Chapter 1 - A Gateway

"Wh-what is this thing," spoke a young man in his early twenties

In front of him stood a blue portal swelling with a hypnotic pattern.

"Maybe I haven't been getting enough sleep...but why is this what I'm seeing," the boy asked himself in confusion

Pondering the gate and its origins the boy felt a wave of force hit his chest. looking up he watched as the blue portal slowly began to glow.

"What now?" the boy asked concerned

Not knowing what to expect he quickly turned to dash to cover but his confusion turned to surprise when another force began pulling his body closer to the portal.

"Damn it!" the boy said trying to grab onto something

As the force increased and he got closer the boy struggled to grab two very important items from his desk. His gun and a knife; clenching the two items he was pulled into the gate which closed right after he passed through.

...

In the middle of a cold war-torn city barely standing a blue portal opens inside of a small convenience store. A moment later a boy with short black hair and matching eyes and a good build is thrown out.

Catching himself from hitting the ground the boy looks around surprised by his new surroundings.

"Okay...Okay Oliver focus on what the hell just happened," the boy said standing up and clenching his gun an M17 Sig Sauer with an extended 21-round magazine

Taking a few deep breaths Oliver slowly checked out his surroundings and confirmed that he was alone in the worn-down convenience store.

"What happened to this place...and why is it so cold," Oliver said feeling a freezing gust of wind

"I need to deal with this cold it's much worse with short sleeves,"

Starting to look around the store carefully Oliver could not find much but he did find a dirty thin hoodie.

"Not much but it's better than nothing,"

Flapping off most of the dust he put the hoodie on and felt himself warm up slightly.

"No...where am I?" Oliver asked himself walking towards the front of the store

Peeking out of the broken windows he was a war-torn city covered in snow and ice. The silence was so quiet and eerie that it was concerning.

"Where are all of the people?" Oliver asked himself

After a few more moments of looking around, he went deeper into the store and pulled out his phone. No surprise to him that he did not have any service. Ignoring that he pulled out his map to see if he could gauge where he was.

"Maybe I will be close to my home," Oliver was pulling out the map

To his dismay, the map app on his phone could not pick up a location and gave him a grey screen.

"So it's either I'm in a completely different world than my own or the satellites aren't working...I hope it's the latter," Oliver sighed putting his phone away.

With his hun and knife clenched Oliver made his way to the bad of the store. Finding a busted door he carefully walked out of the store into the alleyway.

Walking through the alleyway the cold from before increased. Doing his best to ignore it he began walking further into the unknown city. Reaching the end of the alleyway he stopped at a street and decided to continue left. Walking onto the road but sticking close to the building Oliver made his way through the city.

As he walked through he saw how most cars were filled with bullet holes and some had dead bodies still sitting in them. Walking up to an open vehicle Oliver began looking around for anything useful.

Finding a coat on the back seat Oliver quickly put it on and continued down the road.

After ten minutes of walking and scavaging, he was able to find a tattered bag back and a frozen water bottle.

"Seriously what happened to this place...and why haven't I seen a single person or animal yet?" Oliver asked getting slightly concerned.

Continuing down the road Oliver got his wish when he saw what looked to be a person standing in the middle of a road.

Staring at it he watched as it moved oddly like it was confused or looking for something not theirs.

Watching his step he slowly made his way towards the person. As he got closer he realized something that caused his blood to run cold. It wasn't a person. Not completely. It had ghastly pale skin that was missing chicks of meat, icy blue eyes, and shards of ice growing from its backs and arms.

As the creatures looked around growling in a weak raspy voice Oliver studied it.

(I know I have read a lot of novels since getting out but I never read about something like this... it's like a snow zombie...but does it work like a normal zombie?) Oliver questioned

Grabbing a small rock he threw it at a window a few cars away from him. As he suspected the zombie quickly turned around and started moving toward the sound.

Clenching his knife and gun Oliver slowly sneaked behind the zombie while watching his steps. once he was right behind it he shot up and grabbed it in a chock hold while stabbing its head with his dagger.

Like he hopped the zombie's body went limp and dropped to the ground without a struggle. Quickly he backed up in case the zombies released a gas.

As he watched the corpse something that shocked him more than be transported happened. A blue screen appeared before him and a robotic voice rang out in his head.
