Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: But I Am

"Huh? Don't you plan on finding that person to take charge?"

Steven scratched his head. Although he found it strange that Kal'tsit used the word "dig out," he was more concerned about why that person was missing.

"Even though I don't know how you know about that person, at least for now, Rhodes Island hasn't fallen into a situation where we absolutely need Doctor to solve the problem."

Kal'tsit frowned tightly. From Steven's tone, she detected a peculiar sense of detachment.

It seemed like this young man knew something about the Doctor, but his understanding was oddly superficial and deliberate. He didn't even realize what it would mean if the 'Ghost of Babel' was truly released.

At the very least, if the Doctor were in charge of Rhodes Island, they would probably stop at nothing to capture Steven and use him as leverage, even if it meant great sacrifices.

"Huh, that's boring. So it turns out I came too early, and the timeline is still before the main plot? Who knows when the story will actually start."

Muttering softly to himself in a voice only he could hear, Steven didn't continue to press Kal'tsit on her reasons. He wasn't too interested in this matter anyway, or he would have remembered it earlier.

"Alright then, if you ever decide to find that person, maybe you can contact me. I'm quite curious about them. Who knows, I might even help you guys for free."

He earnestly reminded Kal'tsit, making no effort to hide his interest in the so-called Doctor. After all, he wasn't planning to kill the protagonist of this world. Why worry about being misunderstood?

"Perhaps. But I sincerely hope that day never comes."

Kal'tsit shook her head and, seeing that Steven had no further questions, turned to leave.

She was somewhat wary of Steven now. If he suddenly asked another strange question, she wasn't sure she could handle it truthfully.

Meanwhile, Steven watched Kal'tsit's retreating figure, a thoughtful look on his face. A critical question had popped into his mind:

—Her tail being gone was one thing, but where did she usually hide that huge Mon3tr? Could it be that she had an extra-dimensional backpack like him?

With this thought in mind, Steven walked back toward his lodging. Without realizing it, it was almost midnight, and it was about time for him to rest.

Yawning as he walked toward his dorm, Steven wasn't at all worried about getting lost, thanks to his handy minimap. Even with his eyes closed, he could find his way back without issue.

However, as fate would have it, just when you want things to go smoothly, destiny often has other plans.

Before Steven could reach his room, a hand suddenly stretched out from around a corner and dragged him into a nearby room.

"What's going on?"

Still yawning, Steven, with a mindset of enjoying whatever spectacle awaited him, didn't resist and allowed the slender arm to toss him onto the bed inside the room.

When he finally got a clear look at the figure responsible, illuminated by the light, he nodded knowingly.

"Miss Gavial, even if you fell in love with me at first sight, you don't have to be this forward, do you? Dragging someone into your dorm late at night—it's a bit too bold, don't you think?"

"Being alone in a room with a guy—if you lose control of your primal instincts and take my long-preserved purity, that won't end well for either of us, will it?"

As he spoke, Steven lay sprawled out on the bed, arms wide open, with a face that practically begged to be taken advantage of.

"Bah! Can you think normally for once? Do I look like that kind of person?"

Gavial ruffled her green hair in frustration, finding herself unable to cope with Steven's infuriatingly cheeky attitude.

What puzzled her even more was that, earlier, no matter how much force she used, she couldn't move him an inch. Yet when she was about to exert maximum strength, this guy suddenly became as light as a sandbag, allowing her to toss him around with ease.

That's why she accidentally threw him onto the bed with such force.

"But I am."

Steven's expression remained calm, as if he didn't know the meaning of shame.

"Come on, don't hold back just because I'm a delicate flower."

He puckered his lips in a mock kiss, as though he were seriously waiting for her to kiss him.

"Stop talking about that!"

Unable to resist the urge to punch him, Gavial swung her fist toward Steven's face.

Even though Kal'tsit had sternly warned her not to provoke him, wasn't this situation entirely his own fault?

Unfortunately, before her punch could land, it was intercepted by Steven's hand. That overwhelming sense of power suppression returned, leaving her unable to move her fist any closer to him. She couldn't even pull it back.

"You could've just said no—why resort to violence? Violent girls will have a hard time getting married, trust me."

In an instant, Steven returned to his serious demeanor, as if the teasing from a moment ago had come from someone else entirely. With a calm expression, he released Gavial's hand and sat up on the bed.

"So, what do you want? I'm really tired. Don't tell me you actually want me to sleep here with you?"

"…How are you this shameless?"

Gavial was momentarily speechless, struggling to adapt to Steven's lightning-fast mood changes. She even forgot to ask how he managed to overpower her earlier, as her focus shifted to admiring his impenetrable thick skin.

"Hey, didn't you just ask me to act normally? And now you're calling me shameless. I can't be passive, I can't be serious, so what do you want? Should I be more assertive?"

His eyes scanned Gavial's figure, lingering briefly on her long legs before finally meeting her pale-gold eyes. Then, with a helpless tone, he sighed, "What more do you want from me? Do you want me to start stripping right here?"
