Caleb's POV
The sun was barely peeking over the horizon, casting a muted glow across Blackwood Hollow. Caleb stood by the edge of the forest, the journal from the founder clutched tightly in his hands. His thoughts were a chaotic tangle. The word sacrifice loomed in his mind like a death sentence.
His wolf stirred uneasily within him, its instincts at odds with his rational thoughts. Protecting Elena was no longer a simple matter of keeping her safe; the stakes had risen. The altar's secrets, Ivanna's growing presence, and the pack's wavering trust—all of it felt like a storm he couldn't control.
The sound of soft footsteps pulled him from his thoughts. He turned to see Elena approaching, her expression a mix of determination and exhaustion.
"You're up early," she said, crossing her arms.
"So are you," Caleb replied. "Couldn't sleep?"
Elena shook her head, her gaze shifting to the forest. "There's too much to think about. The journal, the pack, Ivanna… it's all connected, but I can't figure out how."
"We will," Caleb assured her, though his own doubts lingered.
She glanced at the journal in his hands. "Have you found anything else in there?"
"Nothing helpful," he admitted. "Just more warnings about the altar's power and the dangers of those who seek it."
Elena's lips pressed into a thin line. "Then we need to keep looking. There has to be something—another clue, another connection. We can't just wait for Ivanna to make her move."
Caleb admired her resolve, even as it worried him. She was right—they couldn't afford to wait—but the idea of her diving deeper into the mysteries of the altar made his wolf restless.
"Let's start with the library again," he said finally. "Mia might have found more journals or records we missed."
Elena nodded, her eyes glinting with determination. "Then let's not waste any time."

Elena's POV
The library was quiet, the scent of aged paper and wood lingering in the air. Mia greeted them with a small smile, though her expression quickly grew serious as Caleb explained their plan.
"I've been going through more of the founder's writings," Mia said, pulling a stack of books from a nearby table. "There's a lot about the pack's history, but not much about the altar itself. It's almost like they were afraid to write it down."
"Or someone made sure it was erased," Elena suggested, flipping through one of the books.
Mia nodded. "It's possible. But there is one thing I found that might be useful."
She handed Caleb a faded map of Blackwood Hollow, its edges frayed and torn.
"What's this?" Caleb asked, studying the markings.
"It's an old map of the Hollow," Mia explained. "There are landmarks here that don't exist anymore—like this one."
She pointed to a symbol etched near the edge of the forest: a crescent moon surrounded by stars.
"What is it?" Elena asked, leaning closer.
"I'm not sure," Mia admitted. "But it could be another site connected to the altar. If the founders marked it, it must have been important."
Elena's heart raced. This could be the breakthrough they needed.
"We need to check it out," she said, already moving toward the door.
"Elena, wait," Caleb said, grabbing her arm. "We don't know what's out there. It could be dangerous."
"Everything about this is dangerous," Elena shot back. "But we can't keep hiding. If this site has answers, we need to find them."
Caleb hesitated, his protective instincts warring with the logic of her argument. Finally, he nodded. "Fine. But we're going together."

The Forgotten Clearing
The journey to the marked site was longer than expected, the dense forest slowing their progress. Caleb led the way, his heightened senses on high alert. Elena followed closely behind, clutching the map tightly.
When they finally reached the clearing, Elena felt a strange sense of déjà vu. The space was eerily quiet, the air thick with an unspoken tension. At its center stood a crumbling stone structure, half-buried beneath moss and vines.
"This must be it," she said, stepping forward.
Caleb grabbed her arm, pulling her back. "Careful. We don't know what we're dealing with."
Elena pulled free, her curiosity outweighing her caution. She approached the structure, her fingers brushing against the rough stone. Symbols similar to those on the altar were carved into its surface, their meaning just out of reach.
"Do you feel that?" she asked, glancing at Caleb.
He nodded, his golden eyes scanning the clearing. "There's power here. Old power."
Before he could say more, the ground beneath their feet shifted, and a low rumble echoed through the clearing. Caleb grabbed Elena, pulling her back as a hidden doorway revealed itself at the base of the structure.
Elena's breath caught. "What is that?"
"I don't know," Caleb admitted, his expression dark. "But we're not going in there until we know it's safe."
Elena opened her mouth to argue, but the look in Caleb's eyes silenced her. For now, they would wait.

The Pack's Growing Divide
Back at the Hollow, the pack was in turmoil. News of the hidden site had spread quickly, and opinions were divided.
"This is a mistake," one of the elders argued. "We shouldn't be meddling with forces we don't understand."
"And what's the alternative?" Elias countered. "Wait for Ivanna to strike and hope for the best?"
The room erupted into heated debate, voices overlapping as tensions rose.
"Enough!" Caleb's voice cut through the chaos, commanding attention.
He stood at the head of the room, Elena by his side. Her presence was enough to spark more murmurs, but Caleb silenced them with a glare.
"We don't have the luxury of sitting back and doing nothing," he said firmly. "Ivanna is coming, whether we're ready or not. If this site holds answers, we need to find them."
"And what about her?" another pack member demanded, gesturing toward Elena. "She's the reason Ivanna's after us in the first place."
Elena stiffened, but Caleb stepped in front of her protectively.
"She's also the reason we have a chance to fight back," he said, his voice cold. "If anyone has a problem with that, they can take it up with me."
The room fell silent, the weight of Caleb's words sinking in.

Unseen Eyes
As the pack slowly dispersed, Elena couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. She glanced over her shoulder, but the room was empty save for Caleb and Elias.
"You're handling this better than I expected," Elias said, smirking at Caleb.
"Don't push it," Caleb muttered.
Elena turned to them, her unease growing. "Do you think it's possible Ivanna already knows about the site?"
Caleb frowned. "It's possible. But if she does, she hasn't made her move yet."
Elena nodded, though the thought did little to ease her nerves. As they left the meeting hall, she couldn't help but wonder how much longer they could hold out against the storm that was coming.
