Viridian City was a beautiful, verdant area surrounded by lush greenery year-round. As the closest city to Pallet Town, it was well-known for its scenic beauty and proximity to nature.
Viridian City was unique in its harmonious blend of advanced technology and environmental preservation. The air was fresh, the streets were clean, and the city exuded an aura of tranquility.
"When I walked into Viridian City, my Pokédex started ringing. I thought it was a wild Pokémon encounter, but it's just a city introduction?"
Satoshi took out his Pokédex to see a detailed description of Viridian City.
"This thing even acts as a tour guide… Well, at least the GPS is useful. If I ever get lost, I'll know where I am," Satoshi muttered as he put the Pokédex away.
He recalled Froakie and Charmander into their Poké Balls and stepped into the bustling city.
Being close to Pallet Town, many players had already made their way to Viridian City. As Satoshi had suspected, the wild areas were instanced, separating players into their own zones. However, in public areas like Viridian City, players from the same server could interact freely.
The streets were full of activity.
"Wow! This city is gorgeous!"
"I've never seen anything like this in real life. It's amazing how the forest surrounds the entire city!"
"Even the air feels fresh. The realism of this game is insane."
New players marveled at the beauty of Viridian City, awestruck by the immersive virtual reality experience.
Meanwhile, novice players were busy seeking advice:
"Can someone help me level up? My Pokémon fainted so many times in the forest!"
"Where should I go to find beginner quests? Someone, please help!"
Others took the opportunity to show off their Pokémon:
The petite and adorable Oddish
The majestic and proud Growlithe
The round and playful Poliwag
The elegant and haughty Vulpix
Of course, not everyone was so lucky.
"What the heck is this little mouse-looking Rattata? It only has intermediate potential!"
"You think that's bad? My starter was a stinky Grimer—also intermediate potential!"
"Check out my Magikarp. Primary potential. Is there even hope for this guy?"
Satoshi chuckled at the frustrated players. "Raising a Magikarp with primary potential to level 20? Good luck with that."
He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride.
With a Charmander and a Froakie, both with incredible potential, he was far ahead of the average player. Releasing them now would instantly reveal his identity as Chenxi, the player dominating both the Level Leaderboard and the Potential Leaderboard.
However, Satoshi decided to keep a low profile.
"I'll show off once I've widened the gap between me and the others," he thought.
First, Satoshi stopped at the Friendly Store to buy Pokémon food. Then, he headed to the Pokémon Center—not to heal his team, but to transfer the extra Pokémon he'd caught to Professor Oak's lab.
These Pokémon weren't part of his main team; he'd only caught them to fill his Pokédex.
"I'll catch stronger Pokémon later. For now, the ones I've caught will stay at the lab," he thought.
After finishing his errands, Satoshi made his way to a river near the northern part of Viridian City.
"If I remember correctly, this is where Cynthia likes to fish."
Cynthia was an important character in Pokémon Generations—a Pokédex owner who played a key role in advancing the game's plot. Satoshi had learned about her location from his past life, where players shared detailed guides on hidden missions and important NPCs.
Sure enough, Cynthia was there, sitting cross-legged by the river with a fishing rod in her hands. She appeared focused, occasionally jotting something down in a notebook.
Suddenly, her fishing rod bent sharply, and the line went taut.
"Got something!" Cynthia exclaimed, pulling on the rod with all her might.
A dark shape thrashed in the water, fighting against her efforts. Whatever it was, it was far stronger than Stephanie, and the force of its struggle began to drag her toward the riverbank.
Cynthia dug her heels into the ground, but it wasn't enough.
"I can't let go… This fishing rod is a gift from my uncle," Stephanie muttered, her hands red from gripping the rod.
Satoshi, who had been watching from a distance, sprang into action.
"Charmander! Froakie! Let's go!"
He released his Pokémon and rushed to Stephanie's side.
As Cynthia lost her footing, Satoshi caught her and pulled her away from the water. Her hands instinctively let go of the rod, which Charmander quickly grabbed with its claws.
With a mighty swing, Charmander yanked the line, pulling a Goldeen out of the river.
The Goldeen wasn't done fighting, though. It opened its mouth and fired a Water Gun toward Stephanie.
"Froakie, intercept it with [Ice Beam]!"
"Quack!"
Froakie leaped into action, unleashing a beam of icy energy. The Water Gun froze mid-air, and the Goldeen itself was encased in ice.
"Huh? It's frozen?" Satoshi grinned. "Then I won't waste this opportunity."
He pulled out a Poké Ball and threw it at the immobilized Goldeen.
The ball wobbled once, twice, three times—then clicked shut.
"Got it!"
Satoshi turned to Cynthia, still holding the Poké Ball.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asked with a kind smile.
