Synopsis

Seiritsu High School

Seiritsu Gakuen Kōtō Gakkō—also known simply as Seiritsu High School—is a prestigious educational academy located in the Setagaya district of Tokyo, Japan. Specifically, built next to Setagaya Maruyama Park within the Sangenjaya Ward.

Construction:

In 1980, the Tokyo ward office, in collaboration with the national government, offered a land purchase opportunity to local landowners in the Setagaya ward. These landowners were offered generous compensation in exchange for the sale of their properties, which enabled the ward office to purchase the land and clear it for the construction of a renowned educational institution in the area.

In addition to the generous compensation, the district office also committed to providing alternative living spaces for the displaced residents and providing job opportunities for the local community. The specific reasons for choosing this location were the easy access to transportation, as well as the potential for future community development.

With this munificent offer, the residents accepted the sale and the Seiritsu High School was built. Occupying an area of approximately 32,000 square meters.

Its expansion and establishment as a prestigious private institution in the Sangenjaya neighborhood involved acquiring another tract of land adjacent to the campus and transforming it into an educational center, for minors, in part of the Seiritsu Academy complex, called Seiritsu Gakuen Shōgakkō. However, it was later sold by the ...

As part of the construction and expansion efforts, the building owners worked to create a more secluded and tranquil environment within their facility. This included developing additional green areas and planting trees and foliage along the boundaries to provide a natural barrier from surrounding streets, including Kadome-dori—its goal was to establish a distinguished and serene campus atmosphere that would provide an escape from the bustling urban environment.

It was eventually founded in 1985 as a private school for girls. In 1993, it became a co-educational school; and the intercultural course began in 2015.

Academics:

Seiritsu High School would prioritize admission to students with strong academic records. This would include considering students' middle school grades, class rankings, and performance on standardized tests.

The school might also consider recommendations from teachers, principals, or other respected figures in the educational community—e.g., exceptional academic abilities, work ethic, or student leadership potential.

To assess the overall suitability of students for the school, Seiritsu High School conducts interviews as part of the admissions process. These interviews would allow the school to assess students' character, extracurricular involvement, and motivation to attend a prestigious institution.

Since Seiritsu High School admits international exchange students, a certain level of proficiency in Japanese and English should be required.

To maintain the exclusivity and prestige of the school, the academy has a limited number of openings available, which generates intense competition for admission.

Each year level—first year, second year and third year—has a total of fifteen classrooms. The numbering system follows the pattern:

● Freshman Year (First Year): Classrooms 1-1 to 1-5.

● Sophomore Year (Second Year): Classrooms 2-1 to 2-5

● Junior Year (Third Year): Classrooms 3-1 to 3-5

In principle, the school year begins in April and ends in March of the following year.

The high school schedule adopts a three-semester system, with the first semester running from April to August, the second semester from September to December, and the third semester from January to March.

There is also a summer vacation (from late July to late August), a winter vacation (from late December to early January) and a spring vacation (from late March to early April).

Dress Code:

The standard dress code for students is the traditional Japanese uniform—mentioned by the protagonist earlier in the story.

For male students it consists of a crisp white dress shirt with a high collar and long sleeves, paired with a navy blue blazer with the school emblem embroidered on the breast pocket and a matching tie with a subtle pattern. Paired with navy blue tailored pants with straight cut, black leather dress shoes and navy blue socks complete the ensemble.

The female students wear a similar blazer, but it consists of a white blouse with a Peter Pan collar and long sleeves, and a matching navy blue ribbon. Together with a knee-length navy blue skirt with a pleated design and black Mary Jane style shoes or loafers with navy blue socks complete the outfit.

The winter attire is exactly the same, but students have the option of wearing a navy blue/dark colored V-neck sweater over the shirt, also has an additional grey, navy blue, and cream colored long sleeve cardigan, and a navy blue scarf for insulation.

Both male and female students wear the same dark blue tracksuit with athletic shoes when participating in sports or other physical activities.
