Chapter 20 - The man in dark blue cloak

Drew

In just two days, I will marry Felicity, and I couldn't be happier. Yet, a sense of dread lingers within me. What if she comes to resent me once she learns the truth? If I reveal everything right after the mating ceremony, will she view me as a villain?

At this moment, she is thrilled to have me as her mate, and I would never want to see her in pain. She has endured enough suffering, having lost both her parents at such a young age—first her father, and then her mother, who couldn't bear to live without her mate.

"What are we going to do about those two? I just hope they don't take drastic measures; they haven't even shared anything with us," said Anthony, my soon-to-be beta. Currently, we are gathered here: my father, myself, my beta, and three warriors from our pack—Zack, Maurice, and Bill who is filling in for Felicity's late father, Holland.

My father sighed and looked at me. "You mentioned that the ones you captured from the native pack committed suicide. If we apply enough pressure, do you think they will confess?" I have my doubts. I noticed something peculiar; these individuals seem to be under a spell. "When we caught them, they were initially willing to talk, but then they started foaming at the mouth. That was when we realized the situation was more complex than we anticipated. It appears that magic is involved," I said, noticing the strain it caused my father as he held his head in frustration.

I am determined to apprehend those individuals who distribute drugs that lead to fatalities, including their accomplices. The circumstances surrounding Reggie's death were unusual, and it was only later that Alpha Anderson and I discovered he had succumbed to a substance known as "drain." We even uncovered a missing supply of this drug and suspect he may have been the one to consume it. Currently, our knowledge about this drug is limited.

My primary focus, however, is to track down the man in the dark blue cloak. I caught a glimpse of his face a decade ago, and I am certain he is the one with whom I have unfinished business. Now that I have matured and gained strength, I am resolute in my pursuit of him. I recognized him instantly during that fateful day when we raided their hideout at the Native Pack. I froze when I realized his identity, and even Alpha Anderson noticed my reaction, questioning whether I knew him. I denied it.

I am convinced that he is the same individual responsible for Beta Holland's death, and the guilt I feel whenever I see my mate is a constant reminder of my role in it. If only I had not been so obstinate. "That's a dilemma; I really don't know how to approach magic," my father remarked, looking at me thoughtfully.

Only my parents are aware of my ability to wield a small amount of magic. I was born with fire magic and can perform minor spells, though I am not particularly skilled in spellcasting, as my true strength lies in fire magic. "We will need assistance; this is not something we can tackle alone," he agreed. "However, there is something we have yet to discuss," Maurice interjected, capturing everyone's attention. "The drug drain is odorless; if it had a scent, it would aid us in tracking it down." That was a valuable insight, and I wondered why I hadn't considered it earlier.

"I brought a sample from the native pack, and we examined the ingredients used in its creation. One ingredient was particularly notable; while it bears some resemblance to cocaine, there was an additional element present. The aroma suggests that some form of magic is at play. It seems that whoever crafted this substance intended to target the wolf race, possibly stemming from a personal vendetta." I shared my observations, and everyone nodded in agreement.

"I would like to add to this discussion," Anthony interjected. "If we aim to uncover the source of this drug, we should proceed with caution rather than rush. Let's start by analyzing its origins, including when it first began to circulate and the pack where it was initially reported to be sold." he suggested, indeed he is right, he is a wise fellow which is why he holds the position of my right-hand man.

We all concurred that to identify the producers and suppliers of this drug, we must trace our investigation back to its roots. The sooner we uncover the individuals behind it, the sooner I can confront the man in the dark blue cloak.
