Fragrant Water County, Emerald Bay Province, Garuda Country
Ranga is a freelance construction worker.
This young man, born in a remote village in Fragrant Water County, was forced to try his luck in the urban city because in his native rural area he was unemployed and had no job.
A prolonged drought hit his hometown, a rural farming village near the edge of the province, far from the reach of any big city, a place so insignificant that even the author is too lazy to think of its name.
The rice fields there are no longer productive, and since the Landlords and Loansharks who hold the power in the rural area are also adding to the suffering of the small peasants who have fallen into poverty and are trapped in debt here and there, a lot of farmer have lost their earnings and livelihood.
And Ranga is no exception in this suffering.
When he is young and capable with his work in the rice fields, he is very lucky as he managed to marry the most beautiful woman in the village whose name is Maya when he is in his twenty.
Back then, Maya is a beautiful maiden who is 2 years younger than Ranga, she have just reached 18 when the man take her hand in marriage.
Similar to Ranga, Maya also comes from a humble family, although hers can't be said to be poor, they are not rich either.
Although the live that awaits them in the urban city is also not clear, but Ranga push himself to brought is wife with him to go there as living in the rural village seems as bleak as the bottom of a pot and kettle.
Even though he is poor, but as a man he is ashamed if he is always burdening his own parents and in-laws who are also live in poverty due to the drought.
Once more, his efforts didn't disappoint him, his luck seems to be shining again as he managed to secure a job not long after he arrived at the city together with his wife Maya.
He managed to get to know a Big Boss from construction works through his fellow friends from the village who used to work for the Boss right after they graduate from high school.
Ranga becomes a construction worker, and he learns everything that must be known about his works to the best of his capability.
Ranga works hard and his beloved wife also always supporting him by giving him tender cares and affection after a hard day of work.
Even then, Ranga is from satisfied of his current life.
His job schedule is not fixed, all depends on how much work and orders that his Boss received from his connections.
With a modest income, of course Ranga and Maya's life in the tough city was still full of hardships.
The economic difficulties were increasingly felt after Maya gave birth to her first child, exactly two years after they moved to the city.
Ranga also struggled even harder to support his family which had grown in number.
(Author's Note: That's why if you are not yet established in life, don't get married too soon, you are looking for your own torture, aren't you? :p)
Ranga is actually very lucky to have a beautiful and broad-hearted wife like Maya.
The woman is very patient and also willing to fully understand the hardships that they experienced together.
She never complained, let alone demanded anything from her husband.
Even though she was unable to do much to help her husband, Maya continued to motivate her husband to be patient and not be tempted to take the wrong path in overcoming their hard life.
However, luck could not be achieved, misfortune could not be avoided.
The situation turned out to be increasingly difficult after the company where Ranga worked went bankrupt.
With that, Ranga lost his only livelihood.
And with limited capabilities as just a high school graduate, it was clear that he will have difficulty finding a new job in the big city.
In desperation, Ranga tries to took a shortcut.
One day, when he was hanging out with his friends who were also unemployed.
While chatting, his friend told him about a Pesugihan (a ritual that is believed to give the one who held it an abundant wealth).
From just being curious, Ranga started to get interested in the story.
He invited his friend to join him in the ritual.
Although interested, his friend refused to do it.
He was afraid because the requirements were very strict.
Likewise, there are also consequences that must be borne if the requirements are not met.
Not to mention remembering that this kind of method where you are practically selling yourself to a Demon is a path that is condemned by religion.
However, Ranga, who was at a loss, still insisted on trying it.
"Religion? Can religion be used to eat? Can money fall from the sky if I pray to the God?" That was what was implied in Ranga's mind, who had begun to fall down a hopeless path.
His friend who had tried to remind him was unable to do anything, they can only regret telling him about such a story.
Finally, after being forced by Ranga, one of his friend then told him how to do the ritual, which is called the Demonic Grotto Ritual.
The ritual must be done by worshiping an Ancient Demon named Aggihda.
The place of ritual is said to be in a remote cave on the border of Fragrant Water County and Sparkling Mango County, in the middle of Crimson Flame Mountain Range.
With the excuse of looking for work, Ranga said goodbye to his wife to go out of town for a few days.
He left his wife and children with his trusted friends.
With a pounding heart, Ranga met the caretaker of the place on the night of Friday 13th to ask for instructions and guidance in carrying on the ritual.
Before doing that, just like his friend had done, the caretaker reminded Ranga of all the consequences that he had to accept.
