Emily's mind was racing as she tried to process the mysterious woman's words. "What do you mean, 'welcome to the game'?" she asked, trying to keep her tone neutral.
The woman's laughter sent shivers down Emily's spine. "You'll find out soon enough, Detective. Just remember, the truth is not always what it seems. And sometimes, the only way to uncover it is to play the game."
With that, the woman hung up, leaving Emily staring at her phone in confusion.
Ryan, who had been watching the exchange, raised an eyebrow. "What was that all about?" he asked.
Emily shook her head. "I'm not sure. But I think we're in over our heads."
As they left the warehouse, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She glanced over her shoulder, but saw nothing.
"Let's get back to the precinct and review the case files," Ryan suggested. "Maybe we can find some connection between the mysterious woman and the murder."
Emily nodded, her mind already racing with possibilities.
But as they walked, Emily noticed something strange. A small piece of paper on the ground, with a single word scrawled on it: "Eclipse".
She picked it up, feeling a chill run down her spine.
"What is it?" Ryan asked, noticing her expression.
Emily showed him the paper. "I think we're getting closer to the truth," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
