Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 3#

Buzz Buzz Buzz

As the sun rises illuminating the room through the window, our protagonist is still sleeping at the sound of his alarm clock vibrating on the bedside shelf.

Knock Knock!

"Andy wakes up and bathes, The moving company will soon arrive to carry our load so be fast ", Laura as she knocked at his son's door but got no reply.

"Andrea Rein don't make me enter that room and wake you up because I swear that will be the last time sleeping for a week", shouted angry Laura as she was about to bang into the room.

"I'm awake ", said suddenly awakening Andrea from the room as he stopped his mom from breaking the door.

"Fine be ready before 8 ", said Laura as she walked away from his room.

In the room, Andrea was still on his bed as he gazed at the ceiling in thought.

"Having a mom is not that easy, can't believe the second day of my transmigration I thought everything yesterday night was all a dream, this is now my new life", thought Andrea as he jumped out of bed and into the bathroom.

Looking at himself in the bathroom, Andrea was spectating himself and with the look of it Andrea liked his new body come on who doesn't, his tight slim muscle, his diamond-shaped face just at those jawlines, his dark and polished hair but what stood out the most is his golden eyes that have that godly glow.

"This is not normal", muttered Andrea as he stared at the eyes.

After analyzing his face again, he quickly brushes his teeth and bathes to avoid his mom nagging and rushes to the sitting to join his mom in helping the movers load the appliance while Laura and Andrea load the remaining items into their car.

The car's engine roared to life, a steady hum accompanying the crunch of gravel as Laura maneuvered the vehicle out of their driveway. The early morning sun cast a golden hue across the road, its rays flickering through the car windows as the two embarked on their journey to Havenline.

Andrea slouched in the passenger seat, his headphones dangling around his neck. His gaze shifted between the passing scenery and the dashboard, a restless rhythm tapping against his thigh.

"Are you going to stay grumpy the entire trip?" Laura asked, a teasing lilt in her voice as she adjusted the rearview mirror.

Andrea shrugged. "Grumpy? No. Unimpressed? Definitely. It's just another boring town with nothing interesting."

Laura chuckled softly. "Well, this 'boring town' is where we're starting over. New places bring new opportunities, you know. You could at least try to be optimistic."

"Optimism's overrated," Andrea quipped, glancing out the window at the rows of pine trees whizzing past.

The road stretched ahead, framed by fields dotted with the occasional farmhouse. Laura's playlist of soft jazz hummed in the background, but Andrea quickly switched it off.

"Hey!" she protested, her tone half-serious.

"Mom, no offense, but your music tastes are ancient. At least let me pick something tolerable," Andrea replied, scrolling through his phone.

"You call that noise tolerable?" Laura shot back with a grin. "Fine, go ahead. But if I hear one explicit lyric, we're going back to my jazz."

Andrea smirked as he settled on a mellow indie playlist. The soft strumming of guitars filled the car, blending with the sound of the tires against the asphalt.

An hour passed, and the monotony of the drive began to wear on them. Laura broke the silence. "So, tell me—what's the first thing you want to do when we get to Havenline?"

"Find the nearest Wi-Fi spot," Andrea deadpanned.

Laura shook her head, laughing. "Seriously? Not explore the town, make some friends, or—I don't know—check out your new school?"

"Yeah, because making friends has worked out great for me in the past," Andrea said, his voice tinged with sarcasm. He turned his head toward her. "I'm not exactly the social butterfly you hope for, Mom."

Laura softened her tone. "Look, I know high school was rough, but college is different. You'll meet people who get you. And maybe... just maybe, you'll open up a bit."

Andrea snorted. "Doubt it. But thanks for the pep talk, Coach."

They stopped at a roadside diner for lunch. The smell of frying bacon and brewed coffee greeted them as they stepped inside. Andrea opted for a burger and fries, while Laura settled on a chicken salad.

"Last decent meal before we hit the middle of nowhere," Andrea joked, taking a bite of his burger.

Laura gave him a look. "You know, Havenline isn't on Mars. They do have food there."

"Yeah, but does it taste like this?" he countered, gesturing to the juicy burger in his hand.

Their laughter filled the small booth, earning a few amused glances from nearby patrons. For a brief moment, the weight of the move seemed to lift.

Back on the road, the sky began to darken as rain clouds gathered overhead. Droplets splattered against the windshield, and Laura switched on the wipers. The rhythmic swishing filled the silence, lulling Andrea into a light doze.

When he woke, they were approaching a sign that read, Welcome to Havenline – A Town with Heart and History. The letters were chipped, and the sign itself leaned slightly to one side as if it had seen better days.

"Wow, inspiring," Andrea said dryly, stretching his arms.

Laura glanced at him. "First impressions aren't everything. Give it time."

As they entered the town, the streets were eerily quiet, save for the occasional passerby. Andrea spotted a small bookstore, a diner, and what looked like an old theater. The charm of the place was undeniable, but there was something off—a strange stillness that made him uneasy.

"Mom, you sure this isn't a horror movie set?" he asked, half-joking.

Laura laughed but didn't answer right away. "Havenline has its quirks, but every town does. Just keep an open mind, okay?"

Andrea sighed. "Fine. But if I see a clown or hear creepy music, I'm out."

Their conversation was cut short by the sight of a police checkpoint up ahead. Laura slowed the car as an officer motioned for them to stop.

"Evening, ma'am. Routine check," the officer said, leaning into the window. His tone was gruff, and his expression unreadable.

"We're just moving into town," Laura explained, her polite smile unwavering.

The officer glanced at Andrea, who stared back with mild disinterest. "Hope you two know what you're getting into," he muttered before waving them through.

As they drove off, Andrea turned to his mother. "That wasn't cryptic at all."

"Let's just get to the house," Laura said, gripping the steering wheel a little tighter.

The rest of the drive was uneventful, but the weight of the officer's words lingered in the air. As they pulled into the driveway of their new home, Andrea couldn't shake the feeling that Havenline was more than it seemed.
