Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: A little tired

Today is a special (-ly annoying) type of day. Today is the celebration of Killian's 18th birthday and that's why all these little people are trying to get his attention. In this kingdom the crown Prince is the one who's normally the one who is pressured to marry since it's more important, but the other two are more likely to either be married for political benefit or if their able to before hand, choose their partner.

Killian won't have an issue finding one and I'm sure he'll find a great wife one day. His sister Kaitlyn however.... she's known to like a lot of guys at once but never actually asked them out. She just watches them from afar....I should know. While we're training off shift she likes to come by and watch....but the creepy thing is she'll hide behind a tree and just not think we can see her. Makes us self-conscious.

The crown Prince is normally by the king and Queen speaking to their political friends to I guess ease into the crowd. Pretty smart actually. People would be flocking to him if it weren't that he's already engaged to a Dukes daughter, Alaina. Sadly she couldn't come because she's on a trip to visit her mother for the week who lives in another kingdom. All this doesn't stop a few girls from thinking they could be his mistress. Entitled. It's never nice woman. Their smiles are always manipulative. Occasionally though Killian gets a few sweet ones still. He normally prefers those girls.

Right now I'm a few steps away from him and leaning against the wall as I observe the crowed. My motive detector is great for stuff like this as it helps me know if anyone plans to hurt the Royals. So far we haven't had a problem and since this isn't a foul mood, I doubt anything will happen.

Once most the girls leave Killian turns to me with a soft grin. "So, Elijah, any maiden catch your senses as special? All since I've known you you've never once had a girlfriend." He leans beside me after scooping up his cup from one of the white tables that sprinkled along the side of the ground room. Everything was either white, purple or gold. Even the guests dress in it an such. Killian was wearing a tuxedo with a dark purple base and gold rims and some swirly designs. He had white pants on and dark purple shoes. He looked great as always.

As the night buzzed on I could tell he was trying to be polite but was clearly being drained. That magnetic aura thing isn't always a blessing. I know he loves pleasing others but...it really takes a toll. He already has low social battery even if he does well not to show it. I always watch as his smiles become fainter and he talks less, but the girls never catch on. As I glance down I see his nails digging into his hand. Guess that's my que.

I stand straight and take a few steps till I'm behind him directly before placing my hand on his shoulder and smiling over his shoulders. "Excuse me my ladies, but his highness looks a little faint. I'm going to have to steal him for a bit. Hope you understand." One girl nods but frowns and the others look at me like I stole their puppy.

Killian doesn't resist as I pull him along up the stairs and to his room. We walk in and I shut the door and he sighs and plops down on his bed. "Thanks....I was getting a little drained in there..." He closed his eyes and relaxed against his bed. I step over and next to the bed. "Do you want me to tell them you not feeling well?" He sighs and opens his arms, turning his head towards me. "I wish....but it is my celebration...and they'd be disappointed. I'll just have to stick it out."

He turns his head again and looks at the ceiling with blank eyes. "...you know...you don't always have to make everyone else happy. Don't push yourself so hard to the point of damaging your thoughts because you want others to be happy..." He turns his head to me and studies my face before turning back to the ceiling. ".....I know. It's the only way I feel like I succeed..my purpose."

I grin, deciding to try and lift the mood a bit. "And you say I need a girlfriend?" He lets out a puff of air and smiles. "Yeah yeah whatever." He sits up with a faint smile, crisscrossed. He takes a deep breath before standing up. "Alright....let's head back. It'll only be a hour or two more. Plus...I got you by my side to keep me sane. Your like the only one I've talked to tonight that doesn't have an over scented perfume on." He chuckles and I do too. It's nice to see him feel comfortable. He looks so carefree when he's not crowded.

We make our way back downstairs and he's flocked again and he's back to his usual mood. Luckily by now some familys that came from afar have left because of their long journey home and you could actually see through the crowd now. Most people were seated and getting comfortable after all the standing and socializing and throughout the night a few adults came to Killian to introduce their daughters and such.

Technically same sex marriage is allowed in this kingdom but most noblemen aren't swinging that way, plus to get a heir they'd have to have a sergeant or a mistress and usually that's not something the parents want to get bundled into. So all night only 3 guys walked up to them and they were shy and awkward. It was actually kinda amusing watching them squirm to form sentences. Killian doesn't seem homophobic based on what I've learned he doesn't feel a certain way to anyone. I guess that's good news. Means there's a possibility he'd go for a guy. Ha.
