Chapter 3 - Reluctant exam

"Oh my God." Jack didn't panic or shout, but just said two words softly, then hit his head on the bed frame, then squatted there holding his head, dizzy.

"What's wrong with you?" Collins rushed in excitedly with chopsticks, but was shocked to see Jack squatting there holding his head.

"My hand!" Jack stretched out his right hand and looked at the five fingers in front of him.

"Did you burn your hand?" Collins put down his chopsticks and searched in the room where cockroaches were infested. "I have burn ointment."

Jack blinked and stared at his hand, dazed.

"Where did you burn?" Collins came over with the burn ointment. "Here."

Jack suddenly laughed, "It's an illusion. I was scared by that crazy woman, so I had an illusion." He smiled, pushed away Collins's kindness, picked up the chopsticks and started eating.

After dinner, Jack threw the plastic bag of rice behind the building and wiped his mouth, "Will you take me to play World of Warcraft this afternoon?"

"I'm going shopping with my girlfriend." Collins said while applying hairspray, "I'll take you there in the evening."

It was really boring to stay alone in the dormitory. Jack browsed the Internet for a few rounds and found it boring. He returned to the bed, sat there, and looked at his hands, "Spoon? Can you believe that one of my fingers turned into a spoon just now? Really..." He put his hand behind his head, shook his head and smiled bitterly, "Spoon... Spoon!" Suddenly he felt something hard on his head. He sat up, pulled his hand back, and saw the spoon appear in his hand again.

"Who would believe that my fingers can turn into spoons?" Jack laughed, laughing happily, then banged his head against the wall and yelled, "What the hell is going on!"

He took out his cell phone and called: "Emily Lili! Can you believe that I turned a finger into a spoon?!"

Emily Lili looked confused: "You told me that I turned all my fingers into spoons, and I would believe it. What did you do yesterday? I called you, but you didn't answer. I sent you a text message, but you didn't reply!"

Call? Jack has been under a lot of pressure these days and has completely forgotten to call his girlfriend. He smiled awkwardly and said, "I slept all day yesterday... You know how much pressure I have to find a job recently..."

Emily Lili is Jack's girlfriend. On the first day of college, when Jack went to the gym to pay tuition, he saw her and decided that she was his dream lover. After a month of vigorous pursuit, he succeeded and started a four-year relationship.

Emily Lili is a local, so she is naturally not restricted by the third rule of college romance. Jack brought her home when he was a junior, and made his mother so happy that she gained nine pounds in a month.

Basically, from grandpa to eight-year-old cousin, they all regarded Emily Lili as their future bride, wife, and sister-in-law.

Jack thought so too, and believed that he and this woman were tied together for life.

After chatting for half an hour, Jack hung up the phone and prepared to take a nap before picking up Emily Lili, who worked in an import and export company. Lying on the bed, he just put his hand on his chest and prepared to fall asleep, but suddenly remembered the spoon and sat up suddenly.

He decided to give it a try.

"Spoon, spoon..." Jack looked at the five intact fingers of his right hand and concentrated on self-hypnosis. "My right middle finger is a spoon..."

And it's a Cat brand stainless steel spoon. Jack watched the finger slowly melt and then reshaped into a spoon exactly the same as he remembered, shining with metallic luster.

"Oh my God, this is so exciting." Jack whispered, and then banged his head against the wall again.

Twenty minutes later, he woke up. "What the hell is going on!"

He stared at his hand for a while, and began to talk to himself again, "Turn into a shovel, turn into a shovel..."

A beautiful little shovel replaced his index finger.

"Turn into a kitchen knife, turn into a kitchen knife..."

A shiny, eye-catching, cold, and frightening mini kitchen knife appeared on his thumb.

After turning his ring finger and pinky finger into a fork and chopsticks, he finally confirmed one thing: "No longer have to worry about having no utensils for eating."

"I am the *** Terminator!" Jack waved his arm and inserted his entire right hand into the bed frame. "What the hell is going on!"

Then he felt a sharp pain, and when he pulled his hand out of the bed frame, tears almost came out.

Not only the five fingers, his right hand could actually transform into a shiny robot cat, even the delicate beard and the magical space bag were lifelike.

Then, he transformed his entire right arm into an M16 assault rifle that could not shoot.

"It turns out that I have the ability to transform." Jack removed his thigh and watched it turn into a cool Porsche 911 sports car. Then he realized a fact: everything seemed to follow the laws of physics, energy conservation, and the volume or size before and after the change remained the same. He tried to turn his private parts into an iron rod, but it turned out to be just a thin and almost invisible gadget.

The neural connection still works. When Jack's right hand was transformed from various tableware back to its original state, it was swollen like a small carrot, and a slight touch made him scream in pain.

"Can anyone tell me what's going on?" Jack knelt on the balcony of the apartment, clasped his hands together, and looked up at the stars, "Why is it like this..."

Energy is conserved, matter is indestructible, but how can things with completely different molecular structures be transformed so freely? Jack turned his left hand into a sharp kitchen knife and his right hand into a solid steel plate. He chopped it off with a knife, sparks flew everywhere, and it was completely a collision between steel. Although Jack was trembling with pain afterwards, the experiment was successful: his ** really turned into steel.

Steel, plastic, stone... His body seemed to be able to simulate the changes of any material, but the time was limited, and it would automatically return to its original state after about ten minutes.

"Hold the sharp blade and move forward bravely." Jack jumped to the ground, his right hand turned into a sharp saber, chanted the poem he adapted, and used his sharp knife skills to split the iron chair in front of him in half with one knife.

However, his right hand swelled like a carrot again.

"Practice slowly, and one day I will make that old woman beg for mercy!" Jack did not forget the shame of being punched by that strange woman and almost vomiting blood, "But what does she mean by asking me to apply for the national civil service exam? Does she think I can pass it?"

He did not take it to heart, carrying his bathing supplies to the bathroom, ready to take a shower and pick up his girlfriend.

However, the silver watch on his wrist could not be taken off no matter what.

"What is this thing?" The appearance of this watch is no different from an ordinary mechanical watch, and there is an exquisite steel buckle on the metal strap. According to Jack's understanding of watches, it can be unlocked with a light press.

But he just couldn't get it untied.

He struggled in the bathroom for a long time, and his right thumb was almost bleeding, but the watch was still firmly on his wrist.

"There is a way!" Jack looked around and saw no one, and began to try to make his left arm thinner.

But to his surprise, the watch automatically adjusted as his wrist became thinner, and it was still tightly attached to his skin.

Jack's eyes were fixed on the seemingly high-tech electronic watch, and he couldn't move away.

Forget it. Jack poured a basin of cold water on himself and sighed: This waterproof all-steel watch is also worth a lot of money.

But why is it an electronic watch? And it has a cartoon pattern on the background... When Jack went to pick up his girlfriend Emily Lili, he took a lot of time to convince her that he bought this watch for her: "Really, but I don't know why I can't take it off now." Jack said this with a helpless look on his face, "When I went back to find the person who sold the watch, I couldn't find it anymore."

Emily Lili is petite, with long flowing hair, and she looks particularly charming when she occasionally swings it.

"It's okay, wear it, it looks good." Emily smiled and comforted Jack, and the two found a restaurant to have dinner together.

Life is actually quite peaceful, as long as Jack doesn't think about those troubles, life is enjoyable.

Occasionally submitting a few resumes, occasionally playing games with friends, occasionally testing my abilities when no one is around, and occasionally going out with Emily to enjoy the world of two people, it is also very happy.

However, happy days are always short. One night a week later, when Jack was playing poker with his friends in the living room of his apartment, his good friend Collins suddenly rushed in: "Jack!"

"Wait! I'm about to win this game!" Jack was holding a cigarette and laughing happily, "Let me finish this game first!"

"Playing for nothing!" Collins grabbed Jack's arm and dragged him out, "Come and see!"

"What are you looking at!" Jack was almost dragged down, "I'm winning!"

"Win your head!" Collins dragged Jack to his room, "Do you have any relationship with the FBI?"

Jack was very angry: "What a shitty relationship! If there was someone in my family there, would I still need to send my resume everywhere?" He shook off Collins' hand, "What's the hurry? Are you rushing to put out a fire!"

"Come and see!" Collins turned the computer screen around, "What's going on!"

What's going on? Jack leaned over to take a look: "Isn't it the national civil servant recruitment plan? Can you pass it?"

"Can't I take a look?" Collins said confidently, "Even if I can't pass, can't I learn about it?"

"What does that have to do with me." Jack looked for a long time but couldn't figure it out, "Ministry of Finance... Do you think I can pass it?"

"Not this one." Collins pointed to a position on the screen, "It's the FBI one."

"Does the FBI also recruit civil servants?" Jack didn't know that the FBI recruited a lot of people every year, and just glanced at it casually, "Accountant? To work in the accounting management of the New York FBI branch, professional... financial management..." He looked at Collins, and Collins also looked at him: "Continue reading."

"Requirements: Suitable for men, work location in New York City, the applicant's name must be... Jack?" Jack looked at the requirements and was stunned, "What does this mean?"

"It means that only people named Jack who have studied financial management can apply for this position!" Collins' eyes widened, "Tell me yourself, what is your relationship with the FBI!"

Jack suddenly remembered what the strange woman said before leaving: "Remember to apply for the national civil service exam..."

Oh my God! Jack suddenly understood: that woman was from the FBI!

"Will you report it or not? This position is tailor-made for you!" Collins' spit almost sprayed on Jack's face, "Why don't you tell the truth!"

"No!" Jack said firmly, he would rather give up this possible opportunity than have anything to do with that strange woman again, "Do you remember the woman who punched me last time? This must be her doing!"

His roommate Collins suddenly realized, he still remembered the terrifying scene of the woman suddenly appearing in front of them and kicking Jack away, and he shuddered.

"Anyway, I won't report it. Whoever wants to report it can report it!" Jack gritted his teeth and said, "I won't report it even if I'm beaten to death! I'm going to submit my resume on CareerBuilder (a well-known job search website in the United States) now, and I'm going to find a new job as soon as possible!"

However, Jack's job search journey was extremely bumpy. Every time he received an interview notice, something strange would always happen. For example, the simplest one was a traffic jam. A motorcycle and a car collided in the middle of the road. The two sides argued and caused traffic jams for more than an hour. Anxious Jack jumped out of the taxi and just ran a few steps before he was stopped by the police, who accused him of not being able to open the door and get off the car in the fast lane.

For another example, a company in New York invited him to an interview. He took the train to Pennsylvania Station, but encountered a signal failure that had not occurred in 50 years. The train stopped on the track for more than two hours.

Another time, he finally got to the company downstairs smoothly, but accidentally stepped on a piece of watermelon peel thrown from a window upstairs and fell to the ground. Even if his body was as hard as steel, he could not prevent his suit from being torn by a wire hook on the ground, and half of the sleeve was torn off.

"Life!" Collins looked at Jack's tattered suit and almost cried with heartache, but he could see that Jack was on the verge of collapse at this time, "You kid, you can't hold on any longer, right?"

"You should still apply for the civil service job?" Collins said earnestly, "I'm worried that your job search will affect me, no, it has already affected me!" He picked up the tattered suit, "You should just give in."

"I just won't apply!" Jack said stubbornly, "Come and kill me if you can!"

Collins shook his head helplessly: "It's hard to persuade the damned ghost with good words. Listen to others' advice, eat a full meal, why do you have to make things difficult for yourself?"

It's not known whether Collins' words worked, or Jack finally couldn't stand the pressure from his girlfriend Emily. On the last day of registration, he filled out the resume form: "I admit it. God will help you, okay?" He imagined the computer as that strange woman, gritted his teeth and said hatefully, "You are so cruel! I will apply!"
