Forbidden Love
Victor and Elise tried to rebuild their relationship as siblings, but the effort felt strained. Each interaction was shadowed by unspoken emotions and memories of their forbidden connection. Though they kept up appearances for the sake of their family, they both knew the truth: their feelings couldn't be erased so easily.

A Fragile Peace
Weeks turned into months, and Elise moved into the Laurent estate, reconnecting with the family she had lost. Marguerite and Antoine were overjoyed to have their daughter back and worked tirelessly to help her adjust to her new life.
Victor, however, kept his distance. He buried himself in work and avoided family gatherings as much as possible. When he did see Elise, their conversations were polite but hollow, as though they were both walking on eggshells.
One evening, Elise found Victor in the family library, staring out the window with a drink in hand.
"You've been avoiding me," she said softly, closing the door behind her.
Victor didn't turn around. "I'm trying to do the right thing, Elise. For you. For us."
She stepped closer, her voice trembling. "Is the right thing pretending we don't care about each other? Pretending we don't feel anything?"
Victor finally looked at her, his eyes filled with torment. "What else can we do? What we felt—what we still feel—it's wrong. It's not something we can act on."
"But it's real," she whispered, tears in her eyes. "And ignoring it is killing me."
Victor set his glass down, the weight of her words breaking through his defenses. "Elise, if we give in to this, it will destroy everything. Our family, our lives... everything."
Elise nodded, the pain evident in her expression. "I know. But I can't keep pretending I don't love you."
Victor closed the distance between them, his heart warring with his mind. For a moment, they stood in silence, the air between them charged with unspoken longing. Then, with a sharp intake of breath, Victor stepped back.
"We can't," he said firmly, though his voice wavered. "We can't do this."

An Unexpected Proposal
As the Laurent family worked to reintegrate Elise into society, Marguerite arranged for her to meet eligible bachelors from their social circle. One man, in particular, caught Marguerite's eye: Julien Armand, the heir to a prominent Parisian shipping empire.
Julien was charming and attentive, and Elise couldn't deny that he was a good man. But her heart remained elsewhere. Still, she allowed herself to entertain his advances, hoping it might help her move on from Victor.
Victor noticed Julien's increasing presence and couldn't hide his jealousy. At a family dinner, he watched in silence as Julien made Elise laugh, his hand lingering on hers.
After dinner, Victor cornered Elise in the garden. "Are you really going to marry him?" he demanded, his voice low and tense.
Elise crossed her arms, meeting his gaze. "What choice do I have, Victor? You made it clear there's no future for us. Julien is kind and safe, and maybe I can find some happiness with him."
Victor's fists clenched at his sides. "Is that what you want? A safe, convenient marriage with a man you don't love?"
Elise's eyes filled with tears. "What I want doesn't matter. It never has."

A Moment of Weakness
That night, Victor couldn't sleep. The thought of Elise with Julien drove him mad, and before he could stop himself, he found himself standing outside her room.
When Elise opened the door, she saw the conflict in his eyes. "Victor, what are you doing here?"
"I can't let you marry him," he said, his voice raw with emotion. "I've tried to fight this, but I can't. I love you, Elise."
Elise's breath caught, and for a moment, they simply stared at each other. Then, as if drawn together by an invisible force, they closed the distance between them, their lips meeting in a desperate, forbidden kiss.
For that brief moment, nothing else mattered—not the rules of society, not their family, not the world outside.

The Breaking Point
The next morning, guilt and fear consumed Victor. He knew what had happened the night before was a mistake, one that could ruin both of their lives. He avoided Elise entirely, retreating to his office and throwing himself into work.
Elise, however, couldn't ignore what had happened. She sought Victor out, determined to talk about the night they had shared.
"We can't keep running from this," she said, her voice firm. "What we feel is real, Victor. And if we keep denying it, we'll destroy ourselves."
Victor shook his head, his expression tortured. "We've already crossed too many lines, Elise. If anyone finds out—"
"I don't care what people think," she interrupted. "I care about you. About us."
Victor looked at her, torn between his love for her and the weight of societal expectations. Finally, he sighed. "I don't know how to fix this, Elise. But I know I can't lose you."
