Chapter 20 - Pursued by Darkness(part 2)

The boat shot through the tunnel, the darkness enveloping them like a shroud. The group held their breath, their hearts pounding in their chests.

"We need to move faster!" Sophia shouted, her voice echoing off the walls of the tunnel.

Arin grabbed an oar and began to row, his muscles straining with effort. Kurten joined in, his trader's strength surprising as he helped to propel the boat through the water.

Lyra stood at the bow of the boat, her eyes fixed on the tunnel ahead. "I see light!" she shouted. "We're almost through!"

Halven clung to the side of the boat, his eyes fixed on the water behind them. "It's gaining on us!" he shouted.

Sophia glanced back, her eyes narrowing as she saw the creature's massive body undulating through the water. "We need to go faster!" she shouted.

Arin and Kurten redoubled their efforts, their oars dipping into the water in perfect sync. The boat surged forward, shooting through the tunnel like a arrow.

As they emerged into the bright sunlight, the group blinked in surprise. They found themselves in a narrow, winding channel, the water crystal clear and calm.

But their relief was short-lived. The creature burst out of the tunnel behind them, its massive body sending waves crashing through the channel.

"We need to keep moving!" Sophia shouted. "We can't let it catch us!"

The group quickly scrambled to obey, their oars dipping into the water as they strove to outrun the creature. But as they looked back, they knew they were in grave danger. The creature was gaining on them, its jaws open wide in a snarling snout.

"We're not going to make it!" Halven shouted, his voice trembling with fear.

Sophia's face was set in a determined expression. "We will make it," she said. "We just need to keep going!"

But as the creature closed in, its hot breath washing over them, the group wondered if Sophia's determination would be enough to save them...

Just as the creature was about to snap its jaws shut around the boat, Lyra stood up and fired an arrow straight at the creature's eye. The arrow struck true, and the creature let out a deafening roar as it recoiled in pain.

The group took advantage of the distraction to row as fast as they could, their oars dipping into the water in perfect sync. Sophia steered the boat with expert precision, dodging rocks and shallow water with ease.

As they rounded a bend in the channel, the group saw a narrow opening in the rocks ahead. Sophia shouted, "That's our way out! Row for it!"

The group rowed with all their might, their muscles straining with effort. The creature was closing in fast, its jaws snapping wildly as it chased after them.

Just as they were about to reach the opening, the creature made a final lunge, its jaws snapping shut just inches from the boat. The group felt a jolt of fear as they realized how close they had come to being caught.

But Sophia's quick thinking and expert steering had saved them, and they shot through the opening just in time. As they emerged on the other side, they found themselves in a tranquil, secluded lake, surrounded by towering trees and lush greenery.

The group let out a collective sigh of relief as they realized they had finally escaped the creature. But as they looked back at the opening they had just come through, they saw the creature's massive body blocking the way, its eyes fixed on them with a malevolent glare.

"We may have escaped it for now," Sophia said, her voice low and serious. "But we're not safe yet. We need to find a way to get out of here, and fast."

As the group caught their breath and looked around the tranquil lake, Sophia's eyes narrowed in thought. "We can't stay here for long," she said. "We need to keep moving if we're going to find the Ruin City."

Kurten spoke up, his trader's instincts kicking in. "I think I can help with that," he said. "I've heard rumors of a hidden entrance to the Ruin City somewhere around this lake. If we can find it, we might be able to avoid any more... unpleasantness."

Lyra's eyes lit up with excitement. "I've heard those rumors too," she said. "I think I can help us find the entrance."

Arin nodded, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "Let's get moving, then," he said. "We don't have much time to waste."

Halven looked around nervously, his eyes fixed on the creature still blocking the entrance to the lake. "What about that thing?" he asked. "We can't just leave it behind."

Sophia's face was grim. "We'll have to deal with it later," she said. "Right now, our priority is finding the Ruin City. Let's move out!"

The group quickly gathered their belongings and set off around the lake, searching for any sign of the hidden entrance. As they walked, the trees seemed to grow closer together, casting deep shadows that made it difficult to see.

Lyra walked at the front of the group, her eyes scanning the ground for any sign of a hidden path. Suddenly, she stopped and pointed to a small, almost imperceptible crack in the rocks.

"I think I've found it," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

The group gathered around her, their eyes

Sophia's eyes lit up with excitement. "This could be it," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "This could be the entrance to the Ruin City."

Arin's face was set in a determined expression, his jaw clenched in anticipation. "Let's do it," he said. "Let's see what's on the other side."

Kurten's eyes were shining with curiosity, his trader's instincts on high alert. "I've heard rumors of the treasures that lie within the Ruin City," he said. "I can hardly wait to see if they're true."

Halven's face was pale, his eyes wide with fear. "What if it's trapped?" he asked. "What if we can't get out?"

Lyra's expression was reassuring, her eyes warm with encouragement. "We'll face whatever dangers lie within together," she said. "We're a team, remember?"

Sophia nodded, her face set in a resolute expression. "Lyra's right," she said. "We've come too far to turn back now. Let's do this."

With that, the group stepped through the crack in the rocks, leaving the bright sunlight behind. They found themselves in a narrow, dimly lit tunnel, the air thick with the scent of age and decay.

As they made their way deeper into the tunnel, the group couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. The silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the sound of their own footsteps echoing off the walls.

Suddenly, Lyra stopped, her head cocked to one side. "Do you hear that?" she whispered.

The group listened intently, and soon they too could hear the sound of rushing water, growing louder with every step.
