She was thankful for the ride. But, Emily won't let her alone.
"Who was that man? The one who stopped you from running? You looked terrified of him. What's wrong?"
Zara sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I don't know, Emily. He… he was intimidating. Powerful. There was something about him that made my skin crawl."
"Skin crawl or skin blush, huh? That man is really an eye-candy", Emily just can't let her dwell on her revelation tonight. "Those eyes… that jawline… I could practically drool."
Zara chuckled despite herself. "He was certainly… attractive. But there was something else about him, something… predatory."
"Predatory?" Emily frowned. "You make him sound like an animal."
"I don't know," Zara admitted, feeling a shiver run down her spine. "It's hard to explain. He seemed to know more about me than I knew about myself. And that scared me."
"Well, why were you afraid? Did he say anything strange? Did he… threaten you?"
Zara hesitated, remembering Zane's intense gaze, the way he seemed to see right through her. "He just… he knew things. Things I didn't even know myself."
Emily's curiosity was piqued. "Like what?"
Zara shook her head, trying to dismiss the unsettling feeling. "Nothing important. Just… a strange feeling."
She tried to change the subject, but Emily was relentless. "Come on, Zara, spill the beans! What did he say? Did he tell you he is a spy or what?"
Zara finally relented. "He said… he said I'm a werewolf. Can you believe that?"
Emily chuckled. "You are a werewolf? How did he know? Is he an alpha or what?"
Zara nodded,"I know, right? Like it was a real thing".
"Why? You don't believe werewolf exist?" Emily asked nonchalantly. Eyes still fixed on the road.
Zara looked at her friend, her eyes filled with uncertainty. "I don't know, Em. I don't know what to believe anymore. Wait... You don't seem to be shocked about this". She looks at her friend, who didn't even surprised about this whole werewolf thing. If she was driving, she would be shocked and make a sudden stop.
"Actually, this is not my first time hearing about werewolf. And, I have known a few werewolf before. That's why I worked at the bar. They tip handsomely", she said, grinning sheepishly.
"Are you not afraid of their kind? How can you be so nonchalant about this whole thing?
"Well, it was because they are really nice, and .... hot, baby",
"Nice you said? More like savage and terrifying to me", Zara shuddered, remembering Zane gazes on her.
"Well, I would use the word masculine and manly. Wait until one of them kiss you, you will forget how to describe them", Emily gives Zara a winks.
"You dirty whore", Zara chuckled at Emily, giving her a punch.
At least, her jokes had made her forget about her predicament for a while.
Suddenly, Emily slammed on the brakes, the car screeching to a halt. Zara lurched forward, her seatbelt digging into her shoulder. "Hey, what was that?"
"I don't know!" Emily gasped, her eyes wide with fear. Her head hit the steering. "Something… something was in the road!"
There is a smoke coming at the front of the car, with a smell of burning tyres. Looking straight ahead, Zara can see a silhouette is moving towards them.
"What's next, huh?" Zara mumbled to herself.
"Emily, lock the door", Zara felt uneasy.
