Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Gathering Darkness

David soared through the skies of New York, the thrusters of the Iron Man suit humming beneath him as he deftly navigated the night. The city below appeared small, almost fragile from his vantage point. He could feel the exhilaration of flight, the combined power of the Hulk's brute strength, Captain America's agility, and Tony Stark's advanced technology at his fingertips. For the first time since he had arrived in this world, David felt like he had truly seized control.

His mind buzzed with possibilities. He had absorbed the abilities of some of the MCU's greatest heroes, but he wasn't satisfied. Not yet. Each new power was like another tool in his ever-growing arsenal, but he needed more. The knowledge, the capabilities—he had barely scratched the surface. The question now was how to use this new power to its fullest potential.

David's gaze sharpened as he surveyed the skyline. The Avengers were still scattered, each of them dealing with their own personal challenges, their own battles. They weren't unified yet—not entirely. But that would change soon. He could feel it in the air, the tension, the inevitable coming conflict. He needed to prepare himself for what was to come.

And that meant understanding his limits—and the limits of the world he now inhabited.

His mind wandered back to his initial absorption of powers. The Hulk's rage was still there, simmering beneath the surface, a constant presence at the back of his mind. Every time he tapped into its strength, he could feel the beast stir, craving destruction. But David had learned to control it, for the most part. It wasn't perfect yet, but he was getting there. Captain America's steadiness, his moral compass, was a grounding force. The combination of the two gave David a delicate balance. It was dangerous, but in his mind, it was also liberating.

Iron Man's technology was the latest addition, and David was still marveling at its complexity. It wasn't just about flying or firing repulsor blasts. Stark's mind was a different breed of genius—a type of intellect that understood the intricate balance of science and warfare, invention and defense. With the tech now at his command, David felt like he could do anything.

But there was one thing missing—one thing that had been bothering him ever since he had arrived in this universe. His cheat. The ability to absorb powers was a formidable advantage, yes. But what if he could take more? What if he could tap into the very essence of the MCU, the very fabric of the universe itself?

David's thoughts were interrupted by a sharp buzzing sound. A signal. Something—someone—was reaching out to him. The voice was unmistakable.

"David, this is Tony Stark. You think you've got everything figured out, but you don't."

David's eyes narrowed, but he didn't break his focus on the city below. Stark's voice was full of authority and, surprisingly, a touch of concern. He had probably been trying to track him down ever since their last encounter.

"Don't bother, Stark," David replied, his voice calm but firm. "You've already lost."

There was a pause on the other end, followed by Stark's voice again, more serious this time. "You think this is about power? You're messing with things you don't understand. This isn't about who's strongest. It's about responsibility. You can't just take what you want. You're setting yourself up for a fall."

David's lips curled into a smirk. "I don't need your lectures, Stark. Responsibility? Please. I'm not here to save anyone. I'm here to win."

Another pause. This time, David could almost hear the frustration in Stark's voice. "You've absorbed more power than any one person should have. You can't keep it up forever. Sooner or later, it'll destroy you, or worse, it'll destroy everyone around you."

David's grip tightened on the suit's controls, the thrusters beneath him roaring to life. "That's your problem, Stark. You're afraid of power. I'm not."

Before Stark could respond, David cut the connection. He had no intention of playing games with Tony Stark or anyone else. The time for speeches was over.

The city of New York was his stage now, and David was preparing to make his grand entrance. He had absorbed some of the most powerful abilities in the universe, and now he would make sure everyone knew it. He would take what he wanted, and the world would bend to his will.

As he descended lower into the heart of the city, his enhanced senses picked up something. A disturbance. A subtle ripple of energy, much different from the mundane hum of the city's electrical grid. Something—someone—was using power, and it was close. Too close.

David shifted his trajectory, heading toward the source of the disturbance. As he approached, his sensors picked up multiple lifeforms, clustered together in a building below. His curiosity piqued, David lowered his altitude, circling around the structure like a hawk hunting its prey.

It was an unremarkable office building—no obvious signs of danger. But David could feel the tension inside. He landed silently on the rooftop, the Iron Man suit's thrusters barely making a sound. From this vantage point, he could see through the windows below, the dim lights inside casting eerie shadows on the floor.

Through the glass, David's eyes landed on a familiar face—Natasha Romanoff, better known as Black Widow. She was standing in the middle of the room, surrounded by several others. It looked like they were in some sort of meeting, discussing something in hushed tones. David didn't need to hear the conversation to know that something was off.

Black Widow wasn't alone. She was with several other people—heroes, by the looks of it. Their silhouettes were visible, but David's enhanced vision could make out their details. There was Clint Barton, the expert archer known as Hawkeye, and beside him, the unmistakable figure of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. The energy radiating from her was unlike anything David had felt before—a strange, chaotic power that seemed to bend reality itself.

David grinned. The Avengers had finally assembled, and he was right here, watching them. But he wasn't ready to make his move just yet. He wanted to learn more. He needed to understand the power of each of these heroes. After all, each one of them had something he could absorb—something he could use.

Wanda's presence was particularly intriguing. Her abilities were volatile, unpredictable, but immensely powerful. The Scarlet Witch had the ability to alter reality itself—an ability that could reshape the very rules of the universe. David's mind raced. If he could get close enough, if he could absorb that power…

He shook his head, pushing the thought aside for the moment. He had to be patient. The Avengers were still a threat, and he couldn't risk exposing himself just yet. But he would be watching. Always.

David's mind turned to strategy. The Hulk's power, Stark's tech, Cap's strength, and now the combined minds of the Avengers. They were scattered for the moment, but soon they would unify, and when they did, David needed to be ready. If he could get to Wanda, and then maybe someone like Thor or Doctor Strange, he would become a god among men—a being whose power surpassed even the greatest of heroes.

But as his mind danced with possibilities, a new thought crossed his mind—one that sent a shiver down his spine.

What if he didn't need to fight the Avengers?

What if, instead of absorbing their powers, he could manipulate them into joining him? After all, each of them had their own doubts, their own weaknesses. Maybe he didn't need to defeat them—he could simply control them.

His grin widened as he realized just how easy it would be to make them fall in line.

With the combined power of the Hulk, Captain America, Tony Stark's technology, and the immense potential of the Scarlet Witch, David knew that he was no longer just a player in this world. He was the king of it.

And the Avengers?

They would bow to him—whether they wanted to or not.

David turned away from the building and took off into the sky once more. The storm was brewing, and David was ready for whatever came next. The world would soon realize that it had a new ruler—and David would stop at nothing to claim the throne.
