Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: a game ?

POV David

"Damn, this sucks!" I screamed as I slammed my keyboard on my desk.

"Aarh~ I can't take it anymore, why is there only shit coming out recently?"

For as long as I can remember, I've always loved video games. It was a kind of way out, a way to escape my responsibilities.

Being a big geek, I tested all types of games: RPG, MOBA, FPS... I've played almost everything, but over time, it's getting tiresome. Always the same thing.

"The worst thing is that the video game industries hardly renew themselves and produce the same stuff over and over again." I said to myself a suitor

Should I stop gambling? I thought briefly. No, impossible.

Recently, I came across an online forum that featured some original games. But even then, I had a hard time finding what I was looking for.

"Mmmh, what's that?" I said, intrigued.

[Sin Realm]

"What is this game? Let's go read the synopsis and reviews. »

[Find yourself in purgatory. Fight for survival by choosing one of the 7 deadly sins. Reach the Summits!]

[Review: Flee, you poor fools...]

[Notice: If you don't care about your

Family, work, friends, or sanity, play this game.]

[It's been 12 days since I launched this game. Frankly, thanks to him, I learned how people who commit suicide think. In short, good game, I recommend it if you are depressed.]

[I downloaded the game yesterday, today I went to church to pray.]

[…]

There were about twenty such comments. The majority of them were funny, but one thing was clear: the game was extremely difficult.

"Haha, they're exaggerating in the comments. It can't be that hard! I said, skeptical but intrigued.

A 2D game with a rather good graphics, free, produced abroad and apparently very difficult.

"Given my situation, I can't complain, I'll take it!" I exclaimed, enthusiastically, before launching the game.

"Mmmh, as expected, it asks me to choose between the 7 deadly sins. Well, I'll choose at random. Anyway, I'm just testing the game. »

The style of play wasn't really my thing: horizontal 2D game design. But still, the graphics were beautiful.

"Damn, it's crazy gore! What are all these corpses? Demons? »

"Ah, that's how we do it!"

"Shit, I'm still dead..." »

Time passed quickly.

"What, it's already that late? Shit, this game is too much fun, damn. »

I had been playing for about 6 hours. I was beginning to understand the opinions. The game felt like a soulslike, with one difference: it was a hardcore mode. When I died, I had to start from the beginning.

The worst part is that despite its 2D appearance, the combat was ultra dynamic and addictive. Sure, it was gory, but you quickly got used to it.

Every time I played and died, it was frustrating, but my tryharder ego wouldn't allow me to give up.

So, hour after hour, day after day, year after year, I finally finished the game.

At least, that's what I thought.

"Damn, yes! Finally, after 12 years, I'm done with this shitty game! I shouted, excited.

"I beat that fucking boss. Sure, I'm unemployed and single because of this game, but the effort was worth it. I had a lot of fun... »

I didn't even have time to finish my sentence when I collapsed to the ground, feeling a strong pain in my chest.

'Shit, sweetheart. I fucking fuck. I can't breathe anymore... I thought, unable to call for help.

"It's because of the Red Bull, for sure. I've consumed too much of it in recent years to finish this shitty game. It was supposed to give wings, not death, damn it!'

'Am I going to die? No one will notice, I guess. Damn, I remained a virgin right at the end of my life. This is mega sad...' I thought, gradually losing consciousness.

"But at least I would have finished this game before I died, haha... I whispered weakly, looking at the game screen.

'Why is my name in the end credits of the game, it's ultra...'That was the last thought I had as a human.

"Ouch, am I alive? I thought I was going to die. In the end, I just passed out. »

I was touching my head, still aching from a strange sensation.

"Why can't I see anything? It's far too dark," I said, trying to get up, but I bumped violently against a ceiling.

"Am I locked up? Have I been kidnapped? Yet, I was at home... I whispered, my heart pounding in panic.

'Okay, calm down. First of all, my hands are not tied. No need to cry out for help. If I have been kidnapped, my captors will surely not hesitate to beat me. First, let's try to get out of here.' I thought calmly

With the little strength I had, I struck furiously at the ceiling that prevented me from moving.

Go, go, open up! I thought, determined.

Surprisingly, I managed to do so after a dozen ferocious blows. The ceiling, which turned out to be a shell, cracked before opening, revealing a shallow darkness... and my appearance.

"Huh?! What, what is this shit? Why is my body so small? Hold on... I recognize this figure. »

When I examined my body, I noticed that I had black skin, gray eyes, small claws, a total absence of a tail (for a demon, it was weird), and finally, small horns turned upside down.

It was the typical appearance of a cardinal sin at birth, and not just any sin: that of Sloth.

"Holy shit, I'm fucked..." Damn, I knew it was fate. It had to happen to me, since I spend my days reading manga and playing video games. »

I sighed as I stepped out of the egg, my face covered with my hands.

"And then, from my horns, I can easily guess the color of my eyes as well as my concept... »

Laziness. All seven of the capital demons had eyes of a different color according to their respective concepts:

Pride: purple. Anger: black. Avarice: golden. Lust: bright red. The desire: green. The delicacy: orange. And finally, laziness: grey.

"Damn, I fell in a bad place. Of the seven, I had to be the worst and the most difficult to play. Oh no. »

I looked around me.

"As expected, the others have already been released."

The deadly sins came out of their egg according to their influence and impact on humanity. Of course, the first was Pride, and the last, Sloth.

In the game, the sooner you went out, the better. There were a lot of resources favorable to evolution in the beginning.

"I guess my bastard siblings left nothing for me, right? It doesn't surprise me. I would have done the same in their place," I said tiredly.

"Oh no, I can already feel my senses going numb. I am sleepy... »

All capital demons had bonuses when they were born, but also penalties. And the one for Sloth was the most boring of all.

"Fuck, I want to sleep," I said, yawning.

"And if I sleep..." »

Shlaack!

"Huh? What is this noise? Wait, it's... »

In the half-light, a silhouette appeared, revealing a dozen small blood-red eyes. The further she went, the more I could see red skin and long horns.

"Imps?! Damn, I'm screwed! I shouted before running hurriedly in the opposite direction.

"Shit, I should have thought about it. What made me want to hang out?! »

The Queen's Tomb was a resource-rich place. As soon as the seven capitals awoke, the tomb, inaccessible to other demons, opened wide its doors. Hungry little demons, like imps, didn't hesitate to rush there to retrieve certain resources.

"Shit, they're chasing me, those bastards!" I said, out of breath, turning around.

Of course, the best resource for them was the body of a capital sin.

"Shit, faster, faster! I don't want to die... at least, not a second time, damn! »
