DESIREE
My feet tap against the ground restlessly as I wait for the agency car that was sent to pick me up and take me straight to the private jet and take me home, I couldn't help but wonder, what if it was me that bullet hit, what would I have done with my life that is worth reminiscing, all I've done is work and work, drink merlot, watch crappy soap opera's, adopt 3 French cats and work some more, I mean I have no friends, no social life, I don't even have a family.
A horn honks in front of me and when it rolls down, I see that it's Andre and right then and there I make a conscious decision, a decision that I will not be that angry cat lady that barks at young people to leave her lawn, I'm not gonna end up alone, not now not ever.
He waves me over and I smile entering the car.
"You look rough" he murmurs and I nod
"I feel rough" he starts the car, driving towards the airport, humming a tune...Andre is a relatively happy guy, I attended his wedding 3 years ago and now they have a month old daughter and a dog named skippy, I want that...only lonely people buy cats.
"They shot at my phone" I say, trying to start conversation and the car screeches to a halt, I see his eyes in the rear view and he actually looked scared for me
"How could you say that so casually!" he exclaims and I shrug
"We see worse on the field, trust me" I say trying to reassure him, thankfully he continues driving, his eyes fixed on the road, when we got to the airport it was already noon and I still had that wicked headache but the ache between my legs was dulled now.
"Andre?" He turns to me as we enter the private jet taking seats on opposite sides, Andre is a stout man, short and sturdy, not conventionally attractive but from certain angles he's a guy you'd want to build a life with unlike the guy from yesterday, with his dangerous bedroom eyes and his shaggy hair and muscular arms and- stop it, you're deciding to not end up alone not dwell on a one night stand.
"Yeah?" He murmurs looking up from the book he was reading.
"What was going on in the agency before I called" he tenses up at my question and I narrow my eyes at that, I pick up a hint of fear from his energy...something is definitely wrong "before you lie to me, I should warn you that it isn't wise"
He sinks further into the plush leather seats and I arch up a brow...for Pete's sake, Andre isn't even among the big guys who call the shots and he's still keeping me out of the loop, but I know why. After the big split of the human world from the supernatural world that changed humanity as we know it, I left with the humans, and while that was great and all cause I wanted to explore my humanity, my parents weren't as thrilled as I was.
A year after my 18th birthday something changed, I woke up a monster...well technically a vampire but still and even though I've been suppressing it for years now using different pills and natural herbs, the fact that I'm a blood sucking demon by nature means that I apparently can't be trusted with information no matter how high in rank I am.
"All I can say is that it's something huge" he sighs looking at me with pity...I hate that look, it's the look my co-workers give me when they're taking leaves to go for thanksgiving with their families.
"When is it not" I roll my eyes looking out the window.
The flight doesn't take long but with the awkward silence and glances it feels like an eternity.
Finally we land on home soil I take my damaged phone out of my bag and toss it to Andre and he looks at me in confusion so I sigh.
"Help me give this to Vivian, I need the information in it" he arches a brow already skeptical
"Is anything the bosses should know on here?" He asks and I shake my head, we all know there is because they wouldn't have taken the time to shoot it but he nods along with me.
We get down from the aeroplane and take one of the cars there to the office, it's about 2:30 pm now and I haven't eaten breakfast, man is this job hectic. Sometimes I want to quit but then, I save someone and get this fuzzy warm feeling inside and it keeps me going, that's the whole reason I joined the force.
As we draw closer to the office, my eyesight must be fuzzy because there's a group of agents where they aren't supposed to be...outside and I suddenly feel very unsafe, my eyes wander over to Andre's and I can tell that he has no clue what's going on, he's as unaware as I am. We can't even enter through the gate because they've formed a chain in front of us, blocking our entry.
Looking at the scene in front of me, I begin to look at the possibilities that the people after me aren't the people that killed Mr Myers, the people after me are my people.
"Andre...we have to reverse" I instruct looking back, thankfully non of them love their job enough to stand at the back of a moving car. Andre squeaks and I swear I'd call him a pussy if I wasn't feeling a little squeaky myself.
"Step out of the car and no one gets hurt" a voice calls from inside the car and I recognise that voice, Miss Stone, the woman who recruited me.
"Why are you doing this" I ask, my hand already reaching for the gun in my bag
"It's nothing personal Agent, we're just protecting the people" she says, her voice Stone cold and firm...no wonder she never married
"We give you 5 minutes then we'll start to shoot" she says then the intercom is cut off, I slowly turn to Andre who is probably working on breathing exercises by how loud he's breathing and how frequent.
"Leave this car" his eyes widen and he shakes his head frantically.
"You can't ask me to do that"
"You heard her...I won't let you join me in this mess, leave the car now" he stutters shaking his head and looking out the window.
"Wh-what about you" taking my damaged phone from his pocket I shrug a shoulder
"I'll be fine, don't worry about me, now go" he opens the door and immediately he does, I take over the drivers seat and set this baby into reverse.
I have already inputed my destination, driving towards Vivian's place, not my brightest idea given the present circumstances but I have no other choice, she's like the batman of computers, I hear bullets raining on the car but I'm not bothered because this is one hundred percent bullet proof.
I may not have been followed now but I have to ditch this car and I have to ditch it soon otherwise I'll be caught, this car and all other vehicles and some gadgets all have built in tracking devices in case someone disappears or something.
Wow, it's a good day for running away from your company and hiding their car under piles and piles of shrubbery and creating a decoy accident scene, good day indeed, by the time they pick through the wreckage, I would've entered the supernatural world, yes I had already decided...whatever mom wanted must've been serious if she thought of reaching out to me...so once I find out what it is, I'll go there immediately.
Vivian's house has to be the most remote place I have ever been to, she doesnt have neighbours for miles, I wonder how she sleeps peacefully knowing that someone could attack her and no one would know to report it or look for her. Scurrying past the security system that I had set up for her protection because they just kept using her as serial killer bait at the agency (no joke), I input the emergency code to override the security system temporarily so I can get in and immediately I do I'm met with the stench of sour cream and crackers. Did I mention that she's more of a recluse than I am.
"Who's there! I swear jerry this is not funny!" She yells out so loud my ears are ringing
"Relax, vivi...its just me" I say emerging from the shadows, damn it doesn't look likes she's been out in years...I mean you work from home doesn't mean you should turn into...a hobo.
"Oh, Desiree" she sits up dusting the chip crumbs from her body and I fight the urge to cringe, I like staying at home yea but the amount of field work I've done, interrogating people, playing different characters, invading the minds of sick bastards and using it against them, it shaped me into an ambivert that enjoys her peace but can adapt well to social situations, now Vivian is beautiful with her golden blonde hair that's currently in a messy bun atop her head and her fit body that's hiding behind the piles of blankets she has on...
"Hey...I wondered if you could extract information from this" I say pulling out the damaged phone from my back pocket and she winces, yeah I know...its that bad
"You know, I shouldn't be helping you" she murmurs and it's my turn to wince "but I have no moral compass and this is the most fun thing I've been involved in since the last episode of dateline"
"How did you know?" I look around for any hidden camera's or agents.
"Are you kidding, it's on the pinnacle today" she rolls her eyes giving me her phone and taking the one I had in my hand.
Agent gone rogue
Be on the look out for this woman, this information could save your life.
Slapped onto the page and staring back at me was the picture I took when I first entered the Secret service.
