Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 - Falling Through Shadows

The sound of the men's car tires screeching on the gravel outside Liora's house sent a chill down her spine. She rushed to the window, her heart hammering in her chest as the same suited men who had come before now stood at her doorstep. There was no mistaking it. They had returned.

Liora opened the door with a sharp breath, her anger barely containing the fear creeping in. "What are you doing here again?" she demanded, her voice trembling but firm. The men stood motionless, their expressions unreadable.

One of them, taller than the others, spoke up, his tone cold and commanding. "We've been instructed to remove you from the premises. Leave the door open, or we'll force our way in."

Liora's heart pounded. "I won't leave. This is my home."

Without warning, the men surged forward, pushing her aside with brute force. She tried to fight back, kicking and screaming, but it was futile. They shoved her to the floor, their weight pressing her down, as they stormed inside. The sound of furniture crashing echoed through the house as they began to destroy everything in sight.

"No!" Liora shouted, scrambling to her feet and trying to stop them, but she was no match for their strength. The men were relentless, tearing through her life as if it meant nothing.

Downstairs, Mr. Lior heard the commotion and rushed to the source of the noise. His eyes widened when he saw the destruction unfolding before him. His protective instinct kicked in, and he stormed toward the men, his voice thick with rage. "What are you doing on my property?" he demanded.

The men didn't flinch. One of them, a burly figure, met his gaze with cold eyes. "It's not your property anymore, Mr. Lior. It belongs to Mr. Yonatan now."

The words hit Mr. Lior like a slap. He staggered back, confusion and disbelief clouding his features. "What do you mean?" he whispered, more to himself than anyone else.

Before he could process the revelation, one of the men handed Liora a letter. She took it, her fingers trembling as she opened the envelope. As her eyes scanned the words, the world around her seemed to blur, her heart sinking with every line. The letter was from Ziv.

"I played you, Liora. I'm sorry, but I had to. You were too trusting, and I needed to put myself first. If things had been different, maybe this wouldn't have happened. But I had to take this opportunity for my own future. I couldn't risk it all for someone who didn't understand".

"I'm moving on. I hope you find happiness, but we'll never be what we were. This is the end".

Tears welled up in her eyes, and her vision blurred. The words felt like a knife in her chest, each sentence tearing at the remnants of her trust and love for him. Her breath hitched as she let out a broken sob, crumpling the letter in her hand.

Mr. Lior, seeing the devastation in his daughter's eyes, reached for the letter, snatching it from her hands. His face went pale as he read the cruel words for himself. Before he could say anything, his chest heaved, and his legs buckled. The letter fell to the floor as he collapsed to the ground, clutching his heart.

Liora screamed in panic, her hands shaking as she knelt beside him. "Dad! Dad, please, stay with me!" She desperately tried to revive him, but it was too late. His body was already cold, his life slipping away in her arms.

The chaos around her seemed to freeze. The men stood by, watching as Liora begged, but they made no move to help. One of the workers who had been in the house saw what was happening and rushed to Liora's side, offering her a phone. "Call an ambulance," he urged.

She dialed the number, her voice frantic. The paramedics arrived swiftly, and despite their best efforts, they couldn't revive Mr. Lior. As they worked, Liora stood frozen, unable to fully grasp the reality of what was happening. The paramedics exchanged glances, their faces grim, but said nothing. When Liora finally understood the gravity of the situation, her world shattered. She collapsed, her sobs echoing in the empty house.

On the way to the hospital, Liora stayed close to her father's side, her heart breaking with each passing moment. The paramedics continued to work, but she could see the desperation in their eyes as they fought to bring him back. By the time they arrived at the hospital, it was clear that it was too late. Her father was gone.

Liora stood in the sterile, cold room as they wheeled her father's body away. The morgue was not a place for someone to grieve, but it was where she had to face the fact that she had lost everything. She asked for a moment alone, her eyes empty and lost.

She returned home hours later, numb to the world around her. The men were still there, as if they had never left. She was too exhausted to fight. The anger had drained from her, leaving only a cold resolve.

"I'll be gone in a week," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Just give me that time."

One of the men nodded and walked away, dialing his boss. He returned moments later with a smirk on his face. "You've got one week. After that, we'll be back to take you out."

With that, the men left, leaving Liora alone with her thoughts. She stepped inside the house, the weight of the world pressing down on her shoulders. She cried herself to sleep, her heart heavy with grief and rage.

The next morning, Liora woke with swollen eyes and an aching heart. She couldn't afford to stay weak. She had to be strong—for her father, for herself, for the vineyard. The deceit, the heartbreak, the pain—it would all have to wait. She would fight back. She had no choice.

After cleaning the house and gathering her thoughts, she called the workers. She told them what had happened, and they cried with her, mourning the loss of a man who had treated them like family. But Liora's decision was clear. It was time to move on.

She paid them with the savings she and her father had set aside, thanked them for their work, and asked them to leave. It was a hard decision, but it was necessary. She packed up the rest of her belongings and left the vineyard behind, taking only what she could carry. Luckily, she had enough savings to rent a small studio apartment.

As she stood at the door, looking back at the place that had once been her home, she vowed to herself that she would get it all back—everything Ziv and Yonatan had taken from her.
