Chapter 1 - Shadows of the Past

Opening Scene - Walking the Streets of Japan Ryker Ashen walked slowly down a crowded street in Japan, his steps tapping out a rhythm with the help of his walking cane. He wore black sunglasses to shield his scarred eyes from the light, though he hadn't seen light or anything else for years. The scars that marred his face told a silent story, trailing from his brow down both cheeks—reminders of a life once filled with pride, strength, and hubris.

As the crowd parted around him, Ryker's mind wandered to the past…

Flashback: The Sword Master There was a time when Ryker Ashen was a name spoken with reverence—the undefeated sword master, the champion of countless tournaments. Day and night, he had practiced relentlessly, honing his skills until he could defeat any opponent. His pride swelled with every victory.

Then came the day of the Grand Finals—the day that shattered everything.

His opponent was unlike anyone Ryker had ever faced: faster, stronger, and eerily calm. The man fought with a smile, as if every strike were a dance, every parry a jest. Ryker, driven by ego, began to falter. His movements turned desperate. His blade grew heavy.

How can he be so strong?

In a flash of steel, it was over. Ryker's opponent shattered his sword…and then the blade came down across his eyes.

The searing pain. The darkness. The scream that tore through him as the world vanished.

That was the last thing Ryker Ashen ever saw.

Present - The Noise in the Streets Ryker blinked, returning to the present as the sounds of laughter and chatter reached his ears. Teenagers walked nearby, joking and teasing each other. Ryker smiled faintly—his ears, sharper now than ever, told him everything he needed to know about the world he couldn't see.

Suddenly, a shrill scream split the air.

"What's going on?!" a teenager shouted.

Ryker stopped in his tracks, his cane hovering just above the pavement. A strange hum vibrated in the air, low and unnatural. Then another voice, trembling with fear:

"W-why are there floating blue circles? What is this?!"

Ryker frowned. Before he could react, the ground beneath him seemed to vanish. His body lifted into the air as though carried by unseen hands.

Stay calm, he told himself, though his heart raced in his chest. A blind man floating off his feet was disorienting enough, but there was something else—a deeper fear tugging at him.

And then, with a painful thud, he hit the ground.

"Ouch," Ryker muttered, rubbing his side. Around him, he heard the teens gasping, whispering, and exclaiming:

"Where are we? What just happened?!"

A regal, commanding voice spoke behind them.

"Welcome, otherworlders, to our kingdom."

The Queen and the Summoning Ryker remained still, listening intently. The teenagers turned toward the voice. One of them, clearly their leader—his voice confident and steady—spoke up:

"Who are you? Why are we here?"

"I am the Queen of this kingdom," the voice replied, calm yet firm. "You have been summoned here as heroes, to aid us in our time of great peril."

The teenagers fell into hushed whispers, debating among themselves. Their leader finally turned back to the Queen and said, "We'll help you."

The Queen smiled. "Good. Then, may I know the names of our brave heroes?"

One by one, the six teenagers introduced themselves.

The Queen nodded, pleased…but then her gaze shifted.

"Excuse me, heroes," she said. "Who is that man standing behind you?"

The teens turned as one, startled. Ryker stood there silently, his cane resting in his hand. He could feel their stares on him, could hear their muttered confusion.

"Uh…we don't know him, Your Highness," the leader said. "He might've gotten stuck here when you summoned us."

The Queen's voice softened with curiosity. "Stranger, who are you? Were you summoned here as well?"

Ryker turned his head toward her voice and spoke calmly. "My name is Ryker Ashen. I…believe I was summoned here by mistake."

The Queen frowned slightly. "I see. Forgive me, sir, but…what is that upon your eyes?"

Ryker smiled faintly. "These are my glasses. They protect my eyes from the light." He paused. "I am blind."

A stunned silence followed. One of the Queen's attendants gasped.

"Blind?! Then…how do you find your way?"

Ryker lifted his cane, tapping it lightly against the ground. "This walking stick helps me navigate. Being blind doesn't mean I'm helpless."

The Queen's voice grew heavy with regret. "I am sorry, Sir Ryker, for summoning you to this world. I fear we cannot send you back."

Ryker shrugged, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "It doesn't matter. My life back home had nothing special left for me. Maybe here, I can find a new purpose…or just live a quiet, carefree life."

The Queen smiled gently. "You are kind, Sir Ryker."

The Status Screen The Queen's magic attendant stepped forward. "Heroes, to see your abilities and power, simply say, 'Status.'"

The teens all said it eagerly, their voices overlapping:

"Status!"

Bright, glowing screens appeared before them, detailing their levels, health points, magic points, and more. Their awed gasps filled the air.

Ryker, curious, muttered under his breath, "Status."

Nothing happened.

But then, something clicked in his mind. A screen appeared—not in front of him, but within his thoughts.

Ryker's lips curled into a small smile. So, I have something after all.

After all the years of being blind, after battles where he could do nothing but falter, Ryker felt as if the weight of his past had been lifted. This world—this strange, new place—had given him something precious: a second chance. His knees buckled, and he fell to the ground, tears streaming from his scarred eyes as he began to mumble softly:

"Thank you… Thank you…"

The group of heroes and the Queen stared in concern, exchanging glances. The Queen's face softened, her eyes glimmering with sadness as she stepped closer.

"Sir Ryker," she asked gently. "Are you alright? Do you need help?"

Ryker shook his head, wiping his face with the back of his sleeve. Slowly, he lifted his face, his smile wide and radiant. "I'm good," he said, laughing softly. "Actually… I'm feeling awesome! I just found out that I have power."

One of the heroes, a boy with sharp features and inquisitive eyes, tilted his head. "What do you mean by power?"

Without answering, Ryker stood up and took a deep breath. He closed his scarred, sightless eyes and focused. A hum of energy pulsed through him, flowing from deep within his core. Suddenly, his body began to glow. The light radiating off him was mesmerizing—a swirling aura, silver with hints of deep blue, enveloped his frame. It pulsed rhythmically like a heartbeat, humming with untapped power.

The heroes gasped audibly, some stumbling back in shock.

"What… what is this power?" one whispered.

"It's… unreal," another stuttered.

The Queen, equally astonished, spoke softly, her voice full of wonder. "Who is this man?"

Ryker smiled wider as he fully embraced the feeling, his senses alive. With deliberate care, he reached for his cane and slid out the hidden blade within. The polished steel gleamed as his aura snaked along its edge, turning the weapon into a vessel of power. With a single step, Ryker moved into a sword stance—elegant, precise, and unwavering. His blade began to sing through the air as he performed a series of breathtaking maneuvers: spins, flourishes, and sweeping arcs that released waves of silver-blue wind. The air trembled with his movements, sending ripples of power across the ground. The heroes could feel it—a weight, a force pressing against them as if the very air bowed to Ryker's will.

"What the hell?" one of the heroes cried, stumbling back. "Skill appraisal!"

A glowing screen appeared before the hero, detailing Ryker's level, abilities, and skills. His eyes widened in shock as he read the contents, his voice breaking as he shouted:

"No way! Ryker… Ryker's level, skills, abilities… He's… he's insane! This is unreal!"

The others turned toward the hero, their curiosity piqued. As they glanced at the status screen, their faces paled, and their mouths dropped open in disbelief. Stuttering and gasping, they spoke in hushed, panicked tones, each unable to comprehend what they were seeing.

The Queen, still watching Ryker, murmured under her breath, "Who… who is this man?"

Suddenly, one of the girls in the group—her eyes wide with realization—stepped forward. Her voice trembled as a memory struck her like lightning.

"No way," she whispered.

The others turned to her, confused. "What is it? Why did you yell?" one asked.

The girl pointed at Ryker, her voice louder now, filled with disbelief and awe. "He's Ryker Ashen! The former Sword Master Champion from our world!"

The group froze, stunned.

"The Sword Master Champion?" one repeated, his voice breaking.

"But… I thought his last fight…" another added, trailing off.

The girl nodded, her eyes still locked on Ryker. "His opponent blinded him. He lost that fight because his eyes were sliced… That's why he's blind now."

Ryker's sword slowed to a stop, the aura around him fading until the air settled once more. He slid his blade back into the cane with a satisfying click and turned his face toward the group, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

"So," he said, his voice calm and full of quiet confidence, "what did you guys think?"

The heroes stared at him, wide-eyed and slack-jawed. None of them spoke. None of them could. They were frozen in place, stunned into silence.

Ryker frowned slightly, tilting his head. "Uh… Guys? Are you there?" he asked, confusion lacing his voice.

Still, they said nothing, unable to believe what they had just witnessed.
