Chapter 20 - XX: Final

The final was here. After an hour-long break, the arena buzzed with anticipation as the clock struck 18:00. Nejire and Raiden stood on opposite sides of the newly restored stage, their gazes locked, their bodies tense but ready. The crowd roared with excitement, their energy palpable in the cool evening air.

Present Mic didn't waste a second."welcommmeee to the final! today, we will decide the champion of this year's sports festival! two incredibly powerful contenders stand before you, both mastering similar but unique battle styles! and now, without further ado, get ready for this spectacular showdown—let the battle beeeeeegiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!

The audience cheered, the sound echoing across the stadium as Nejire and Raiden prepared themselves. Raiden rolled his shoulders and stretched his legs, while Nejire mirrored his movements, each silently respecting the other's readiness. They both understood the stakes, but neither would strike before their opponent was set, the honor was as important as skill. They didn't want just to win; they wanted to prove their abilities.

The silence between them broke as Raiden took the initiative, his form beginning to shift. This time, he didn't rush. His right arm shimmered as the number etched onto it morphed into an eight, signaling his latest "level up". Raiden could feel the surge of raw power coursing through him, sharper and more overwhelming than before. A new ability stirred within him. Instinctively he knew how to use it, he let the energy flow slowly, adapting to the new strength.

From her position, Nejire watched intently, her sharp eyes taking in every detail.

Raiden's transformation was a sight to behold. His gray fur rippled as if charged with purple energy, the texture smooth but brimming. His tail, a deep purplish hue, lashed through the air, glowing faintly around it.

Instead of ears, two curved horns crowned his head, glinting under the stadium lights.

His body seemed to radiate a faint purplish blue aura.

Raiden's glowing eyes met Nejire's, his stance exuding calm.

He transformed first, and now, due to Nejire Quirk Nature, he could directly use disable and end the fight, however, he refrained from doing so, it wasn't the moment.

Nejire took a deep breath, her competitive spirit flared at the sight of Raiden. This was the moment she had been waiting for—a chance to prove her strength against an opponent who had shown a raw power beyond her peers, and beyond her in the last match.

But Nejire didn't backed down. A grin tugged at her lips as she adjusted her stance. Energy began to swirl around her, spiraling outward in vibrant yellow waves. The stadium lights flickered slightly under the intensity of her charge.

Nejire's signature wave erupted in a vibrant spiral of yellow energy, while Raiden countered with a pulse of concentrated psychic force—Confusion.

The two rippling energies collided violently in the center of the arena, the sheer force of the clash sending shockwaves across the floor that cracked in the middle due to the attacks.

The crowd held their breath as the struggle played out, the energy began to make a glowing fissure of light where it met.

However, Raiden's power quickly gained the upper hand, his psychic energy carving through Nejire's wave with precision.

Gritting her teeth, Nejire immediately raised her other hand, channeling more power into her attack in an attempt to hold Raiden back. Her twin spirals of energy roared to life, pushing harder against his advancing force. But Raiden remained calm, his expression serene.

He closed his eyes and muttered under his breath:

"Calm Mind. Laser Focus."

The effect was instantaneous. His gaze sharpened, glowing faintly with a determined intensity. The power behind his Confusion attack surged, overwhelming Nejire's combined energy and forcing her to retreat.

A flash of frustration flickered across her face as she was pushed back.

Then, suddenly, a voice echoed in her mind.

"Nejire, you're holding back."

It was Raiden's voice, calm but cutting, delivered through the telepathic connection they'd used many times before. Her eyes widened in disbelief.

"Holding back? I know I'm not using the full 100% charge, but that doesn't mean I'm holding back!" she snapped, her thoughts spilling into the mental link.

"You are," Raiden replied, his tone unwavering. His second hand extended outward, and another wave of psychic energy burst forth, this time aimed directly at her.

The impact was brutal. Nejire was sent flying across the arena, skidding toward the corner as the force reverberated through her body. The audience gasped in shock, the tension palpable. Dazed, she pushed herself up, her mind racing.

Why is he this strong? she thought, her heart pounding. He didn't even seem strained, and yet the raw power he wielded was far beyond what he had shown in his battle with Tamaki. Something had changed.

As if sensing her thoughts, Raiden's voice echoed once more in her mind. "Yes, something did change, I'm still not enterly sure what, but I feel different and I realized something " he admitted, his tone calm yet and affable.

"During my fight with Tamaki, I realized I was using my powers wrong. I used to see them as a vast pool of energy, static and endless. Every attack was me dipping into that pool, pulling a bit at a time. But that approach was flawed."

He paused, stepping forward, his aura pulsing in sync with his words.

"Energy isn't static. No type of power is. Energy has to flow, to move. What I needed wasn't to pull from the pool—I needed to let it circulate constantly, to flow around my body like a current. I needed to trust the flow, to let it feed my abilities in a seamless, fluent way. This way, my powers became faster, stronger, more efficient. They became part of me, not something separate. and, if I was holding back, you are, our powers are similar, and you are using them in the way I was"

Nejire's eyes narrowed as she absorbed his words. Raiden wasn't just stronger; he was different. His mastery over his abilities had evolved, and now she faced an opponent operating on an entirely new level.

Her lips curled into a defiant smile. If he's giving advice, who I are to not take it,

However, even with this revelation and advice, Raiden wasn't about to allow Nejire to experiment or adapt. Without hesitation, he sent a Psyshock straight at her, one hand extended, while moving in a calculated circle around her position. Nejire's instincts sharpened as she focused on evading the incoming strike. With a quick backflip, she dodged the attack, her feet barely touching the ground before she noticed Raiden raising both hands.

From the air, five colossal stones materialized—not extracted from the ground but conjured by Raiden himself. The arena floor remained untouched, as though the stones had been plucked from an alternate dimension. Each stone, massive and imposing at two meters in diameter, hovered ominously. With a deliberate wave of his hand, Raiden sent them hurtling toward Nejire.

Ancient power.

Seeing the sheer size of the incoming projectiles, Nejire's focus turned razor-sharp. She propelled energy to her feet, launching herself upward with a powerful leap. Four of the stones sailed below her, missing by mere inches, their trajectory heading perilously close to the crowd.

The fifth, however, locked onto her mid-air.

Panic surged within her as the massive boulder threatened to crush her. Acting on instinct, Nejire pushed her hands forward, channeling every ounce of energy she could muster in a little fraction of a second.

A brilliant surge of power erupted, barely managing to shatter the stone into fragments just before it reached her.

Meanwhile, the other four stones barreled toward the audience. Cementoss the teacher, reacted instantly, raising a series of sturdy barriers to shield the crowd. Yet, one by one, the stones smashed through the walls as if they were made of paper, finally stopping at the last reinforced layer.

The audience, now acutely aware of the battle's escalating intensity, began retreating to the higher seats for safety.

Nejire, hovering mid-air after her narrow escape, turned her frustrated gaze toward Raiden. Her breathing was heavy, her energy reserves noticeably drained from the effort, while Raiden appeared completely unfazed. In fact, he seemed even stronger now.

Ripples of vibrant purple energy danced around his body

Frustration bubbled within Nejire as she began charging her energy once more. Perhaps it was Raiden's earlier words, or maybe something deep within her subconscious, but she decided to stop holding back. This wasn't just about power anymore—it was about understanding their powers . This time, she reached out telepathically.

"Ne-ne, how do you circulate your power? Like this?"

She tried to mimic what Raiden had described earlier. Instead of expelling her energy outward in bursts, she allowed it to flow around her body, moving in synchronized spirals through her arms and legs. Slowly, a radiant, golden armor of energy began forming, encasing her figure in a protective yet dynamic glow.

Her eyes lit up with curiosity, and for the first time in years, a cheerful spark returned to her demeanor—a glimpse of the Nejire who once embraced her boundless energy and joy.

Unbeknownst to her, she transmitted her inner turmoil to Raiden, who listened carefully.

She grappled with memories of her early years—of a bright, curious girl whose quirk intimidated others, of how her peers suppressed her cheerful nature out of fear or misunderstanding.

She recalled her entry into U.A., where she finally met others who were as strong, if not stronger, than herself. And now, facing someone even more formidable, she found herself smiling.

Raiden, sensing the raw emotion and self-discovery within her, halted his attack. Out of empathy, he allowed her the space to fully comprehend what was happening within her, even if this could put him in a tricky situation right after.

Then, as if a switch had been flipped, Nejire embraced her power—both physically and emotionally. The energy around her turned into an armor surrounding her. With a determined yell of "Nejire Spiral!" she charged straight toward Raiden.

Her energy coiling into a spiraling vortex around her whole body, transforming the girl into a tornado. The whirlwind of power surged forward, radiating an almost palpable heat.

Raiden narrowed his focus, his sharp eyes tracking her movements.

He waited, calm yet calculating, for the perfect moment. As Nejire closed the distance, her spiraling energy threatening to overwhelm him, Raiden darted skyward, narrowly avoiding her strike. From above, he countered with two Confusion attack—a massive field of energy designed to disorient her.

The attack collided with her spiraling shield, partially dispelling the protective energy around her.

At the same time, the sheer force of her unleashed power obliterated part of the arena floor, sending debris flying in every direction. For a brief moment, Nejire's energy faltered, but she quickly rechanneled it, reinforcing the aura closer to her body. Her entire form transformed into a living weapon, her movements sharp and unrelenting as she launched herself at Raiden again.

This time, she pressed forward with close-quarters combat, forcing Raiden to continually dodge her strikes. Frustration began to creep into her expression as Raiden's evasive maneuvers became more fluid, almost graceful. With each dodge, his mastery over his telekinetic abilities grew, allowing him to move with an almost dance-like rhythm. Gusts of wind swept through the arena, and the floor beneath them crumbled under the onslaught of Nejire relentless energy.

In the chaos, Cementoss, their teacher, worked tirelessly to protect the crowd, erecting barriers and guiding spectators to safety amidst the destruction.

As Raiden dodged another strike, he seized the opportunity to retaliate. With a focused gesture, he activated Ancient Power, summoning five massive rocks from the ground. Unlike before, Nejire was so locked onto Raiden that she had no time to intercept the attack.

One of the boulders struck her directly, sending her hurtling into the sky.

When the rock disintegrated into nothingness, Raiden scanned the air for his opponent. His gaze locked onto Nejire, who floated above him, her breath ragged, her body battered and bloodied. Crimson streaks ran down her forehead, arms, and legs, dripping steadily onto the fractured arena floor below. Despite her injuries, Nejire's resolve didn't waver.

She clasped her hands together, her expression a mix of exhaustion and determination. Raiden recognized the familiar buildup of energy—it was her final stand.

With trembling but unwavering hands, Nejire began gathering her remaining power, a radiant glow intensifying between her palms.

Raiden, sensing the gravity of the moment, mirrored her actions. He brought his hands together, channeling his energy with precision.

From his fingertips, twin streams of yellow and purple energy spiraled outward, crackling with heat and power.

The air around them grew heavy, almost suffocating, as the sheer force of their preparations distorted the atmosphere.

Both combatants locked eyes, their bodies tense with anticipation. This was it—the final clash to determine the victor of the tournament.
