Chapter 2 - Memories

Singe wakes up wet. 'Oh what a great way to start the day' she thought to herself, getting up from under the tree. The fire was out thanks to the rain. She picked up her bag and looked for the book. Thankfully, it was not wet, so she quickly put it back into her bag. She started to walk down the part that led to the fallen kingdom upon her arrival to the area she spotted people on horses quickly galloping some where, wait a minute they were coming towards her with swords!?. Panic quickly filled her body, she swallowed thickly and started to run, she ran to the forest as quick as she humanly could her heart racing in her chest she could swear she could hear it in her ears, she dodged the branches of the trees as best as she can, some of the branches with pickers cutting her. Still, she ignored the slight pain & continued to run until finally she could not run anymore her legs finally gave up as she tried to stop herself from falling, blood was running down her sides the pain feeling like it spreading to every fiber of her body, she hisses in pain as she tried to continue to run or walk at least, she can hear the horses getting closer, tears start to swell up in her eyes she tried to push herself more, the pain stopping her as everything got cloudy, the sight of strange people crowding around her was the last thing she saw.

The darkness was back again, but this time, it felt more lonely, more unforgiving. She could feel the freezing touch of the wind accompanied by this wind carried the sound of people's cries of terror her vision was the last thing that came back to her, the first thing she saw was the golden flame of a fire spreading faster than her eyes can see the fire consume the surrounding area the second thing she saw was blood a lot of it along with it was swords laying on the floor she continues she look around "LOOK OUT!" Someone screams before she can react. A sword goes through her stomach, eyes fill with surprise as tears flow down her cheeks. Her abdomen burned as she choked on her spit and blood. She fell to the ground as the sword was pulled out of her, and her sense was quickly lost.

She wakes up in a cold sweat in a sitting position.

She looked around the room confused about where she was, she heard something from behind her swiftly she turned around and there stood a young woman about Singe's age she looked human but with pointy ears and sharp fangs "You awake! Thank the heavens" she said shifting awkwardly, singe look at her before e a word the lady spoke again "right you must be wondering where you are at" she said taking a deep breath "you're at the village of Dewhurst, our guards found you wandering about the remains of Kalvant" she explained. Singe remains quiet. She looks at the lady in amazement. This was the first time she saw another person. The lady looked at her, waiting for Singe to say anything. When she didn't she spoke again "Our guards want to talk to you, I will leave your clothes on the bed, please come downstairs when you have finished changing" With that, the woman left the room leaving the clothes on the bed. Singe looked at the lady as she left.

She looked around the room. It was almost empty with only a bed and a dresser. She looked down at the clothes, placed in front of her a plain simple white dress she quickly put it on and went downstairs. Upon going downstairs, she was met with two armed guardians the emblem was that of a current moon, and flowers covering part of it along with the two guards was the lady from this morning "Good day singe" one of the guards said his voice was rough singe look at them in surprise how did they know her name, "you must be wondering what you are doing here, well to put it simply we are arresting you" the other guard said more gently? No, it was not gentle. It was scary but with a mask of kindness. "arresting me?" Singe asked she didn't know what the word meant "Yes arresting you for trespassing on Kalvent and for unlicensed magic on government property" the scary guard said "You can either come with us for further discussion or we will take you with force" The rough sounding guard says.

Singe decided to follow them. She was confused about what was going on, but she was not stupid enough to go against two sacred people with weapons. When they reached the guard tower, which was a two-story grey cobblestone building, you could see where some of the stone had begun to chip from the forces of nature along with overgrown plants. When they entered the building, the smell of wet carpet and blood quickly overwhelmed Singe's senses, though it didn't seem to bother the two guards. The guards dragged her to the backroom and put her to sit on a hard wooden chair. The only light source in the dark and small room was a small candle in the middle of the table.

"Who are you?" The rough guard questioned her, "S-singe" Singe answered nervously

"Now Singe, who are you?"

the guard questioned her, Singe looked at him, not answering

"answer the question, who are you?"

"Where are you from?"

"What are you?"

The guard rapidly questioned Singe, leaving her stumbling on her words

"I don't know" she blurts out

"what do you mean you don't know"

"I just do n-"

"That's not an answer," the guard said, groaning, "Go take your break, I can handle her" Singe was surprised she had forgotten that she was there. As the rough guard leaves the room leaving Singe and this other guard alone
