Chapter 2 - Chapter 2:Rebirth

"Whatever the cost, just let me out of here!" Cain shouted desperately.

The mysterious voice chuckled coldly. "Very well, as you wish."

In the next moment, Cain felt his very soul being torn apart. Something cold, alien, and unrelenting invaded his essence, fusing with his consciousness. He tried to scream but found himself spiraling back into oblivion.

When he regained consciousness, he was lying on the freezing ground of Black Mountain, alone. The air was still bitterly cold, and the barren terrain stretched endlessly around him.

He didn't understand what had happened, but the fact that he was alive was enough for now. Cautiously, he began his descent, taking care to avoid the patrolling guards. His every step was deliberate and silent. Eventually, he slipped past the security perimeter and made his way to a hidden path leading away from the prison.

But now he was lost.

The nearest city was over 100 kilometers away, and with no food, water, or clear direction, Cain knew this was just the beginning of his ordeal.

The freezing wind bit into his skin as Cain trudged through the desolate landscape. His stomach growled incessantly, and his legs felt like lead. The barren wilderness offered no solace—only jagged rocks and an unyielding sky.

Hours passed. Fatigue blurred his vision, and hunger gnawed at his resolve. The horizon was endless, and with nightfall rapidly approaching, Cain's situation grew dire.

He had to find shelter. Without it, the cold would claim him by morning.

Then, in the distance, a faint light flickered. Hope surged through his chest as he stumbled toward it, pushing his failing body onward.

The light led him to a small, decrepit wooden cabin. Its walls leaned precariously, and the roof was patched with mismatched planks. Still, it was a lifeline.

Cain knocked on the door, his knuckles weakly rapping against the wood. A moment later, the door creaked open, revealing a large, muscular man with wary eyes. The man studied Cain for a moment, then slammed the door shut without a word.

Cain's heart sank, but before despair could set in, the door opened again. This time, a lean man with a friendly smile appeared.

"Sorry about my friend," the lean man said warmly. "He's a bit... cautious. Please, come in."

Cain stepped inside, grateful for the warmth of the fire crackling in the center of the room. His relief was short-lived, though.

The cabin was cramped, with five other occupants. Two were men, including the lean man who had invited him in, and three were women. The women sat huddled together in a corner, their faces pale and their eyes wide with unease. Cain immediately sensed that something was off.

The lean man remained cheerful, offering Cain a steaming bowl of meat and a cup of warm water. Starving, Cain hesitated for only a moment before digging in. The meat was tough and had a peculiar taste, but he didn't care—he needed the energy.

"Thank you," Cain said between bites. "What kind of meat is this?"

The lean man's smile twisted into something sinister. "Oh, that?" he said, pointing to the far corner of the cabin. "It's his."

The lean man gestured toward a cloth draped in the corner of the room. With a sinister grin, the muscular man stepped forward and yanked it away, revealing a corpse beneath. The body lay eerily still, its right leg was missing.

Horror churned in his stomach as he spat out the half-chewed meat. "NO! NO!!" his voice trembling with disbelief and disgust

Before he could react further, the muscular man from earlier stepped behind him, a heavy weapon in hand. With a sickening thud, the weapon struck Cain's head, and the world went black.

When Cain came to, his head throbbed, and his arms and legs were bound tightly with frayed ropes. He was seated against the cabin wall, unable to move.

"Ah, you're awake," the lean man said, his tone dripping with mockery. "I hope you're not too upset. It's nothing personal, you see—it's just bad luck on your part."

"Why are you doing this?" Cain demanded, his voice raw with anger and disbelief.

"Survival," the lean man said matter-of-factly. "There's no game to hunt out here, and the beasts would tear us apart before we could even think of fighting them. So we make do."

Disgust churned in Cain's gut. These people weren't just killers—they were cannibals. They had tricked him into eating human flesh, into becoming complicit in their vile acts.

Before he could respond, a deep, guttural howl pierced the night air. The sound was primal and filled with rage, sending a shiver through everyone in the cabin.

The men exchanged panicked glances. "Damn it," the muscular one muttered, rushing to extinguish the fire.

The lean man crouched near Cain, his sinister grin replaced by genuine fear. "Well," he said, his voice trembling slightly, "let's hope they don't find us."

Outside, the howls grew louder, accompanied by the heavy thuds of something massive approaching.

Cain's heart raced as the cabin plunged into darkness. The creatures outside were closing in, and he was tied up, defenseless.

But then, deep inside his mind, Cain heard a voice—a voice that wasn't his.

The tone was sharp and full of venom. "Come on, Cain. Kill them! They don't deserve to live."

Cain froze, his whole body stiff. Am I losing it? He struggled to stay calm. "Who… who are you?"

The voice replied, cold and steady. "I… am you. Have you already forgotten? This is the price you paid."

Cain's breathing quickened, confusion taking over. The price? What did I do? But the sounds outside left no room for answers.

Sharp claws scraped against the wooden walls, sending shivers through the room. The monsters had arrived. Their talons scratched deep into the boards, the screeching sound mixed with low, guttural growls. It was enough to make everyone freeze with fear.

Panic spread through the small room. The strong man clutched his weapon tightly, sweat running down his pale face. The thin man cursed under his breath, eyes darting wildly. The women huddled together, trembling, their faces streaked with tears.

Suddenly, the wooden door shook violently.

With one final, deafening crash, the door shattered into pieces. A massive creature stood in the opening, its glowing eyes shining like fire in the darkness. Its low, rumbling growl filled the cabin, making the walls tremble.
