Chapter 1 - Beneath the Rain

LIANA'S POV

"Get up, Liana!" Cecilia's voice cut through the pain like a blade. I was standing in the hospital parking lot, blood soaking through my dress and all my step mom was after is my family's legacy. My arms tightened around my baby as tears stung my eyes. She couldn't even help me hold my baby and I was bleeding all over the place

"My baby… please… help…" I begged, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Your baby?" Cecilia barked, her hands on her hips. "Is that bastard all you care about? You're lying here, bleeding like a fool, and all you can think about is that child? Do you have no shame?"

I couldn't respond. The pain in my stomach felt like it was tearing me apart. I clutched Mia closer, her tiny cries barely audible over Cecilia's ranting.

"Stand up!" she snapped again. "You're not going to die here and drag this family's name through the mud even more."

I tried to move, but my legs were too weak to move. I tried to reach for her hand but she pulled away , leaving just me to walk alone

Finally, the hospital staff noticed us. Nurses rushed out, one of them kneeling beside me. "She's losing too much blood," a voice said, urgent and panicked.

I thought Cecilia might let them help, but instead, she rolled her eyes and waved her hand dismissively. "Do your job. She gave birth to a bastard, and now it has cost her a lot of blood .Unbelievable."

The nurses didn't respond, quickly loading me onto a stretcher and rushing me inside. The hospital lights blinded me as I tried to hold onto consciousness, I didn't even care where my baby is again all i needed was to survive

"She needs a blood transfusion immediately," one of the doctors said.

Cecilia scoffed. "Don't look at me. I'm not her mother. Her father is on his way here. He can deal with this mess."

A moment later, I heard the hurried footsteps of Marcus, my father. His face was pale, his hair was a mess like he had run all the way here. "What's happening? Is she okay?" he asked, his voice trembling.

"She needs blood, Marcus!" Cecilia snapped, cutting him off. "Go donate before you start asking stupid questions."

Marcus rushed forward without hesitation, following the nurses as they prepared him for the transfusion. He looked back at me, his eyes soft and full of worry. "Liana, don't be scared. You'll be fine. I promise."

I wanted to believe him, but my body was too weak, my vision growing darker with each passing second.

Minutes turned into eternity until the doctor returned. His expression was tense, his hesitation making the room feel colder.

The doctor sighed, clearly uncomfortable. "We ran the necessary tests to determine compatibility for the blood transfusion. Standard protocol."

Marcus nodded. "And?"

The doctor glanced down at the clipboard, avoiding eye contact. "Your blood type wasn't a match for Liana's."

"What do you mean it wasn't a match?" Marcus's brows furrowed in confusion. "I'm her father. I should be compatible!"

The doctor hesitated again, clearing his throat. "That's... the issue, Mr. Marcus. Based on the blood work, you're not biologically related to Liana."

"What are you saying?" Marcus's voice was a mixture of disbelief and anger. "There must be a mistake. Run the tests again!"

"We double-checked the results," the doctor said gently, his tone cautious. "I understand this is a shock, but the science doesn't lie."

I opened my mouth to speak, but no sound came out. My vision blurred at the revelation and my eyes were dimmed with tears

Marcus stumbled back, gripping the edge of a chair to steady himself. "This can't be true," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Cecilia, standing smugly in the corner, finally spoke, her tone dripping with venom. "Well, Marcus, I suppose the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? First a bastard child, and now she's the bastard herself."

The words echoed in my mind and that was the last thing I heard, I passed out .After what felt like eternity,I woke up.

When I woke up, the room was dim, and my head felt heavy. My first thought was of Marcus. "Where's Dad?" I muttered silently,my voice barely above a whisper

Cecilia was sitting by the window, flipping through her phone. She looked up and sneered. "Gone. What did you expect? You gave birth to a bastard, and now we find out you're a bastard too."

Her words sliced through me like a knife. I bit my lip to keep from crying, but the tears came anyway.

"Please…" I whispered, clutching Mia. "Don't leave me."

She stood and came closer to my bed, her cold eyes piercing. "You're a disgrace, Liana. This family doesn't have room for you or your pathetic child."

I cried out of my whole eyes,I thought I was dreaming. My dad isn't my dad .It's too painful ,I didn't even remember my baby.

Barely 30 minutes ,the doctor came and I was discharged

The ride home was worse. Cecilia didn't stop talking the entire time.

"You've ruined everything. Do you even know who the father is? Of course, you don't," she snapped. "You're nothing but trouble, and now you've proven you don't even belong in this family."

Her words felt like daggers, but I held Mia closer, her tiny warmth the only comfort I had.

When we arrived, I went straight to Marcus's study and knelt before him, tears streaming down my face. "Dad, please. Don't leave me. I'm sorry. I'll do better."

He didn't even look at me. He just turned and walked out, his silence louder than anything Cecilia had said.

Cecilia appeared behind me, her voice like ice. "You're leaving. Pack your things and take your child. You don't belong here anymore."

I turned to her, desperation clawing at my throat. "Please, don't do this. I have nowhere to go!"

She rolled her eyes. "That's not my problem. Get out."

I got out of my father's mansion. The thought of leaving the mansion made me cry like I was a baby. The rain hit my skin like needles as I stumbled onto the street, Mia strapped to my chest. I could barely see through the downpour, my sobs mixing with the storm.

Out of nowhere, headlights blinded me, and I froze. I almost got hit by a car.

"What's wrong with you?" a deep voice shouted as the driver stepped out.

I didn't answer. I couldn't.

"Hey, are you okay?" the man asked, his tone softening when he saw me shaking.

I still couldn't speak.

"Come on," he said, holding out an umbrella. "You can't stay out here like this. Where are you going?"

I looked at him, a stranger offering kindness when my own family had thrown me away. My lips trembled, but no words came out.

"Let me help you," he said gently, stepping closer.

I wanted to refuse, to keep walking, but my legs gave up as I was shivering and Mia was already drenched by the rain .

"Alright," he said, catching me before I fell. "Let's get you out of the rain."

He led me to his car and wrapped his coat around me. For the first time in hours, I felt warm.

"What's your name?" he asked as he started the car.

"Liana," I whispered, clutching Mia tighter.

"Well, Liana," he said, his voice steady and kind. "You're safe now."
