphere begins to move, descending rapidly toward the planet.

Back in the city, Uruta flies to the surface and emerges from the headquarters of Curie Industries. Soaring over the metropolis, the bird searches for a rooftop where his friends can safely land. The people below are still unaware of the battle raging beneath their feet.

"Bredgy, let's run away from here… let the Chosen One handle everything," Geal suggests.

"No! We have to warn everyone that Mr.—I mean, Dubh—is a villain. He's too powerful; we can't underestimate him," Bredgy replies, surprising everyone by showing concern for others for once.

"Girls, look at that," Mathias says, pointing toward the sky.

The citizens begin to notice it: a small, shining dot in the firmament, growing steadily larger as it hurtles toward the capital at tremendous speed. One by one, people stop what they're doing, their attention drawn to the strange object.

"What's that?"

"It's coming from space!"

"It's huge!"

The murmurs spread through the crowd.

"Oh no…"

Soon, the sight becomes clear. The massive mechanical sphere plummets toward the capital, igniting into flames as it falls with incomprehensible velocity.

"It can't be… Mr. Dubh activated that weapon! This is bad—really, really bad!" says Bredgy, more shaken than ever before.

"Weapon?" Mathias asks, alarmed by her reaction.

"My dad created an artificial star using his technology—it's called the Mechanical Meteor. He built it in space to destroy the capital if his life was ever in danger. The Royal Mechanic base is underground, like a bunker; he's the only one who'll survive. The rest of us… we're doomed," Bredgy explains, her voice trembling.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, the citizens panic, scattering in search of shelter. The Mechanical Meteor continues its descent, enormous and unstoppable, tearing through the clouds as it approaches the city. It's larger than any building in the capital, an overwhelming presence in the sky.

The Chosen One's chancellor arrives at the scene, flanked by several guards. With a megaphone in hand, he addresses the chaos.

"Citizens, d-don't panic! The cannons of Curie Industries will protect the city from any threat! Trust in our technology!" he declares, attempting to calm the crowd.

The people regain some hope as they hear the mechanical hum of hatches opening across the city. Atop every major building and palace, cannons rise, aiming directly at the meteor.

The cannons glow with an intense white light, gathering energy for a powerful strike.

"It's true! Curie Industries will save us!"

"Those cannons can destroy anything," people say.

"No…" Bredgy interjects.

The weapons continue charging, their generators emitting a deafening roar. But just as they're about to fire, the cannons shut down in unison, their lights dimming.

The crowd is bewildered.

"Wh-what's happening?! The cannons should've activated by now!" the chancellor exclaims, his legs trembling. "Why aren't they firing?"

"My father programmed all of Curie Industries' technology to deactivate when the meteor is engaged," Bredgy reveals to her friends. "There's no technology that can save us now."

"Not even the cannons worked! We're doomed!" a man shouts.

"Run for your lives!"

"I don't want to die, Mom!" wails the chancellor as he flees in cowardly desperation.

The group watches as the meteor grows larger, dominating the sky. It's impossible to look away—a mesmerizing yet terrifying sight.

"B-Bredgy, you're from Royal Mechanic! You must know how to stop it!" Mathias pleads, grasping for hope.

Bredgy shakes her head solemnly.

"The meteor is drawn by the Earth's magnetic field. Once its electrical charge is activated, there's no way to stop it," she explains. "There's no salvation."

Silence falls over them, heavy and eternal. Every passing second amplifies the anguish of the young heroes. All they can do is stare at the sky, desperate for a miracle.

Then, Uruta perches on the edge of the building's railing, gazing intently at the meteor. The bird has an idea.

"No… there's still an alternative," he says.

Confused, Geal and her companions listen to their friend.

"An alternative? What do you mean?" Bredgy asks.

"There's a way to stop that thing," Uruta declares. "I can make my body large enough to collide with the meteor and destroy it. I just need to fly up to it. If I can make it explode in the sky, the capital will be saved…"

Hearing this, Geal turns pale and takes a few steps back.

"W-what kind of nonsense are you talking about, Uruta?" Geal stammers, unable to believe what she's hearing. "If you do that… you'll…"

"Exactly! No matter how big you make yourself, your body won't survive an explosion that massive," Bredgy adds.

Uruta smiles softly, looking at his friends. For a moment, he sets aside his logical demeanor, revealing his gentler side. He's already made up his mind.

"Do you remember when I told you about my dream, Geal?" Uruta asks.

"Huh?"

Resolute, the feathered hero turns to face the meteor, letting out a deep sigh. The tension eases briefly, as if time itself slows down.

"Since I started traveling with you all, I've watched you fight for your dreams with so much determination. I don't want to be left behind. Now it's my turn to shine!" Uruta says, looking at the mechanical sphere as if it were prey to hunt. "My dream is to bring honor to the name of the Spirit Birds. That's the story I want to complete. My whole life, I've been preparing for a moment like this… If I have to give my life for it, then I'm ready. I've been ready for a long time."

A brief silence falls over the group, Uruta's declaration leaving them stunned.

"Uruta, you're such a fool!" Geal exclaims.

She begins flailing her arms like a child throwing a tantrum. She's angry, her friend's words making her bristle with frustration.

"Fool, fool, fool, fool, fool! How can you say something like that so casually? I don't want you to die!" Geal shouts.

She can't help but pout, her eyes welling up with tears. She doesn't want to lose her friend.

"I won't let you do this! I want to be with you for many, many, many more years! You can't die—no, no, no!"

"Geal…" the bird interrupts.

With calm determination, Uruta removes his necklace and places it around Geal's neck—the same necklace his parents gave him before they died. Geal quiets down, somehow understanding that this is what her friend wants. She doesn't have the right to stop him.

Uruta smiles, reminiscing.

"Thank you for always being by my side," he says. "Since the day you saved me, my life has been full of wonderful things. I remember all the times we ate cake, or when you tried to heal me after I hurt my wing; when we played in puddles with Mathias, or those nights when you had nightmares and fell asleep hugging me…"

The memories flood their minds. Geal gently holds the necklace her friend has just given her—the one he's worn since they first met. Bredgy and Mathias watch with melancholy expressions.

"All those moments mean so much to me. They'll stay in my heart for all eternity," Uruta says with a tender smile.

"B-but we won't be together anymore… What am I going to do without you?" Geal asks, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm a bird, Geal. We soar through the wind, don't we?" Uruta says as the breeze ruffles his feathers. "Whenever you feel the wind brushing your cheek, that'll be me. Don't be afraid. I won't leave you alone. But for now, I have to go."

Geal can't hold back any longer. She bursts into tears and throws herself into a tight hug with her feathered friend, making sure to feel his warmth.

"I love you so much, Uruta! I'll remember you forever! I promise…" Geal cries, stroking her friend, unwilling to let him go.

"Take good care of Geal for me, will you?" Uruta says, addressing Bredgy and Mathias.

"Of course, my friend," Bredgy replies, her voice tinged with sorrow.

Perched once again on the railing, Uruta gently brushes Geal's cheek. He wants her to remember his touch, to feel his affection one last time.

"I love you too, Geal. See you soon. Don't forget me, okay?"

Our heroine nods, ready to let her friend go. With that, Uruta prepares to take flight, determination blazing in his eyes.

"Goodbye, everyone!" he calls out as he takes off.

"Goodbye, Uruta!"

Flying toward the heavens, Uruta soars with his sights set on the meteor, using his magic to grow as large as possible. He ensures that the entire world can see him.

"I have to finish my story!" Uruta thinks.

Uruta puffs out his chest, ready to release everything he has held back for years.

"Listen, everyone, look to the sky!" the bird cries out.

Uruta flies, growing ever larger, faster, and more powerful, soon becoming indistinguishable from a luminous projectile. People notice him, his radiant body impossible to ignore.

"What is that?"

"Did that bird just talk?"

"It's huge, heading straight for the meteor!"

"My name is Uruta, and I am a Spirit Bird, the last one alive!" Uruta declares passionately. "Watch closely, humans! I will restore glory to the name of my kind! Today, the great Uruta will save you all!"

The people are astonished. Against all odds, a peculiar hero has appeared to save them.

"Spirit Bird? Weren't they extinct?"

"Look at those feathers—it's a real one!"

"And it can talk!"

As they barely begin to process this revelation, hope starts to stir among the crowd. They shout encouragement, cheering him on. Uruta feels overwhelmed by the trust these humans are placing in him. It feels as though his mere presence has mended something he didn't break.

"They're supporting me?" Uruta thinks, his heart swelling with joy. "Not just them…"

"Huh?"

A whisper echoes nearby. Perplexed, Uruta glances around. That's when he notices the spirits of his father and mother flying alongside him. The feathered hero is struck speechless by their appearance.

"You've become a magnificent bird, Uruta. I'm proud of you," says his father's spirit, flying close to him.

At this incredible moment, Uruta bursts into tears. The parents he lost long ago are flying by his side one last time.

"Mom! Dad! I-I missed you so much!" cries Uruta.

"We never left. We've always been with you. We've followed you and Geal this whole time," his mother's spirit says, offering a warm smile. "I'm so proud to see my little one grow so brave."

Overcome with emotion, Uruta weeps tears of joy, smiling as the wind carries his tears away. Around him, the spirits of all the birds of his kind take flight, painting the sky with a fleet of white lights, joining him on his path.

"Everyone… you all came!" Uruta sobs, deeply moved.

The collision becomes inevitable. A colossal white bird and a monstrous steel abomination charge toward each other above the clouds. The power of the Spirit Birds converges to stop the meteor. Will they succeed?

"We'll lend you our strength. The story of our kind ends with you. But because of you, our legend will begin. Thank you for doing this for us, son. Our legacy will live on forever," Uruta's father proclaims, as proud as a parent can be.

Uruta quietly celebrates his father's praise in his heart.

"Welcome home, son," his mother's spirit adds.

And then it happens: Uruta crashes with full force into the Mechanical Meteor, obliterating it entirely in an explosion so brilliant that for a moment, it seems to outshine the sun itself. The sky lights up, showering the capital with countless sparks that gleam like stars at midday.

"Yes, Mom… I'm coming home."

The meteor is destroyed. The capital is safe. Meanwhile, Uruta's soul returns to where it has always belonged. He is reunited with those who have long awaited him. In the distance, the people celebrate, the bird's name echoing from mouth to mouth. A new hero has carved a place in the history of the Land of the Gem. The legend of Uruta, the great hero, is born.

"He did it! The great Uruta saved us!"

"Hurray! Hurray!"

Elsewhere, atop the tallest building with a privileged view of the scene, Geal and her companions hold hands. They watch as their friend's brilliant feathers bathe the sky in light. The heavens are cloaked in white. Uruta has fulfilled his dream.

"Goodbye… my friend."
