Lirae, however, looked at Kai with a hint of approval. "Not bad, rookie," she said, smirking. "But don't let it go to your head."
Eldrin placed a reassuring hand on Kai's shoulder. "You've taken the first step. But there is much more to learn."
The queen addressed the court. "Kai has proven himself worthy of the hero's mantle. We must now prepare for the journey ahead. The Tear of Elara is our only hope to break the curse."
A ripple of unease passed through the room. "The Tear of Elara?" one noblewoman said. "But it's hidden in the Darklands. No one who ventures there ever returns."
"Then we must succeed where others have failed," the queen replied firmly. "Time is running out."
