Chapter 2 - THE WEIGHT

Xavier sat up, the remnants of his emotional storm still swirling in the air around him. Athertoys hovered before him, a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes, its presence both mesmerizing and infuriating. The being's ethereal form pulsed with an energy that felt like a heartbeat, but Xavier was done with the vague cosmic mumbo jumbo. He needed answers, and he needed them now.

"Okay, so let's get one thing straight," he said, his voice steadying as he crossed his arms. "You're telling me you've been hanging out in my subconscious since I was born, and now you decide to show up because I'm having a meltdown? What gives?"

Athertoys shimmered, its colors shifting like a mood ring. "Your emotional turmoil has created a rift, Xavier. I am here to guide you through it."

"Guide me? Or just hang around like a cosmic leech?" Xavier shot back, irritation bubbling beneath his sarcasm. "You're not exactly giving me the warm and fuzzy vibes here. What are you? Some kind of celestial therapist?"

The being's form rippled, and for a moment, Xavier thought he saw a flicker of something—regret? "I am Athertoys, a fragment of the divine, bound to you by fate. I was once a being of light, but my carelessness led to my punishment by the gods."

"Great, so I'm stuck with a fallen celestial being who can only manifest when I'm at my lowest. Just my luck," Xavier muttered, rolling his eyes. "What do you want from me? A heartfelt apology? A hug? Because I'm not really in the mood for either."

Athertoys' colors dimmed slightly, as if it were absorbing his sarcasm. "I seek redemption, Xavier. My existence is tied to your journey. I can only manifest through your emotional breakdowns, and in doing so, I hope to find a way to earn my pardon from the gods."

"Fantastic," Xavier replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "So I'm basically your emotional punching bag? What kind of cosmic joke is this?"

"It is not a joke," Athertoys said, its voice resonating with a calm that belied the chaos swirling within Xavier. "You must understand, your pain is a catalyst. It is through your struggles that I can regain my former self. But you must confront the fractures within you."

"Yeah, yeah, the whole 'face your demons' spiel," Xavier interrupted, waving his hand dismissively. "But can you give me a straight answer? What exactly do you want me to do? Am I supposed to go on some epic quest or something? Because I'm not exactly equipped for that."

Athertoys shifted, its form swirling in a way that made Xavier feel like he was staring into a whirlpool of emotions. "You will face challenges, yes. But the nature of those challenges cannot be revealed yet. You must be prepared for what lies ahead."

"Prepared? For what? More cryptic nonsense?" Xavier shot back, frustration boiling over. "I'm not some hero in a fantasy novel. I'm just a kid trying to survive high school and deal with my family falling apart. I need clarity, not riddles."

The being paused, its colors dimming as if it were contemplating his words. "You are more than you realize, Xavier. Your journey is not just about confronting your father's betrayal. It is about understanding the depths of your own heart and the power that lies within it."

"Okay, but how does that help me? I'm not looking for a self-help book here," he replied, his voice tinged with exasperation. "I need something tangible. Something I can work with."

Athertoys' form flickered, and for a moment, Xavier thought he saw a glimpse of its true essence—a radiant light that felt both familiar and alien. "You must learn to harness your emotions, to transform your pain into strength. Only then can you begin to understand the true nature of your existence and mine."

"Great, so I'm supposed to turn my emotional wreckage into some kind of superpower?" Xavier said, his tone laced with skepticism. "How exactly do I do that? Do I just sit in a corner and meditate or something?"

"Your journey will not be easy," Athertoys replied, its voice a blend of warmth and gravity. "But you will find allies along the way. People who will help you navigate the complexities of your heart and mind. You must be open to their guidance."

"Yeah, because I'm just overflowing with trust for people right now," Xavier scoffed. "You've seen my life. I'm not exactly the poster child for emotional openness."

"Trust is a choice, Xavier. One you must learn to make," Athertoys said, its voice softening. "You will encounter
