Chapter 33 - Chapter 32

Lauretta avoided Marcus like a plague making sure to stay away and out of his reach, when she wasn't working with the others to tend the sick, she wasn't hiding in her room reading a book on portions and practicing her skills , preparing for the attack, she knew was to come.

She could have easily fled , even though patrol on the boarder was tight but she decided to stay and fight, she promised herself to take as many of those rogue wolves with her as possible. She was so incredibly busy that she barely even had time to think about Marcus, which was good because she feared she would go crawling back to him.

Thankfully her bullies have been quiet probably because everyone was holding their breath fearing the worst the fall of their pack , but no one had even had the time to spare her a glance.

The pack was as busy as ever and food ration was greatly reduced but at-least everyone was well fed. The military were always training the clinic was not as busy the perks of working in healthcare when you are in werewolf territory it was only during war situations that the hospital becomes busy.

Lauretta allowed her whole being go blank where anything pertaining to Marcus concerned . The thought of seeing him made her incredibly angry and embarrassed at the way he had humiliated her, treated her like a whore even though she deserved every moment of it.

Marcus on his own didn't know how to approach her.he was worried it was too soon and watched her do everything to ignore him. He knew if he really wanted to he could command her to come to him and she wouldn't have a choice but somehow that didn't quite feel right.

He threw himself into work, tallying the pack account and allocating resources for the covert mission they were working on, meanwhile the guard kept reporting every thing Luna did to him.

Where she went who she saw and it was always the same. he was working in his desk when the guard in charge of watching Lauretta sent him a mind link that she was sneaking out of the territory.

He instructed him to keep following her and report anything unusual. Luna knew that sneaking out of the wolf ground was already suspicious enough but she had to do it.

She knew if she was caught , she would automatically be branded a spy and traitor, even Marcus no longer trusted her but it was something that has to be done. For the is mission she had packed her hair severally in a bun and secured it with clips.

Then she had worn a black trouser and hoodie to help her slip in an out of the pack unnoticed and to disguise her scent she had used natural flowers and plants planted all over the pack.

She waited until it was a bit dark and the guards grew careless to slip out , though she helped them a lot faster by sprinkling valerian roots enough to make them drowsy but not enough to knock them out.

Once again the guard urgently mind linked Marcus and told him that Lauretta had sedated his guard and slipped out. Marcus was antsy, he was heartbroken he didn't want to believe she was actually a traitor.

It broke his heart to think that the woman he had come to care for was our to destroy him, he didn't want the guard to see anymore so he told him to go back to the pack house, he would handle the rest of the duty from here.

He changed into his wolf form and ran to the direction he was told Lauretta was, his wolf howled in sorrow and he attempted to silence it. This was all his fault maybe if he had not been so hard on her, she wouldn't have felt the need to become an enemy to his pack.

He was surprised to see Lauretta humming and gathering herbs with expert precision dancing, she didn't seem to be waiting to meet anyone , he thought it might be a ploy and stayed where he was.

Then he began suspecting that he had come to meet a man and he felt himself become insanely jealous, he had to physically fight the urge to approach her and shake her for getting over him so quickly.

As hours passed he began to relax and nearly chucked when she collapsed unceremoniously onto the grass to take a much needed break, then began finding her way back to the pack , he silently followed her wondering what she was gathering all that herb for but he dismissed it, maybe she needed it in the clinic.

Luna whistled and twirled as she went along, feeling freer and happier than she had been for days, since that incident and the death of her pack, this reminded her of happier times when she had freedom and always go out to the field to gather herbs. She was insanely thankful for that particular skill.

Marcus followed her until she had successfully slipped back into the pack and then her room before he called a meeting with his beta. Luna's antics made him realize that his guards could easily have been knocked out with a sedative, if a little girl could do it then why would the rogues that had no loyalty not do something worse.

When Beta Theo came he ordered that protective Masks be given to everyone in the pack and the new rule was that they all had to wear it everyday. When Theo tried to ask the Alpha why , Marcus blatantly asked him to mind his business, he wanted to try and protect Lauretta until she gave him a reason not to , but he knew he had to ask her some pertinent questions and soon , he wanted answers.

After the awful confrontation they had, Luna had taking to spending most of her time in the library pouring over books, especially ancient texts she was sure nobody had read for centuries, Infact everyone seemed to have forgotten that such a structure existed.

Everything was covered in dust , There was a male librarian that seemed as ancient as the place, he had dutifully ignored her greeting, Luna decided that he might have gone deaf with age.

She had used to library as an excuse to get away from her new nemesis Marcus . She has browsed through the volume, looking for anything that could be of help to the pack in this upcoming war when she had stumbled upon a book that sent shivers down her spine without thinking she hid it in her dress.

Then she stayed for a heartbeat or two before excusing herself trying to act as normal as possible, so as not to arouse the suspicion of the librarian. He barely spared her a glance.

Once she was out the door she ran all the way to her room, turned off all the light and turned on a candle, she didn't want anyone to know she was awake and come looking for her.she needed privacy to be able to concentrate and read the book.

The room was dim, lit only by the flickering glow of a single candle. Luna sat cross legged on the cold stone floor, her delicate fingers trailing over the tattered, leather-bound book that looked as if it would fall apart at any moment that she had stolen from the pack archives. The title, The Forbidden Herbarium, glimmered faintly in gold, its letters etched with warnings she chose to ignore.

It was either she died bravely or died a coward and she chose the latter option there was no way she was going down without fighting hard. She didn't want to be remembered as a coward that hid.
