Chapter 1 - chapter Two

THE MESSAGE

Emma's team stared at the quantum computer, Erebus, in a mixture of awe and fear. The machine hummed quietly, its lights blinking softly as it processed the vast amounts of data it had generated during the startup sequence.

"Okay, let's take a look at what we've got," Emma said, her voice firm and calm. "Someone get me the output from the quantum processor."

One of her team members, a young engineer named Ryan, nodded and began to frantically type away on his keyboard. A few moments later, a stream of data began to flow across the screens in front of them.

Emma's eyes scanned the data, her mind racing as she tried to make sense of the complex patterns and symbols that danced across the screens.

And then, suddenly, she saw it. A message, buried deep within the data, that seemed to leap out at her.

"What's this?" Emma asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ryan peered at the screen, his eyes squinting in confusion. "I'm not sure," he admitted. "It looks like some kind of code."

Emma's eyes narrowed. "Try to decrypt it," she ordered.

Ryan nodded and began to work his magic. A few moments later, the message began to resolve itself on the screen.

"It's a prophecy," Emma breathed, her eyes wide with wonder. "A warning of some kind."

The message read:

"The convergence is coming. The fabric of reality will be torn apart. The future is not set, but the path is clear. Beware the shadow in the light."

Emma felt a shiver run down her spine as she read the words. What did they mean? And who had written them?

"Where did this come from?" Emma asked, her voice firm.

Ryan shook his head. "I don't know," he admitted. "It's like the quantum computer generated it out of thin air."

Emma's eyes narrowed. "I don't believe that," she said. "There's something more going on here. Something we don't understand."

As she spoke, the lights in the room began to flicker ominously. The air seemed to grow colder, and Emma could have sworn she saw a shadowy figure lurking just out of sight.

"What's going on?" Ryan asked, his voice trembling with fear.

Emma's eyes locked onto the quantum computer, her mind racing with the implications of what they had just discovered.

"I think we've awakened something," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Something that's been waiting for us."
