Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

....

Inside the dimly lit war room, the air was thick with tension. Roderick stood by the large stone table, his gaze distant, his thoughts clearly preoccupied. Elias sat across from him, his fingers steepled in front of his face as he watched his Alpha carefully.

"I don't like this, Roderick," Elias said, breaking the silence that had settled between them. His voice was low but edged with concern. "The vampires are moving too quickly. The tension is building. And now… Aria. We've never had this kind of pressure on us before."

Roderick didn't respond immediately, his mind racing as he processed the weight of the situation. Aria's newfound powers, the prophecy, and the vampire coven's increasing interest in her were all threads that tied together in a knot too tight to untangle easily. They were standing on the precipice of a war that could wipe out both their kind and the vampires.

"I know," Roderick finally said, his voice steady but tinged with frustration. "I can feel it too. The vampires aren't just after power anymore—they want her. And that's something I can't ignore."

Elias leaned back in his chair, the creaking of wood echoing in the otherwise quiet room. "We can't let them take her. Aria is far too valuable to them. You've seen it—the way they act around her. They won't stop until they have her under their control."

Roderick nodded slowly, his thoughts drifting to Aria. She was more than just a member of their pack now. She was the center of something much bigger—a force they barely understood. Her role in the prophecy, her growing powers—it all added up to something monumental. And for the first time in a long while, Roderick felt uncertainty creeping into his bones.

"We've tried to protect her, Elias. But no matter what we do, the vampires are always one step ahead," Roderick said, his jaw tightening. "And then there's Lucien…"

Elias raised an eyebrow. "Lucien? What does he have to do with any of this?"

Roderick's fists clenched at his sides. "He's become… unpredictable. He's not the same wolf who swore loyalty to me. He's been spending too much time with her, and I fear he's getting too close. I can't have him compromising Aria's safety—or the safety of this pack."

Elias leaned forward, studying Roderick closely. "You don't trust him anymore, do you?"

"I never wanted to doubt him," Roderick admitted, his voice quiet. "But lately, he's been acting strange. He's been defending her against all reason, and he's not the only one. Some of the others are starting to look at her differently. Like they see her as the answer to everything. But they don't understand the risks. Not like I do."

Elias let out a long sigh, leaning back in his chair once more. "The pack is starting to fracture. Not everyone believes in the old ways. Not everyone sees the threat that the vampires represent. They're blinded by the idea of Aria's power, thinking it's something we can control, that it will give us the upper hand."

Roderick's eyes narrowed, his hands resting on the table in front of him. "I can't let them get carried away. The power Aria holds is dangerous—more dangerous than anyone realizes. It's not something to be wielded lightly. If we let it spiral out of control, we'll lose everything."

Elias's gaze softened, and he stood from his chair, walking over to the large map of the surrounding territory spread out on the table. "You're right. But what are we supposed to do? We're caught between two enemies—our own pack members, who want to follow Aria, and the vampires, who are relentless in their pursuit of her."

Roderick clenched his jaw, his mind spinning with the possibilities. "We do what we've always done—we fight. We prepare for war."

Elias turned to face him, his expression somber. "You know it's not that simple. The vampires won't be satisfied with just one battle. They'll try to break us from the inside out, pick us apart piece by piece. And if Aria's in the middle of it—if she's caught between us and them—she'll be torn apart too."

Roderick's gaze darkened, his thoughts flashing to Aria's face. The weight of responsibility pressed down on him, more crushing than ever before. The pack was counting on him to lead them through this, to protect them all. But with Aria's power, the prophecy, and the looming war, he wasn't sure how much longer he could hold everything together.

"We need to protect her," Roderick said finally, his voice firm. "We keep her safe, even if it means risking everything. But we can't do it alone. We need every ally we can get, every wolf who still believes in us."

Elias nodded gravely. "Then we make our stand. And we make sure Aria knows what's at stake. She can't keep running from her destiny. She has to accept it, or we'll all be doomed."

Roderick's eyes hardened as he gazed out the window at the darkened forest beyond. "I know. I've been trying to prepare her. But she's still not ready. Not yet."

Elias raised an eyebrow. "She's a fighter, Roderick. She'll come around. She has to."

"I hope you're right," Roderick murmured, his voice tinged with a rare vulnerability. "Because if she doesn't… if she can't accept who she is, then all of this will be for nothing."

A heavy silence settled over the room, broken only by the distant howls of wolves echoing through the woods. The weight of their decisions lay on their shoulders, but there was no turning back now. The war was coming, and with it, Aria's fate would be sealed—whether she was ready or not.
