He didn't hesitate.
He kicked his horse hard and galloped down the jetty at full speed.
Lili looked up when she heard the sound of hooves on the old timber and saw the handsome dark blonde guard pelting down the pier towards her. She kicked her horse to flee, but they were in the lake and hampered by the water.
Before she could get any useful distance away from him, the man had hit the end of the jetty where he pulled his horse up on a dime and propelled himself off its back across the water, dagger outstretched.
He gripped her around the waist as he leapt at her, and they both fell into the water together, him on top of her.
He pulled her up, holding her tight against him, his dagger hovering near her throat.
