The week had been a whirlwind of activity for Lin Yun. After his intense lecture series on the Aegis product, he felt a sense of accomplishment.
The programmers at Cloud Technology were now well-versed in the intricacies of the anti-virus software, and the company was poised to take the cybersecurity world by storm. But as the week drew to a close, a new development emerged—one that would test Lin Yun's strategic acumen and his sister's negotiation skills.
It was Friday afternoon when Lin Xue received a call from Jake Ma, who was still in the Federal States. "President Lin," Jake Ma's voice crackled through the phone, "I just got off the phone with Barry Sage. He's interested in a partnership with us. He's sending a representative to discuss the details. They'll be here tomorrow."
Lin Xue's eyebrows shot up. "Tomorrow? That's fast."
"Booble doesn't waste time," Jake Ma replied. "They're serious about this."
Lin Xue nodded, even though Jake Ma couldn't see her. "Alright, let's see what they have to offer. I'll inform Little Brother."
When Lin Yun heard the news, he wasn't surprised. He had anticipated this move from Booble. After all, Cloud Browser was gaining traction, and Booble's search engine was a natural fit for integration. But he also knew that Booble's intentions might not be entirely benign. They could be looking to absorb Cloud Technology, or at the very least, gain a significant foothold in the company.
The next day, the Booble representative arrived at the Cloud Technology office. Lin Xue greeted them warmly, her professional demeanor masking the underlying tension.
The representative, a sharp-dressed man in his early forties named David Carter, exuded confidence as he shook hands with Lin Xue and Lin Yun.
"Thank you for having me," David said with a polite smile. "Booble is very impressed with what you've accomplished here. Cloud Browser is a remarkable product."
"Thank you," Lin Xue replied, leading him to the conference room. "We're proud of what we've built."
As they settled into the conference room, Lin Yun took a seat beside his sister, observing David carefully. He knew that this meeting would be a delicate dance of negotiation and strategy.
David opened the discussion with a brief overview of Booble's vision for the future of the internet. "Booble is committed to making information accessible to everyone," he said. "We believe that integrating our search engine with Cloud Browser would be a win-win for both companies. It would enhance the user experience and drive more traffic to both platforms."
Lin Xue nodded thoughtfully. "We're open to collaboration," she said. "But we're also cautious about maintaining our independence. Cloud Technology is more than just a browser—it's a platform for innovation."
David smiled, his tone smooth and persuasive. "We understand that. Which is why we're also offering to invest in Cloud Technology. We see tremendous potential here, and we'd like to be a part of your growth."
Lin Yun, who had been silent until now, leaned forward. "What kind of investment are we talking about?" he asked, his voice calm but probing.
David's eyes shifted to Lin Yun. "Are you the man behind Cloud Browser?"
Before coming here, he'd learned that the one behind the innovative browser was a young prodigy called Lin Yun. It was unbelievable but he couldn't deny the reality.
Lin Yun met David's gaze with a calm, steady expression. "Yes, I am," he replied simply, his tone neither boastful nor defensive. "I developed Cloud Browser."
David's eyes widened slightly, and he leaned back in his chair, a mix of surprise and admiration flickering across his face. "I had a feeling," he said, his voice tinged with respect. "Barry Sage, our founder, has been following your work closely. He's a big admirer of yours. He's always saying that you're one of the brightest minds in the tech industry right now."
Lin Yun smiled modestly. "That's high praise coming from someone like Barry Sage. I've always admired his vision and what he's built with Booble."
David nodded, his tone sincere. "He'll be thrilled to hear that. In fact, I think that's part of the reason I'm here. Mr.Barry wants to show goodwill and build a strong relationship with you and Cloud Technology. He sees a lot of potential here, and he wants to be a part of your journey."
Lin Xue exchanged a glance with Lin Yun, a subtle smile playing on her lips. "That's very kind of Mr.Barry. We're honored by his support."
David said further. "We're prepared to offer a significant stake in the company," he said. "In exchange, we'd provide not just financial resources, but also access to our global network and expertise."
Lin Xue exchanged a glance with Lin Yun. They had discussed this possibility beforehand, and they were both on the same page.
"While we appreciate the offer," Lin Xue said, her tone firm but polite, "we're not interested in selling a stake in the company. We value our independence and want to maintain full control over our direction."
David's smile didn't waver, but Lin Yun noticed a flicker of disappointment in his eyes. "I understand," David said. "But perhaps we can explore other forms of collaboration. A partnership, for example, that doesn't involve equity."
Lin Xue nodded. "We're open to that. In fact, we've been considering a limited-term collaboration. A one-year contract, for instance, where we integrate Booble's search engine into Cloud Browser. This would allow us to test the waters and see how our users respond."
"One year?" David frowned slightly.
"Yes," Lin Xue said confidently. "Although it is a bit short, it is more safer for both of us."
David leaned forward, his demeanor shifting slightly. "Initially, I was hesitant about the one-year contract proposal. It's a bit short for a partnership of this scale. But after learning more about you, Mr.Lin, and seeing the vision behind Cloud Technology, I'm convinced that this is the right move. Booble is willing to accept the one-year contract as a gesture of goodwill and to show our commitment to this partnership."
Lin Yun's eyes narrowed slightly, his mind racing. He hadn't expected David to change his stance so quickly, but he wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
"We appreciate your flexibility, David," he said, his tone measured. "We believe this partnership has the potential to be mutually beneficial, and we're committed to making it work."
David smiled, clearly pleased with Lin Yun's response. "I'm glad to hear that. Now, let's talk about the specifics of the contract. We're prepared to move forward with the one-year term, but we'd like to include a clause that allows for an extension if both parties are satisfied with the results."
Lin Xue nodded, her expression thoughtful. "That's reasonable. We're open to that."
