The school Lin Jie went to was called Westlake Academy, a highschool for awakeners, all of its instructors being renowned and accompished awakeners.
The system focusing on combat skills, physical training and awakener essential information.
Due its high prestige and the status of the students and teachers, it took up its own part of the city, its star-steel buildings wide and tall.
"I missed the modern world,"
Lin Jie got off the bus and took in the architecture of the academy's entrance for a short bit.
[Alert! An attack is moving towards the host from behind!]
Sidestep!
Before even knowing what was going on, Lin Jie sidestepped and the assailant struck thin air. He looked around and found a blonde young man with gray eyes looking at him.
One of Lin Jie's bullies and the heir to [BlackShield Mancer], an enormous weapons conglomerate, Jake Mancer. His lavish clothes and the latest Ro*ls Royce he arrived in made his status obvious.
"Did you just dodge, loser?"
Jake frowned.
"What did it look like to you, loser?" Lin Jie replied.
"Disrespecteful bastard!"
"How dare you insult the young master?!"
His two bodyguards lashed out at Lin Jie. One green-haired and the other purple-haired, both dressed in military issue light armor. It wasn't really rare for students to have bodyguards in the school, all of the students had a special and sensitive status, with Lin Jie being the only exception.
{The doors are closing in 10…9..8..} The alert sounded.
"I'll see you later, Worm." Jake grinned and walked past Lin Jie.
Lin Jie walked in as well.
His power [Frost Zero] is high A-rank and lets him manipulate the cold freely, I should be careful..
After passing through checks and changing into light armor, Lin Jie arrived at his first class, Advanced Combat.
Held in a spacious gymnasium with gravity manpulation, all of the students were required to attend. While John was terrible at combat, Star-Knight Lin-Jie was a different story.
"Class A, line up!" The instructor was a bald muscle-head, Jent Vire, an A-Rank awakener.
The essentials were already engrained into the students, so the focus was combat experience instead. Of course, the classes restricted the use of powers, so technique was highlighted and even the lower ranked students had a shot at beating the geniuses.
"Macer, come forward," The teacher chose randomly. "Choose an opponent." He continued.
"Yes, sir."
Looking past all of the students, his eyes stopped on Lin Jie and he smiled.
"Drake." He pointed his finger at Lin Jie.
Lin Jie smiled and walked forward into the middle. The teacher obviously didn't like it from his expression, but he couldn't afford to offend jake, so he kept his mouth shut.
"Weapons?"
"Dagger."
"Sword." Lin Jie picked his specialty.
"To the middle. Let's keep the fight clean with no injuries." The teacher reminded them as a robotic arm rose out of the floor and handed esch of them a weapon.
Extremely dull steel weapons that served to minimize the damage, though the healers on standby could heal pretty much anything anyways.
Lin Jie and Jake faced each other at the ready, while the reach and physical size advantage went to Lin Jie, Jake was known for being fast and precise.
"Match start!"
Instantly, Jake dashed out with his dagger, his speed as an awakener nothing to scoff at.
*BOOM!*
Lin Jie blocked the attack easily.
"Drake blocked Macer?!"
"Wasn't he just a loser?,"
The students' reactions were all the same, utter bewilderement.
With no powers to aid him, he's just a kid that's still wet behind his ears. As a star-knight who fought to the last second to guard earth, Lin Jie's combat experience was on another level completely, most normal fighters appearing sloppy to him.
After blocking the dagger, John kicked at a specific part of Jake's ankle. Not using enough force to tackle him, but instead setting up a different attack later on.
Jake quickly dodged back and put up his guard again.
"You learned a few tricks loser, but you're still weak!" He lunged forward again.
This time he used a feint to make it appear as though he was going after Lin Jie's throat, only to stab towards the chest.
Child's play!
While dodging slight, Lin Jie kicked Jake's ankle again.
"Stop running, loser!"
Attempting to lunge forward again, Jake tripped over and fell on his head. The pain in his ankle affecting his movements.
Bingo!
Seeing an opening, Lin Jie rushed forward to knockout Jake with a single attack. Fron the start, the goal was humiliation, not just victory.
"Dodge this then, you fucking loser!" A bright blue energy covered Jake's hands.
And the temparature instantly dropped by a hundred degrees, large ice shards forming and around in every direction in the air, hundreds of them.
"Macer stop!" The teacher jumped into action.
At the same time, the world flowed slowly for Lin Jie as the Evo Chip activated.
[Alert! Hundreds of projectile attacks have locked onto the host! Activate Autonomous evasive maneuvers? Y N]
Yes!Before I become a kebab!
[Activating autonomous evasive maneuvers!]
[Calculated that a total of 18 repeated uses of [Side-step] required! Brace for mental impact!]
Shit-!
As his body instantaeously weaved around the projectiles descending upon, Lin Jie's mind recoiled from the repeated toll it received. No rest, no time for it to reset, it received a seemingly endless battering.
*BOOOM! BOOOM!*
The shards were blown away by a sudden force as the teacher activated his power and a raging wind surrounded Lin Jie, and Jake, pushing them apart.
When the dust cleared, Lin Jie and Jake floated in the air, held by a strange wind with the ice shards embedded in the ground, some of them hurting the students.
"You dumb bastard! How dare you use your powers in class?!" The teacher shouted at Jake.
"Watch your mouth, teach." Jake grinned, his smile showing his disdain for the teacher and the academy, in his mind everything was beneath his father, so he had nothing to fear.
"Dean's office, now!"
Jake's expression changed as the guards escorted him to the dean's office.
At the same time, the mental toll hit Lin Jie all at once and knocked him out cold..
