Chapter 1 - The Crossing: Chapter 1

Liang Chen reclined in his well-worn chair, his hand stroking Yue Ling, the only family he'd known in this life. He, Liang Chen, had transmigrated to this Earth, a fact that became clear at the age of sixteen when a flood of memories came into his mind. The day he came to this world, there was no dramatic accident, no flash of light, no end of the tunnel, no goddess waiting for him to be summoned. The only thing that came with crossing was memories of this body, which were mixed with his own. However, the crossing effect did not seem to stop there, resulting in a day of his body tearing apart and reconstructing to fit with his memories, upgrading his physique.

After it was done, Liang Chen felt breathless. However, before he could rest, the next pain quickly came—a pain unlike any other. It felt like someone was stabbing his mind repeatedly, a pain unlike before. For the whole day, he felt like he wanted to die, yet he couldn't move his own body. The day passed slowly; it felt like torture unlike any other, nearly unbearable. It felt like years passed as the hours came and went. After what felt like decades of mental torture, it ended, and his mind felt clear. All the problems that had bothered him felt like nothing. His brain was running fast, beyond even a supercomputer. All problems felt like dust on the ground; Liang Chencould look at them once, and the solution was clear, like 1+1=2.

What came next was soul pain. Liang Chen didn't know what the soul meant, but he could feel this might just kill him instantly. Passing out directly, there was no way he could endure the pain of the soul evolution. His soul, ethereal and faint, was being torn directly apart, piece by piece. Just before his soul was about to disappear, three faint white lights—one coming out of his soul, one coming out of his sea of consciousness, and the final one from his physical body—merged with his soul, quickly repairing the damage. They continued to heal his soul as it was being ripped apart over and over again, lasting for the whole day.

Getting up, Liang Chen felt exhausted, moving to his bedroom where he slept before falling onto the bed, asleep. Yue Ling, his fox, seemed to check on him worryingly. Snuggling next to him, she noticed something was wrong with him. Not knowing what to do, but since she couldn't understand what was happening to her master, she just lay there with him, trying to be comforted while also trying to provide comfort for her master.

He slept for a day, waking up only to feel Yue Ling next to him. Reaching out and caressing her fur, he felt comfort from her. Yue Ling had always been there, helping him throughout his life. In his memories, when he was 14, he first found her wounded in a trap. While no permanent damage was done, for several weeks she didn't trust him, even after being treated. However, after a few weeks, she slowly started to trust him, and he was better able to nurse her back to health. After being fully healed, instead of leaving, she stayed with him, even after he tried to make her go back to the wild.

Liang Chen was now 20 years old. He lived a comfortable life, free from any troubles, enjoying the life of being rich. As an orphan, he had inherited a large fortune after his parents' death, allowing him to live a life without any worries. Yet there was always something missing. After he came here, he couldn't remember what exactly that was, even with his mind that was like a supercomputer. For a long time, he searched over and over again but didn't find anything.

After a month passed, Liang Chen finally fully merged with his memories. Most of the information was useless; however, one piece stood out. He quickly searched the internet for cultivation novels, noticing that there were none. Searching further, he found that while certain religions stayed the same, some myths about gods and prehistoric information were gone, as if they had never existed. His brain, running at full speed, went through all the cultivation novels he remembered, and he only found a few explanations about what exactly he had experienced after adding all the novels he had read about transmigrating.

One theory was that there had been cultivators on Earth; however, they erased everyone's memories for a reason, fought amongst themselves, and all died. Another possibility was that it was a parallel Earth that may just be different. Without answers, it still seemed he had gotten the full deal of upgraded qualifications—body, mind, and soul. However, this was just his best guess; nothing could be 100% proven. He did notice his sea of consciousness, reinforcing the idea that cultivators once existed on Earth.

This thought ran through his head as he entered his sea of consciousness, seeing something he had never known existed. Amazed and astonished by what he saw—countless tiny white lights floating in his mind, some slowly disappearing one at a time, seeming to go somewhere he couldn't follow—he felt happy and mesmerized for a few seconds before returning to calmness. Exiting, he first wondered where those lights were heading and being consumed by, but then shook his head and smiled. He reminded himself that he shouldn't worry about things he couldn't control. One thing was clear, though: these tiny white lights each contained something powerful. However, they didn't seem to be hurting him, so he just brushed it off.
