Chapter 27 - Departure

"You are here," Jung said, still in bed. After waiting for so long, he was truly content to have her back.

The system said nothing. Her presence was more vigorous than ever as she wanted to explain something, yet instead of telling, she chose the showing technique.

[Check your status window.]

[And I will explain.]

Jung heard his parents shouting from downstairs, which meant he had limited time to dive into the changes.

««Archetype System V5.0»»

«Rewards: Unknown; Unknown; Finding yourself.»

Going over everything took time, but Jung inspected it carefully. The first and most notable difference was the system's version.

It meant she evolved and brought new functions, but the only thing Jung could see were changes mixed with simplification and a new archetype.

"I am listening," he said, not letting his emotions out before he knew the full context.

Before she started, the system sighed and collected her words. [I lost the battle, even though I assumed I was ready for it, but it happened way earlier than I predicted.] She spoke quicker but more clearly; there was no sign of her early robotic voice.

"Go on," Jung said with confusion.

[The other system and Archeons, no, the entire world itself didn't like the privileges you had.] She took a short pause and continued. [So I had to fight against them and lost some of your benefits, including the new skills. However, it took a heavy toll on both sides, yet they didn't back down.]

The next emotion her voice displayed was anger, but it was aimed not just at her enemies but at herself too.

[You won't be getting the same benefits.] As her tone was about to turn sour, she changed her emotions and laughed.

[I lost the battle, but not the war.] She appeared proud of her accomplishments but sad that Jung had to adjust to her evolution. [This is the last time, I promise,] she said with utmost confidence.

Jung listened as carefully as he read the status window. The system got ready for his bashings and sarcastic complaints, yet the reality was completely out of her expectations.

"No problem," Jung said, and he felt no ill thoughts. "Just give me the details."

"Sure!" the system exclaimed happily, defining everything Jung required to know.

All in all, his archetype path was set in stone. It was his Keeper archetype that needed him to unleash, but before that, he still had his previous skills. They became part of his essence, so there was no need to display them.

'Keeper,' Jung repeated in his mind. This archetype was a result of his everlasting life.

As for the Rebel and Hero archetypes, he didn't have to change his actions too much. The progression sections merged, and the functions persisted.

However, there was one main transformation regarding skills. Instead of getting two skills per tier, Jung would get one Arc. It was more like an attribute or aspect than a skill, and his first Arc was Shifting Cloud, which originated from his peculiar situation.

All he had to do was climb tiers for the archetypes he already had and find his true self to unleash his unique archetype.

As someone who was proud of his intellect and comprehensive capabilities, Jung found it challenging to understand everything all at once, especially the backstory that caused the conflict between the two systems and the Archeons.

[That's why you need to join Arcane Academy; not only will you find out more, get resources, and test yourself, but there is a way to find clues about the events I can't remember.] She tried to convince Jung to keep his cool.

Either she did a good job, or Jung's adaptation and nonchalance were off the charts.

'It is what it is,' he pondered, left his room, and greeted his parents.

"What about Nero?" he asked, almost concerned. "Why won't she wake up?"

[Nero helped me,] the system revealed, [I needed extra energy, and she was kind enough to aid me.] Her gratitude wasn't limited to empty words; she genuinely felt appreciation for the cat.

"She knows about you then, doesn't she?" Jung asked in excitement, acting like a child who introduced his two friends to each other.

After getting confirmation, he sat with Baki and Lisa and said nothing. His parents radiated almost physically visible panic, and they couldn't even hide it.

Baki checked the essential items for his trip at least five times. He hugged him, spoke softly, expressed his love for his only son, and gave never-ending advice, which, if not for Lisa, would have lasted for days.

"Don't act so clingy. He is going on a good cause," she scolded her husband but tended to Jung with motherly love while he ate his last meal before his departure.

'This is comforting,' Jung thought and spent the standing time with them. The carriage would arrive near Inbox City and gather passengers.

His journey should be safe, and with guards attending the trip, his safety was guaranteed. At just 13 years old, Jung could be regarded as a prodigy. Tier IV at that age wasn't a common occurrence; even his parents barely reached Tier VII recently, which was a major milestone but the second bottleneck not everyone could face.

So, if anything, Jung had an add-on protection, and getting accepted into the academy should be a breather.

However, Baki and Lisa were still worried, and they waited for the carriage with anxious expressions. These overwhelming emotions filled Jung with comfort because of the love he received and would never forget that.

He tried really hard to make his send-off brief and painless, but as he saw his parents' eyes, all of his restrained emotions poured out.

The carriage arrived, and Jung couldn't leave their embrace. Even someone like him, who lived for centuries and settled on the 13th planet, lost against the feelings he lacked all this time.

But the driver wouldn't delay the trip just for him, and he had to say goodbye. Jung decided against some grand words and said shortly.

"Love you, guys." He arrived before the black wooden transport and went inside. After doing so, he waved one more time and called out, "Wait for my return!"

In a few minutes, Jung left his hometown. His destination was the Arcane Academy, a place where, according to the system, great events would unfold.

[It started,] she said soon after, announcing the so-called change that would dictate the fate of this world.
