Chereads / THE BODYGUARD'S VOW / Chapter 11 - The Rescue Mission

Chapter 11 - The Rescue Mission

The stronghold was a maze of chaos. Jungkook's breathing was labored as he pressed against a wall, his hand clutching the wound on his side. The explosion had disoriented his team, leaving him isolated and surrounded.

Footsteps echoed in the distance, drawing closer. Blackstone's men were hunting him, their laughter and jeers making his jaw clench. He adjusted his grip on his gun, every muscle in his body screaming for rest.

He wasn't going down without a fight.

Peering around the corner, Jungkook saw three men approaching. With precise aim, he fired, taking out two and ducking before the third could retaliate. The man shouted for reinforcements, and Jungkook knew he needed to move fast.

As he navigated the dark corridors, his mind drifted to Emi. The thought of her waiting for him fueled his determination. He had to make it back to her—he would make it back.

Back at the hideout, Emi couldn't take the waiting any longer. The comms had gone silent, and every second that passed felt like an eternity.

"I'm going after him," she declared, grabbing a gun and stuffing it into a bag.

Felix blocked her path. "Emi, this isn't your fight. Let us handle it."

Her eyes blazed with defiance. "It became my fight the moment Blackstone targeted my family. Jungkook is out there risking everything for me. I won't abandon him."

Felix hesitated, then sighed. "At least take backup."

"I'll take whoever's willing," she said, her voice firm.

Two guards volunteered, and within minutes, they were in a car racing toward the stronghold. Emi's heart pounded with fear and determination.

The Intersection of Fates

Jungkook was running out of options. His ammo was low, and his body was weakening. As he turned a corner, he came face-to-face with a squad of Blackstone's men.

"End of the line," one sneered, raising his weapon.

Jungkook steadied his aim, ready to go down fighting.

A loud crash interrupted them. The stronghold's front gates burst open, and a black SUV barreled through. The men turned in confusion as Emi emerged, weapon in hand, followed by the two guards.

"Get away from him!" she shouted, firing at the men before they could react.

Jungkook's heart stopped at the sight of her. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"Saving you!" she shouted back, taking cover beside him.

The guards provided cover fire as Jungkook and Emi fought their way toward the exit. Despite the chaos, their movements were synchronized, their trust in each other unspoken but absolute.

As they reached the SUV, Jungkook turned to Emi, his expression a mix of anger and relief. "You shouldn't have come."

"And let you die? Not a chance," she shot back, pushing him into the vehicle.

The SUV sped away, leaving the stronghold behind.

The Aftermath

Back at the hideout, Jungkook sat silently as a medic stitched his wound. Emi hovered nearby, her arms crossed and her expression unreadable.

When the medic left, Jungkook finally spoke. "What were you thinking, Emi? You could've been killed."

"I was thinking that I wasn't going to lose you," she replied, her voice steady.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I told you to stay safe."

"And I told you I wasn't going to sit and wait while you risked your life for me," she said, stepping closer.

Their gazes locked, the tension between them palpable.

"You drive me crazy," he muttered, a small smile tugging at his lips.

"Good," she replied, her voice softening.

Before he could respond, she wrapped her arms around him, careful to avoid his injury. For a moment, they just held each other, the danger momentarily forgotten.

Scene 5: Blackstone's Warning

Later that night, a package was delivered to the hideout. It was small, wrapped in black paper with no return address.

Jungkook opened it cautiously, his team on high alert. Inside was a single note:

"You can't protect her forever."

Jungkook's grip tightened, his jaw clenching. He turned to Emi, who had just entered the room.

"What is it?" she asked, sensing his tension.

He handed her the note, his eyes dark with anger.

Emi read it, her expression hardening. "Let him come. We'll be ready."

Jungkook nodded, a new determination sparking in his eyes. "He won't get near you, Emi. I promise."

But both of them knew that Blackstone was far from finished, and the battle was only beginning.

The Calm Before the Storm

The note from Blackstone lingered in Jungkook's mind like a shadow. He sat in his room, staring at the ominous message on the table. It wasn't just a warning—it was a declaration of war.

A soft knock broke his thoughts. "Come in," he said.

Emi stepped inside, her eyes scanning his tense posture. "You're still thinking about it, aren't you?"

"How could I not?" he replied, his voice low. "This wasn't just a message for me—it was for you too."

"I'm not afraid of him," Emi said, stepping closer. "I've spent my whole life hiding. If he wants to come for me, let him. We'll stop him together."

Her words surprised him. The frightened girl he'd met weeks ago had grown into someone stronger, someone braver.

"I admire your courage," he admitted, his gaze softening. "But I won't let him get close enough to test it."

She placed a hand on his arm, her touch grounding him. "You're not in this alone, Jungkook. I won't let you carry the burden by yourself."

For the first time, he allowed himself a small smile.

Preparing for Battle

The hideout buzzed with activity as Jungkook's team fortified their defenses. Security cameras were installed, escape routes planned, and weapons distributed.

Emi insisted on being part of the preparation. Jungkook reluctantly agreed, teaching her how to properly handle a firearm.

"Hold it steady," he said, adjusting her grip. His hands over hers sent a jolt of warmth through her, but she focused on his instructions.

She aimed at the target and fired, missing slightly.

"Not bad," he said, a hint of pride in his voice. "Again."

By the end of the day, Emi's accuracy had improved, and Jungkook found himself silently impressed.

"You're a quick learner," he said as they walked back inside.

"I had a good teacher," she replied, her tone light but her gaze serious.

A Shared Moment

Later that evening, Emi found Jungkook alone on the balcony, the city lights reflecting in his eyes.

"Mind if I join you?" she asked.

He nodded, and she stepped beside him, the night air cool against her skin.

"Do you ever think about what life would be like without all of this?" she asked.

"All the time," he admitted. "But it's not in the cards for people like me."

She looked at him, surprised by his honesty. "I think you deserve a life beyond this. A chance to be happy."

He met her gaze, his walls cracking just enough to let her see the man behind them. "Happiness is dangerous in my world. It makes you vulnerable."

"Then I guess I'll have to make you vulnerable," she said with a small smile.

His breath hitched at her words, but before he could respond, an alarm blared inside.

Felix ran into the room. "We've got movement. Blackstone's men are closing in."

Jungkook was instantly on high alert. "How far?"

"About two clicks out. We have less than ten minutes."

"Get everyone ready," Jungkook ordered. "Emi, stay here."

"No," she said, grabbing her weapon. "I'm fighting with you."

"Emi—"

"We don't have time for this argument," she cut him off. "I'm not hiding."

Reluctantly, Jungkook nodded.

The team spread out, taking defensive positions. Jungkook and Emi stood side by side, their weapons trained on the entry points.

The first wave of attackers came hard and fast, but Jungkook's team was ready. Gunfire echoed through the night as both sides clashed.

Emi held her own, her hands steady despite the chaos. She covered Jungkook's flank, taking down anyone who got too close.

But then, a familiar voice rang out over a megaphone.

"Jungkook! Come out and face me!"

It was Blackstone himself.

Jungkook stepped out of cover, his weapon raised. "You finally decided to show your face."

Blackstone stood surrounded by his men, a smug smile on his face. "You've been a thorn in my side for too long, Jungkook. Let's end this."

"You want me? Fine. But leave my team out of it," Jungkook said, his voice cold and unyielding.

"Brave, but stupid," Blackstone sneered. "You think I'd let her go that easily?"

His gaze shifted to Emi, who had stepped out beside Jungkook.

"She's not going anywhere," Jungkook growled, stepping in front of her.

Blackstone laughed. "We'll see about that."

A gunshot rang out, and the night exploded into chaos once more.
