chapter 2

Kael woke up with a start from his troubled sleep. He had nightmares. In those nightmares, he saw his brother being killed and hanged on a stick while the crimson claws made mockery of him. He also saw his mother and father covered in blood as they stood ,looking at him and Anya. His father's head was hanging from his neck. It looked as if it was almost falling out of his body. It was a terrifying dream. He sat up on the bed and looked around, he was confused temporarily. Where am I? He thought. He spotted the soap and towel at the edge of his bed and slowly, he recalled everything and where he was. Anya!! He remembered suddenly. Where was his sister? Is she okay? He needed to see his sister.

He rushed out of the room and opened the door to the room where Anya was kept in but when he looked in the crib, he couldn't find her. He panicked. His mind raced. Where was she? He thought as he ran out of the room, through the stairs and down to the living room.

In the living room, he bumped into a maid while he was searching frantically. She caught him before he could fall to the ground. "Easy there" she said with concern written all over her face.

"Where is my sister ma'am?" He asked hastily.

"Relax dear," she said calmly. "She is in the garden with Lady Lorena. Let me take you there."

He followed her outside the living room and to the back of the house where the garden was. He saw lady Lorena with a basket hand picking flowers and Anya sat in a basket under a shed while playing with a toy in her hand. He ran to her and scooped her out of the basket to check if she was perfectly fine. Anya cooed and clapped happily when she saw him, there was a little plaster on left leg. When he was done checking, he dropped her back into the basket and turned around to see lady Lorena smiling while looking at them.

"Your sister woke up and I couldn't just leave her alone there so I brought here so that she can receive some fresh air while I garden."

"Good morning ma'am" Kael greeted shyly.

"It's afternoon already, Kael. you slept for a really long time."she said, still smiling sweetly at him .

"You should go back into the room to take a shower and change into new clothes. Then you can come down for lunch after that." She added in a low voice.

"Yes ma'am," Kael answered. He took one look at Anya before turning back to leave. He retraced his steps back to the house. As he walked back, he couldn't help but notice how beautiful the house was. The house was painted pure white and had touches of gold designs all around it. Beautiful flowers surrounded the house, and at the far end of the large compound, there was a garage with different beautiful cars on display. He looked towards the gate and could see guards standing with guns. He was wowed. Everything he had seen in books had suddenly come to life.

He hurried upstairs to his room and found fresh clothes on his bed. He hurried into the bathroom and became confused. Everything looked foreign to him. He didn't know how to turn on the shower. He tried severally to turn it on but it proved abortive. He tried the washing sink but it didn't work. Just when he was at a loss on what to do, he saw a little tap at the end of the bathroom and he turned it on. He bent down close to it and kept scooping water and pouring it onto his body. When he had taken his bath, he hurriedly changed into the clothes and low boots. They fit him almost perfectly. He admired himself in the mirror and he suddenly remembered his family. He wished they were all here to enjoy this luxury with him. Tears suddenly welled up in his eyes and he broke down in tears. What had this pack down to those vampires? What did they do to deserve all this? They killed off everybody he loved and almost killed him and Anya. Why? What did they do to deserve this?

Suddenly, he stopped crying. He wiped his tears. He made a resolve in his heart. He would take revenge. Maybe not now, but he must surely avenge his family and pay the crimson claw back in their own coin. He vowed as he took one last look at himself in the mirror and turned away to go down downstairs for lunch.
