I sat there, legs crossed, as I was looking at the weird items before my eyes. " Is it ok if I touch it?" I said, still fixing my glare to the items.
I had have time to further examinate the scene I found myself in after waking up.
The flying monsters that had nearly devoured me were now but dead body. But what I hadn't noticed at first was that two of them were slashed apart while the other, maybe the one who broke my arm judging by its position, was severely injured in the back near the base of its wings.
The only explanation I could come up with was that they had been slashed by the new ... tools?... that had appeared in the cave.
The orb, appart from glowing with the same hypnotic red light that seemed so familiar to me, looked inoffensive. I couldn't say as much of the two other items though.
At first, I had thought they were simple rings - just a little bigger than normal rings - glowing red. But maybe it wasn't that simple.
In fact they were more akin to... like... ring-shaped blades ? But their color was so intense, slightly glowing, It was had to say it was a blade.
The tools were difficult to describe, but it looked like they were weapons after all.
'What a weird weapon though' I thought. There were nowhere on the weapon I could grab without risking to have my fingers cut since it was basically entirely a blade. In addition, it looked pretty heavy since it had managed to pierce through the ground and, hypothetically, through the beasts that were now lying on the ground.
However, despite all the mystery around the weapons, I felt a kind of attraction toward them. It seemed to me like I had already seen them, that I was even pretty used to them. I couldn't just ignore them.
I made some tests to be sure it wouldn't arm me if I touched them. I threw small rocks on them, before putting my scarf on it. But except for them to glow a little more intensively - especially when in contact with the scarf - there were no reaction.
Gavering enough courage, I then slowly moved my finger toward one of the weapons - the two of them being at a certain distance appart from each other.
When I finally reached for it, its glow intensified, this time brighter than with the scarf. "Waaa!!" I left, out of surprise, promptly lifting my arm back.
As if to react to my surge of emotions, the blades started rotating with high speed and flying all over the cave, Cushing the ground and the walls of the cave.
"What the..." I screamed as I was trying to avoid the blades that had hypothetically slashed the winged beasts.
I wasn't fast enough though. The blades hadn't yet managed to hit me but I knew it was but a matter of time.
"Shit" I left as I was thinking of a way to dodge, but it was already too late. One of the weapons was to my left, just inches from my eyes. 'I can't avoid that!'
I just closed my eyes, hoping I could survive the impact, even with half my face gone.
Time seemed to be slowing down as I was waiting for the impact. But it never happened. Without further thoughts, I stepped back, then slowly opened my eyes to see what happened.
I had imagined maybe I had stopped the weapon mid air or something, but it wasn't the case. The two weapons were still turning around with high speed as if nothing had happened.
'Could it be that it just changed direction before the impact?', I thought before realising I was still in danger.
'Think... Think... Think... How can you get out of this?'. I was moving not far from the lit zone, figuring staying in the same position wouldn't be the best choice in the situation.
' what if I try to break the red orb' I thought. It was only then though that I realised the orb were nowhere to be seen.
" Wha... Where has it gone!" I screamed, barely avoiding the blade that was threatening to take my leg.
A thought suddenly came to my mind, a realisation. " Why is the ground glowing brighter wherever I go?". I could see it but still, I hadn't realised until then.
Still moving and trying to avoid the assaults, the one I could see coming that is, I turned my glare to my back finally seeing the red orb floating just above me. 'looks like it is following me wherever I go.
I lift my arm, scheming to crush the orb ignoring the blade that was coming at me again.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you" a voice said, nonchalantly but still caring a strong pressure within it.
Surprised, I immediately stopped my arm mid air and lift the other to try and block the blade coming.
"Don't close your eyes again, look at it you dummy!", the deep voice said again, cutting me off as I was about to close my eyes again.
The weapon reached for my hand. It had took every hint of courage I had to keep my eyes opened despite the fear but in the end, I was happy I did so.
I couldn't believe it. My mind was searching for an explanation for what I had just witnessed but couldn't find anything.
I stopped moving, standing there and glaring at the blades moving all over the cave. "Haha, maybe that was really a dream after all ! Seriously, how is something like that even possible? What the heck is this world I've found myself in?" I whispered, as my lips curved up. This time, both of the blades were coming at me.
"I've no reason to be alarmed anymore" I said, lifting both arms.
Just seconds ago the blade that was rotating with high speed, coming straight to my my hand, the same blade I assumed had cut the monsters to pieces, the same blade that was cutting the ground with such ease, this same blade... had just rebounded upon contact with my hand. I had felt nothing but a soft warmth in my palm.
" Well, looks like I've got two new weapons" I added, holding firmly the two ring-shaped blades I had just managed to grab with bare hands.
