Chereads / The Western Boarder 1: When They Met / Chapter 3 - Amera's Little Secret

Chapter 3 - Amera's Little Secret

I was pacing back and forth on my front porch, checking my watch for the fifth time when the porch light on the far end went out. "Damn. I'll have fix that in The morning." It was already a quarter past seven. I was beginning to wonder if she couldn't get away from her mom. Or worse, maybe she decided not to come. Light snow flurries had begun to fall, so I started to go back inside when I heard the sound of footsteps on the far end of the porch where the light went out. My heart thumped faster as I saw the outline of some animal. It looked like a wolf. But it was huge.

"Sorry I'm late." Amera's voice came from the darkness. I shined a light from my mobile phone and saw it was her. "Ow! Could you lower the light please?" She asked blocking the light with her hand. I put my mobile away as she walked over to me. she was dressed in a white light coat with a matching hat. She still wore the same slippers though. And I could see that without the lenses her eyes were brown.

"Sorry with the porch light out over there I thought you were a wolf or something." I explained.

She smiled and shrugged. "Just me."

"So, how are you this evening?"

She took my hand. "I'm good now."

"What happened before?" I asked half kidding and half curious.

"My sister returned last night. she's what Mama calls 'The obedient one.' She was keeping an eye out for me. So I had to leave in the opposite direction and circle back. That's why I took so long getting here. Sorry." She leaned against one of the beams to the porch as she finished.

"That's ok. But I didn't realize you had to go through so much. I hope you don't get into trouble on my account."

She leaned in really close. "Don't worry about it. I pull this crap all the time. Mama just doesn't like it when I go into town."

"Fair enough. So, what do you want to do?" I asked.

She looked puzzled for a minute. "I don't know. I'm never really been about the town. I'm always passing through at best. Well except on Halloween."

"Ok, how about a movie?" I asked.

"A what?" Her puzzled look switched to completely dumbfounded.

"Well you're in for a treat then. I'm thinking comedy. But then again this is you first move so maybe a family flick to start you off." I pulled out my mobile again and started searching the Internet for movie times.

She leaned in so close I began to blush. "I've never seen one of these magical boxes up close before."

"Ok. Seriously, what planet are you from?" I asked wondering how she could not know what a mobile phone was.

"Earth. How about you?" She retorted in a classic smartass fashion my mother would have loved and respected.

"You've lived a very sheltered life, haven't you?"

She smiled and shrugged again. "Pretty much. Yeah."

Once I picked a movie for us I took her to the greatest establishment this town had to offer. The mall. You should have seen her eyes dart around from shop to shop eyeing their wares as though seeing them for the first time. It was almost like looking through the eyes of a child. "Oh wow! This is a lot like the market my papa took me too when I was little. Only it's indoors." I took her to Jackie Frost's. It was a restaurant in the eatery that sold chicken and burgers mostly. We ordered some chicken but she was a bit surprised when it arrived at our table. "Myer, what's all this hard stuff around the meat?"

"That's the breading." I explained. "I guess your mom doesn't make fried food?"

"She did when Papa was alive." She had such a sad look on her face.

"Oh. I'm sorry. When did he pass?"

"When I was little. It was my fault." She cried.

Damn it! Now I did it. "I'm sorry."

"It ok. It's not your fault. You didn't know." She said through her tears as she took my hand. We both enjoyed our meal then made it just in time to catch the movie. In the end we saw a super hero flick. I loved it, but she jumped when the previews popped up on the screen.

"You ok?" I asked.

"Yes. It just started me." She reassured me. "How did all those people get so big?"

I shrugged. I was starting to get used to her strange questions by now. And when you think about it, it kinda made sense since she lived out in the woods. "I'll tell ya on the way home."

"Ok."

On the walk home I asked her a question that had been building in my mind all night. "Amera, does your mom keep you prisoner or something?"

She looked shocked at the very idea. "What!? No. Nothing like that. She's just not fond of people. I can go anywhere but into town."

I thought about it for a moment and figured why her mom might not like people so much. "I get it. Some people can be cruel. They bully, steal. . ." I had a lump in my throat as I added "kill. But if you look hard enough I think you'll find there are just as many good people as bad."

She smiled. "You really think so?"

"Hell yeah." I may have said that a little too enthusiastically. I walked her over to a little secluded spot in the park. " You found me right? I found you. You seem like a really good person. And you've met Julio. Don't let all the flirting fool you. Deep down he's a great guy. Hell, he was one of the reasons I was at the party last night. I have a few other friends you'd like. And I'm sure they'd like you. Then there's Nicole. She helped my mom a lot after my dad left. She's the one who helped Julio get me out of my room after my mom died."

"They're kinda like your pack?." She asked. That was a little strange.

"Really leaning into the whole wolf thing, huh?" I teased.

"It's just how we were raised. That and stay out of town and you'll stay out of trouble."

"But you don't seem to mind getting into trouble "

She leaned forward towards me and grinned. "Somethings are worth getting into a little trouble for." She winked at me.

Now she was only a few inches from me. It became hard to swallow and my heart started to race. What was it about this girl? She was very strange but very enticing.

"Can you introduce me?" She asked suddenly.

"Huh?"

"To your friends I mean. Can you introduce me to them?"

Realization dawned on me. "Oh. Yeah. Of course."

Then she grabbed both of my hands. "Myer your hands are so cold." Her hands were pretty warm despite the fact that she wasn't wearing any gloves and she never put her hands in her pockets. She pulled me closer and wrapped her arms around me. She was surprisingly strong.

Had I been in a better mood last night I might have noticed how huge her bust was. I was pressed firmly against it and there was still some distance between our faces. My heart was pounding being so close to her and looking into her beautiful brown eyes. "W-what are you doing?" I asked nervously.

"Trying to warm you up, silly." She said it as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"Because my hands were cold?" I asked.

"Of course. Why? Are you uncomfortable?" She started to look a little worried.

I thought about it for a moment and you know what? "Nope not at all. In fact forget I said anything. Thanks Amera." Then I wrapped my arms around her returning the embrace. She smiled and leaned her head against my chest.

I closed my eyes enjoying the moment.

Then suddenly without warning she lifted her head quickly and banged into my chin.

"Damn! That hurt." I rubbed my chin and looked back at her.

Her hat had fallen to the ground. Her hair flowed gently in the wind. She was giving me puppy dog eyes. "I'm sorry. Please don't be mad." She looked so cute right now.

I laughed a little.

"What's so funny?" She asked with a little anger in her tone.

"Sorry. It's just that I'm not mad. Why would I be? It was an accident, right?" I tried to sound reassuring.

" Yes. And I'm very sorry."

"If you want to make it up to me, you could always kiss it and make it feel better." I was joking of course.

To which she replied "Ok." She tilted her head up and leaned towards me.

Oh my God. Full disclosure, I have never been kissed before.

She took my hands again. I closed my eyes and waited. She raised her lips towards my chin. . .

And licked it.

"Well. That was different." I said a little confused.

"What?" She asked equally confused.

"You just licked me on the chin." I explained.

"Oh! You're right. Here. Let me try again." Before I could say anything, she grabbed my head and pulled my face closer. My heart was running a mile a minute as our lips got closer and closer and finally. . .

She licked my lips. Yeah.

"Better?" She asked.

"I'm guessing this is your first time with a boy."

"Well I have a brother, but he left a long time ago." She answered.

"No. I mean like dating a guy." I explained.

"This is my first time in serious courtship with a. . . Well with you."

I wasn't even gonna comment on that one, but I rolled with it. I was however nervous about this next part. "Would you like me to show you how it's done?"

"Sure." She said.

We embraced again and I leaned my head down towards her. My heart still pumping hard. I got closer and I could see the intrigue in her eyes. I closed my eyes as our lips connected.

She suddenly squeezed me. Our lips pressed tighter as she seemed to get the idea and pressed her lips to mine.

I felt light headed and when we finally pulled a way she had a look of ecstasy on her face.

"Oh wow." She said a little out of it.

"Yeah wow." I replied as equally out of it. She was looking at me with desire now. And I couldn't help it I was looking at her the same way. That perfect smile. The way her hair flowed in the wind. Those big yellow eyes. The way her wolf ears twitched. Wait a second. Yellow eyes? Wolf ears? "What the Hell?" Then I saw the tail

"What's the matter?" She asked.

I reached out to touch one of her ears. It twitched when I touched it. "OH DAMN!"

"Oh no!" She said scooping up her hat and shoving it on her head.

I held up my hands. "Ok. Ok. Let's calm down and talk this out. Then we heard footsteps. Without thinking I grabbed her hand and we rushed back to my place. "Sorry about that. I didn't hurt you, did I?"

"No. But Myer are you going to tell anyone?" She asked nervously.

"About your ears? No, but I would like an explanation. But maybe we should go up to my room."

"Agreed." She followed me in.

As we both entered the living room, we found Nicole standing by the stairs. "Welcome home Myer. And who's this?" She asked with a mischievous grin.

"Oh, this is. . ." I started not sure what to say.

"Hello. I'm Amera." Thank God she took her human form again.

"Oh! The girl you met at the party Myer? Well it's definitely nice to meet you. Hi, I'm Nicole."

Amera gave her a charming smile. "Please to meet you Nicole."

"I was about to take and show Amera my room." I explained.

"Mhmm. . ." Nicole gave me a bit of a scowl. "Alright. But. . ."

I finished for her. "No hanky-panky. I know."

"And quit being a smartass." Then she turned back to Amera. "It was a pleasure to meet you Amera." Then she went into the kitchen.

As we made our way upstairs Amera stopped me. "Myer, what does hanky-panky mean?"

"Oh she was talking about us having sex." I told her.

"Wait! Does she think I would. . ." She growled like a wolf.

"No. Somehow I think she expects me to Initiate any sexy fun time. But don't worry I'm not."

"Wait! Why not? Is it because I'm so different?" She asked as we entered my room. She sat on my bed as I turned the chair from my desk around and sat in that.

"No. Not cause you're different. It's cause I don't know if I like you like that. We just met last night."

"Oh yeah." Then she smiled. "So you'll still court with me?"

I shrugged. " I don't really see why not. How many guys can say they're dating a were. . ."

"It is really important to the future of our relationship that you do not finish that sentence." She said almost growling at me.

"I'm sorry. So you don't like being called a were. . . The other thing? Maybe you can explain. I mean you're not quite human, are you?"

She removed the hat and let her ears and tail pop out again. "No. I'm a kind of magical Wolf. It's a bit complicated. My family are all Wolves. But we can take human form. The form you see now is what we call our Fur form."

"But when your hat fell off earlier I couldn't see your ears or tail. And your eyes were brown."

"Oh! That's because we have to concentrate a little extra to look completely human. I've trained myself to be able to concentrate even when I'm in pain. That's why you didn't see them even when I hit my head."

"Ok so what broke your concentration?" I asked being a bit curious.

Here she got all bashful and batted her eyelashes.

Then it dawned on me. "OH! Was it that good? Because it was my first time kissing a girl."

"Mine as well. But I definitely enjoyed it." She stood up and walked over to me. "Very much so."

"But could you and I have a relationship? I mean would we even be able to have kids one day?"

"Oh yes. My papa was human." She replied.

"So you're half human?" I asked.

"No. Not exactly. It's very complicated."

"Ok. Maybe next time then. So you can do magic?"

"Well yes. All of my race can. Each of us is tied to an element. I can use wind magic."

Now she really peeked my curiosity. "Wind magic?"

"Would you like to see?" She asked clapping her hands together.

Getting up I answered "Sure I love a good magic show."

She started to look around the room. "Ok something small." Then she walked over to my desk and grabbed some papers from my printer and laid them on the bed. "Ok. Now watch this." She held out her hands and the papers began to flap. Then suddenly without warning the mattress flipped over making such a racket. "Oh no! I'm so sorry."

I stood up in amazement. Then we heard Nicole's footsteps coming up the stairs. "Quick put your hat back on." I whispered.

She slipped the hat on just as the door opened.

"Is everything alright in here?" Nicole asked as she entered. Then she saw the state of the bed and looked me in disappointment.

"It was my fault. I'm afraid I'm a little bit of a clutz." Amera answered before I could say anything.

"Well as long as you're ok." Nicole looked her up and down.

"I'm good thanks. Sorry about that." Amera with her charming smile once again.

Then Nicole looked at me. "Myer look, I know you're a consenting adult now. And I really can't stop. . . "

I cut her off. "Nicole, it's really not like that. Not yet."

"It's getting late. Can I see you again tomorrow?" Amera asked more cheerily.

"Definitely. I want to hear more about you and your folks."

Then Nicole chimed in. "Why not invite her to dinner tomorrow then?"

I nodded. "That's a great idea."

"Ok. I'll try to make it." Amera said gleefully. "That sounds fun."

"Hey Nicole, would it be ok to invite some friends? I kinda promised to introduce her to them."

"Gonna put me to work? Huh boss?" She teased.

I walked Amera to the door and Nicole followed us. At the door I kissed Amera deeply.

"Damn Myer!" Nicole exclaimed.

"I-I'll see you tomorrow." It was a good thing she had the hat on, because her tail popped out. Fortunately I was positioned between it and Nicole.

"See ya tomorrow." I said as she left. I watched as she walked towards the trail to the mountain.

When I returned to the living room Nicole was sitting on the couch with the widest grin I ever saw. "She seems nice."

"I'm going to bed." And I went to bed.
